Seriously though, the difficulty gap between easy and normal is large. Easy is way too easy and normal a bit on the hard side for a default. They do need tweaking.

Try it for yourselfs. You can adjust the difficulty up or down at any time you can get at the options menu. There was one review (I forget which) that mentioned this and they were right.

Normal was a breeze, I started a second playthrough on hard and havn't run into any real problems yet (if anything it's easier than my normal was, now that I know what I'm doing) Stop complaing and blaming other people because you fail.

Then i made my character an arcane warrior, through on some blood armor and just destroyed everything.

not to side track the thread, but I am trying to figure out how to play an arcane warrior

what gear did you equip and what was your general play style?

The saddest thing is with all the complaining it just means future sequels are going to be majorly dumbed down so the people who've only played mass effect can steamroll the game on the hardest difficutlys.

Sure most gamers stink at games (people think Demon's Soul(PS3) is impossible) , but i'm sure Developers will keep HARD game difficulties in games for people who like a game to actually be challenging. So i'm sure Dragon Age 2 will have the same fun difficulty.

Then it needs a "Very Easy" so they can smooth the scaling to Normal. Normal is, well, really disgustingly easy. How you manage to fail at Normal I don't know, I think I'd have to try. I could pretty much AFK the game and still win most battles on Normal.

I actually agree to a certain extent. I find that it helps to explore each party members abilities and use them for crowd control. I must admit though, I had to dumb the game down to casual for some parts. It's not that I found the sequences impossible, so to speak, just a bit tedious when I'm doing them 20 times over. I also find that casual is way too easy. An incredibly hard sequence on Normal can be done without even pausing the combat on casual, leaving no sense of satisfaction when beating it.

All in all though, this is a fantastic game. The minor annoyances I have with it are easy to get over. I also find comfort in the fact that I suck and somewhere out there, theres someone who's complaining it's too easy.

I started the game on hard and I'm not getting the same complaints that I hear from many of these people. Sure, I have to start over sometimes and those times are usually when my main character dies (and I can't have that!), but that's what I like about the battles in Dragon Age, you can't leave your characters alone and expect to win every single time. If you really want an easy experience that badly, just set to easy and get it over with. I, on the other hand, prefer the satisfaction of earning my battles.

i wonder what the people saying hard is still easy are doing, because i know the high dragon and flemeths fight kicked my ass on hard, i also reloaded it on the impossible mode and got one shot

What system are you playing on?

For the 360 Normal is the PC Easy, wheras Hard is the PC Normal, Nightmare I believe is our Hard.

I try not to insult those who are having issues, as often, its just their settings are to high, or they are trying to bring party members due to them being cool, rather then bringing them because they need them, and instead try to offer help, telling people to "L2P" nub only means Bioware will turn the Sequels into cakewalks, actually teaching people how to get through the games current settings means more people will be supportive of them when the topic comes up.

It is worth noting that many of those posting here have bonus equipment like Blood Dragon Armor, and Memory Ring. Need I even mention how much easier those two bonuses alone make the game?

If you truly want to get a feel for the difficulty ratings, play the game through with your DLC disabled.

That means no Blood Dragon Armor, that means no Memory Ring, no "Extra Equipment" from the start of the game.

Take such things out of the equation, because they effect the difficulty of a game as much as the rating itself.

I have played on hard since the beginning and am having a great time. Unlike so many games released these days, DA:O seems to be designed with difficult encounters in mind. Walking through mindless encounter after mindless encounter is neither engaging nor fun for me.

I guess I am in the opposite camp I LOVE the difficulty it really does remind me of the old infinity engine games where you really had to think about your strategy in order to win.  I look forward to each fight some of them are surprisingly and delightfully challenging.

Well actually I tried to go into the flemeth fight at level 10(playing on hard) and of course I failed a million times. Its a good thing I can come back when I have more level's under my parties belt. :wizard:

Everyone has access to the Blood Dragon armor and the other bonus items are pretty much a non issue, so I don't see that your argument has much merit.

Yet another constructive RANT about the only 2 things ever mentioned on this ****ing forum.

1) This game is too hard wahhh. Really? I find it way too easy after a single playthrough. Maybe try putting it on easy?

2) This game isn't the spiritual succesor to Baldurs Gate I dont think.

Yep, only 2 things ever discussed in this place.

I can understand the feeling expressed here I had some serious issues in redcliff until I found out that I missed a couple of things in dialouge and exploration that would have made the fight a lot easier. That having been said the difficulty for most fights is fine in normal but there do seem to be occasions where fights are far more difficult than they should be.

There are plenty of people that bought the DDE and are still complaining about difficulty. And the DLC/promo items aren't even that good.

Playing on nightmare myself I find it sort of comical that they felt that they had to 4 day patch easy to make it easier.

I am in a tough spot finally but thats just circumstance. A templar instant casting the anti-magic stun when your main is a mage and the cut scene puts him right in front of 4 enemies and a demon isn't exactly an issue with my play style ;)

I'll get it I hope without dumbing down the difficulty.

I have seen this when watching a friend play, he has little experience with more tactical RPGs and he really had a hard time getting his head around the combat.

He barely paused, he never used anything other then a brute force style of attack and really didn't get the whole "some enemies are weaker against >insert element<". Yeah, there is a learning curve, and I think some people need to see that. I think some were looking for a Diablo II where they could just click and kill and get loot.

I am liking the challenge but I don't find it harder then it should be. If anything I am only annoyed that the game doesn't autosave more often, I get so into it I forget to save before going through every door :P

And if anyone cares to contradict, I don't care if YOU find this game easier with your uber combinations and/or cheats. I know what I'm doing I have a good team with good armor using all of them as best as I can. I'm not the only one with this problem, even people playing on easy, after the patch, claim the game still has too many impossible fights.

Just because someone finds this game easy they have 'uber combinations and/or cheats?'  I'm playing on hard, and while I find that the battles are difficult, they are by no means 'impossible.'  That being the case, normal shouldn't be as hard as hard setting.  Does that mean I use some 'uber combination and/or cheat' because I don't find the game impossible?  I just jumped into the game and started playing.. I don't claim to be anything special or some great player.  Apparently you either don't know what you're doing, don't have a good team, or don't have good armor because the game is by no means impossible on the normal setting.  Perhaps you just need to slow down and learn some strategy.

On normal, I've run into numerous fights where I was torn into bite-sized monster chow.

These are approximates, but I've been able to beat 90% of them by either A) using slightly better tactics (kill the mage first) or B) paying more attention (maybe I should USE the friggin' poultices I'm carrying) the other 10% has required real finesse/fuss (expendables such as traps/poisons/balms) and very rarely needing a major tactical shift like a change in party lineup, level or gear up and come back).

This feels like what normal -should be-. Apologies to anyone that expected an easy time saving the world -lol-.

I consider it pretty forgiving. Revenants kick my ass, hands down, so if I see one I pull out all the stops, likewise full-sized dragons. Ogres get my full attention, but not my full adrenaline. Everyone else gets wary caution.

I can't wait to try again on hard for the next playthrough. When I choose 'Hard' I expect to fail a lot, which makes my victory all the sweeter.

But what can I say, I'm old school. Bring the pain.
