Seagloom, you surprised me with your reply to my topic on Jade Empire...it was a gem. After reading your post, and the others too of course, to be fair...I got the game and was happy. You gave the best reply though, and helped me make up my mind.

I vaguely remember that thread. Glad you enjoyed the game then. :) The way I ramble at times I wonder if anyone takes me seriously. :pinched:

I rather like the way you ramble Posted Image

JE was outstanding because it wasn't "Space Marines" or "Wizards and Knights". Anything with a different setting can be great. The story was good - and example of how "linear" isn't always bad. Combat wasn't perfect but it was fun, intuitive and unique. I'm replaying it right now and it hold up very, very well.

mmm more jade empire discussion.

i will take this opportunity to share how i think the necropolis is the single best area in all of JE. Why? Not because of all the repetitive fights with ghosts (that i actually find boring after 3 fights in a row)

I love the necropolis, the level design, the art style, the music/sound, the quests and npcs, - all of this creates one of the best atmospheres in all of JE. The necropolis succeeds in creating a really spooky atmosphere and i love it.

Jade Empire was great, but not very memorable in my opinion. Wouldn't mind to see Jade Empire II, but let them finish Mass Effect 3 good first Posted Image

They don't own the rights to Baldurs Gate and if it does get made, it will probably get the consolized Xcom/Bioshock treatment.

I would like to see JE2 made a little more mature. This doesn't mean darker colors!!!! <-----

I really liked the fox spirits, but i disliked the toad and horse demons. Conceptually they are very cool, but artistically they look a little more childish than i'd like for a bioware game. in general, Jade Empire's art style and design does feel like it is a game made for a younger audience than ME, which is contradicted by some very evil choices you make in the story.

I thought the Necropolis was a great area too. I liked how there were several quests tied to it. The gravedigger was a funny little weirdo too. Then interacting with all those ghosts and meeting that lunatic on the bounty hunting mission...

My favorite area depends on what the parameters here are. If we're talking a single map then I'd agree with the Necropolis based on content depth and design. If I can use multiple maps that are part of a major quest then I'm fond of the Great Southern Forest. That whole quest line is one of my favorite in any BioWare game. The first encounter with the Fox Spirit, meeting Bladed Thesis in Red Minister form, and later Zin Bu. The surreal beauty of the Fox Spirit's heavenly domain right down to the soothing music...

It was also where both Henpecked Hou and the Blackwhirlwind join up.

Then there were the cannibals and their "mother". The escape scene with the player, Whirlwind, and Hou escaping a collapsing cavern was one the sweetest cinematics in that entire game.

I completely agree. A mature game doesn't always mean gloomy, disheartening, scary, or just all around dark. Some actual color really helps. The environments in JE were pretty neat.

I enjoyed Jade Empire, but I could never manage to play it a second time. Admittedly, I only really tried right after the first time I played it.

Anyway, give it non-crappy combat (the combat in JE1 was boring and repetitive...I'd be all for turn-based combat X-Com or Jagged Alliance style) and a real party, and I'd happily play JE2.

I have to say The Great Southern Forest is my favorite with the Dam Site in close second for atmosphere.

Just finished playing through it again after all this talk of a Jade Empire 2 we will never see.

As I played DA:O and was in the Brecillian Forest I though how nice The Great Southern Forest in JE would have looked with the updated graphics, but after playing JE again and refreshing my memory I would say the graphics in that 5 year old game are easily on par with Dragon Age which is 6 months old.

Jade Empire was one of my favourite games, don't think I have played through any game to the end so many times. Would definitely like to see Jade Empire 2!

There are a wealth of Bolo Yeung and Mr Miyagi moments waiting to be tapped for Closed Fist and Open Palm interrupts, respectively.

this needs a bump badly ....

Jade Empire is easily on the same quality level when it comes to storytelling and atmosphere, a tiny bit better imo.

For unknown reasons BW doesnt want (or maybe cant) continue the awesome story and world of JE. Well fair enough...but hey that wont keep from wishing it ...nag nag

Unfortunately, this thread is well into thread necromancy territory now. As a fellow fan of all things Jade Empire, I'd love a sequel too, but the topic has run its course. As well, Jade Empire has its own dedicated forums here now.
