but as with any game its not perfect... there are quite a few things that annoyed/irritated me about the gameplay in mass effect 2.
1. the teammates: ok how many of us have been in a situation where harbinger is just the other side of your fence and all you can do is cry and look at your teammates corpses....the teammates need a drastic boost.
how would i solve the issue?: well firstly id start with damages, teammates currently do alot less damage than shepard (legion with a widow does 43% less damage than shepard with a widow) id make them the same. secondly id have all characters (enemies included) have health, armour and shields as standard (with exceptions) and obviously it would all need to be balanced out but im not going into detail with it. and finally id have all team members have 6 powers.
2. powers/power wheels: take jack for instance... if an enemy has any sort of defences she is made practically redundant, as biotics only (according to some sources and i have noticed the difference) deal damage when the enemy has no defences left. if you've taken their defences down with guns you may as well finish them with guns
how would i solve the issue?: well id make all biotics able to deal damage and effects to enemies e.g pull would be able to pick up an enemy regardless of their defences and it would weaken shields, armour, barriers ect.
as for the power wheels they are ok but id like to see the ammo power moved to the weapons wheel and cycle through your different ammo types, id also like for the wheels to toggle on and off to allow for an extra layer of tactical play.
3. weapon selection and teammate armours: one of my favorite things about mass effect 1 was the vast array of weapons you could get as well as new armour and the ablilty to equip teammates right down to thier implants. but in mass effect 2 bioware ripped it out completely and left us with the grand total of 3 assault rifles to choose from and teammate armours were reduced to just having the choice of 2 colours one of which had to be unlocked?! they really didnt need to rip it out.
how would i solve the issue?: well id bring back the old ME1 inventory system but id make it more streamlined and cut out the tedious deleting of old inventory. and id give the player the ability to change teammate armours and colours at will just like shepards armour. but id go a bit further than that, but thats a discussion for another day.
4. cover system. in mass effect 2 the cover system was much improved but it had irritating flaws such as you werent able to go round corners and there were many instances where id accidentally exit cover and get my ass owned instead of just moving around abit. also having to duck behind cover before you could vault it was a pain especially when running away from harbinger.
how would i solve the issue?: well id just add these abilities and make it so that you have to press and hold A (xbox 360) to enter and exit cover this would stop you from exiting cover when you didnt want to.
there are a few other issues that get me worked up but these are the main ones. if you have evidence to dispel any of my statements then provide me with solid evidence and ill accept i was wrong with good grace.
