I've got a 40g fat system with plenty of space left on the hard drive.
Before yesterday, it'd been a while (two months?) since I'd played DA:O, as I'd lent it to a friend. I had played DA:A as recently as three weeks ago. Prior to 3.30, I had almost no problems with either game (some weird glitch where pausing and the radial menu got out of sync and that huge annoyance with lost DLC equipment going into DA:A, but no crashing).
I installed 3.30 4 days ago and played a little bit of Sacred 2 with no problems. Otherwise I hadn't done anything on the console.
Yesterday, I got DA:O back, made a new character, and got to work. My mage got all the way through creation, the Harrowing, the suppply closet, and lots of running around talking to people, and ino the basement without any problems. So that's maybe an hour of play? Then the game froze (except for the music). I've restarted the game three times and not managed to play for more than 5 minutes without a freeze.
I have not tried any characters other than the new mage.
I contacted Sony support, told them that I was having trouble with Dragaon Age: Origins since 3.30, had read that others were having similar problems, and was wondering what they new about it. Their response was "We're sorry you're having trouble. Is this a disc-based or downloaded game? If it's downloaded, you could try deleting and reinstalling it." I mustered some patience, replied that it's a disc-based game, and pasted a link to this forum. Their next reply was a link to their troubleshooting page.
I'm unimpressed by their helpfulness. On the other hand, I was thrilled to see someone from Bioware on this thread, acknowledging the problem and asking players for input as they try to fix it. Thanks, Bioware!

The Firmware 3.30 update needs to be fixed!
Can someone from Bioware at least give us an update and let us know they are aware of this problem????

That would at least let us know our complaints and reports are being heard. Its all this silence that is bothersome.

One of the challenges in tracking down 3.3 so far is that we have only been able to reproduce this on retail (home version) of PS3s - like all of you - and unfortunately that means we don't get a lot of the additional data that comes with reproducing problems on a dev kit, to help us solve an issue quickly.
In the meantime, we have to do this a little old school, and keep narrowing cases down. So I have a few more questions to help us further, or help eliminate some other edge cases. Also, I've noted that some of you have already responded to these, but i'm trying to get a sense of whether they are common or not, so every post does help.
- There may be relation to save games / saving which we're reviewing. On the PS3, DA has a system that allows you to continue playing while you are saving (note that the save icon is still going). If you wait/stop until the icon has disappeared completely, do you still experience crashes? Or are these only happening if you continue to do things while saving (moving, talking, combat, opening GUIs like inventory, etc)?
- We don't think it is related at this time, but just want to get a reality check on whether hard drive space available is a factor. Could you provide a rough estimate of free space if you're getting crashes? Also, an indication of how many DA save game slots you have on the profile you're playing with?
- Another line we're looking at is whether this is largely affecting data that existed pre-3.3. For those that added DAO only after 3.3, have you experienced crashes?
- Audio still playing seems to be a common item, and it is actually a very good lead if solid. Are you experiencing crashes where not even audio is playing? Or predominantly it is everything is unresponsive but audio continues? Does audio stop a few minutes after the crash, or keep going?
- Lastly, DA is a title that requires you to install the game to the hard drive. If you are experiencing issues on OTHER games after 3.3, are these games also installed to the hdd? Did the game require this, or did you manually choose to install it?
Thank you again.
Also, for those just jumping into the thread - if you'd like to see a recap of all posts we've made so far on a thread, you can do so by clicking on the BioWare icon under each thread.

Thanks for all the details so far - this is really helping us zero in on potential areas that were knocked by 3.3.

Sony told me to use the Rebuild Database feature in the PS3 Recovery menu which basically defrag the HDD and fixed Curropted files. It seemed to work for a bit or i got really lucky cause it took 3 hrs for it to crash. Which has been the best playtime i've gotten since this nightmare started.
I still have roughly 85GBs left of the 120gb HDD Left. I still think Framerate maybe a factor in it crashing. As i was playing for 3 hrs it seemed like it wanted to crash/lock up but kept going. I have Oblivion installed and that seem to work fine on the PS3 HDD last night when i was messing with my Paladin.

Prior to playing again a few days before 3.30 i had erased all my old saves and started a new one, which was a rouge. Didnt have any issues with it until 3.30 was released. After that i was freezing every 30 mins or so. All of the freezes were from either trying to collect items from dead bodies, moving the camera to "fast" while moving, and ever running right after a battle just ended. Dont recall ever freezing while a save was in progress.
I since have made a new Human noble rogue (after 3.30) and just got past Lothering. I havn't had a freeze yet and im hoping it stays that way.
Just want to mention too that i was doing the first part of Awakenings with each class (warrior, rouge, mage) to just play around a little and never once had a freeze there either.
As far as the HDD i have like over 200gb available so dont think space is the issue.
DAO and DAOA are both on retail discs if that helps at all. Again i do have all the DLC except for the Feastday items.
OFF Topic so to speak.... i just bought Super Street Fighter IV and installed it on my PS3. I've played a little so far and have had no issues. I'll def let you guys know if somethign does happen. Just mentioning this since i've seen on the main PS3 forums about ppl saying how Modern Warfare 2 is freezing and things and even saw a few ppl say Little Big Planet is having issues since 3.30.

- Had it freeze when the auto save just came up as well as when it wasn't auto saving. I've also had it freeze when rotating the camera and/or accessing the radial menu.
- I have a fat 250GB with 170GB space available so space isn't an issue here.
- All my saves were pre-3.30. I have managed to save after the update though (when given the chance).
- Music still plays during all crashes.
- I have Civilization Revolution installed on the HD and have played that for hours on end without any crashes. Mind you after the 3.30 update I haven't been connected to the net either so I don't know if that's affecting anything. Regardless Civ never crashed prior to this and still hasn't.

*I seemed to experience this constant crashing when my inventory was full and trying to loot something or enter combat (in the lower ruins, if it matters). Once I cleared a few spots of inventory - the game seemed to play fine again. Crashes caused involved audio to play in a loop.
