step1: delete Dragon age from game data utility

step2: go to system setting and restore default settings

step3: turn off and on your ps3

step4: install Dragon age origin

step5: redownload dlc's if you have and install

step6: play and enjoy

Well, I'm gonna try that as soon as I put the kid to bed.  It's killing me to delete my 3 characters, but I suppose this is a good lesson in Dealing With Things That Annoy Me.  

Not only did it work, I only lost my latest character!  My stoic battle maiden and randy elf are still around!  YESSS!

I didn't restore or delete anything and it doesn't freeze for me at all...

Maybe it's because I waited to download the 3.30 until the patch was out? Probably not, just saying.

Hey to everyone again i'm just visiting the forum and to inform everyone that since the recent update i started a new game and nearly at the end in my play through i had no crash but some minor slow down. so all i can say is i'm glad it work for me and i cant wait for the next episode of dragon age origin [to Bioware welldone! and you guys better make a sequel on this game or i wont buy it] definetly the best rpg of 2009 and 2010

keep in mind a am a pure Luddite and im just observing and reporting, hopefully a more computer savvy person can use this.-

OK so so far i bought the ps3 and dragon age a week ago. played DA origins for like 2 days straight no problems. i even pressed pause and talked to my girlfriend for like an hour then she came over and she made a character and played up to the grey warden ritual. next day i get the update. i freeze every 2 hrs. im lucky becasue 2 days later the patch to fix this comes. then not so lucky becasue 5 hrs in i freeze fighting the zombie hoard at redcliff village. i play it 4 more times and freeze every time during the zombie fight- yes that's a freeze 5 mins into gaming. (cant save during battles )i hear a few solutions, next day i erase all characters i have created except for mine and my girlfriends. load up my game and no freeze. i played a good solid 3hrs and nothing happened except for losing audio dialog for one sentence ( i was pushing skip a lot though- but when i stopped pushing skip no problems) and i notice the slight 3 second lag- sometimes, not all the times. so i am going to play again soon and try for a longer haul in the mean time consider erasing extra saves and Save often my friends.

So far I'm still good, and played all day yesterday and today, both DA:O and Awakenings. Has anyone still having problems tried reinstalling the firmware "properly", ie. with no disk in the PS3. You have to do this manually with the USB drive via PC method but it seems to me that part of the problem is that Sony doesn't tell you to eject your disk before updating even though EVERY tech support person will tell you this is "necessary".

i can get a couple hours in at it still freezes yes i do have the fat 40gb so im wondering is it a problem for the older systems vs the new slim systems i tried enkto's method which seemed to work but after a couple of hours it still froze. its just seems like some are still having problems vs others thats its worked for and wondering if the system type was the cause? also if anyone else has any possible solutions id greatly appreciate it. thanks for your input.

I have a fat 40gig as well and i was wondering the same thing. I eamiled customer support and they told me to delete my saves because they may be corrupt. Ya well i did that already, about 5 different times between restores and stuff. Then i asked them if  the fact i have a 40gig had anything to do with it. No response yet. I got a feeling that that may be our issue. Anyone else have a 40gig fat model that works pefectly/doesnt work since the patch?

If that is the case and they dont patch it sometime then its time to return DAO back to gamestop.

Ok I just put in my Awakining disc  for the first time sence the patch and now I cant get past the 'checking saved data' message when I first press start. Has this happened to anyone else? This is so lame.

i want a refund cos theyve messed around with this for too long. ive bought all the addons including awakening and darkspawn chronicles. The patch has been delayed for too long.

Then go claim your refund! The patch is out, and it works fine! I had one freeze in Darkspawn Chronicles, other then that everything works just fine. And just so you know, Heavy Rain froze on me the other day, and this is a Sony game. The whole mess started with Sony's firmware update, and I believe a lot of issues will be solved once Sony comes out with another update. Then again they may even screw more things up.

Heavy Rain, while I absolutely LOVE that game in every way, a truly unique gaming experience, has had random freeze-up bugs since it launched. That had nothing to do with firmware.



I just started playing Awakening last night. Played for about 3 hours, and didn't freeze. Though Awakening does have a slew of bugs in it's own right that Origins doesn't have like massive slowdown, especially when casting spells with my Arcane Warrior that results in missing animation frames, and gameplay sound cuting out. The only sound that ever cut out for me in Origins was NPC dialogue and only once in a while, it happens durring gameplay and often in Awakening. Also durring the cutscene after clearing the peak, my PC's character model got stuck with her arms sticking out like a barbie doll permanently. I had to reboot the game to get rid of that.

I just played DAO. I got through the whole dalish elf part, zevran encounter and just starting da fade in the magi tower. No freezes. It may be because i have one of the latest models of ps3. I really dont know. I will try some dlc later like RTO to see if there are any freezes. I decided that if i can get through a whole play thru with no freezes den i will assume my game is completely fixed, untill den i will remain hopeful as so far it has been quite promising. Soz bout u guys still havin probs tho.

I will let u know how far i get without freezes or if i freeze.

Unfortunately I am still experiencing crashes even with this new patch. I even got a crash while loading a new area.

no crashes since the patch, but a higher incidence of blank treasure drops FWIW

i love dragon age, it a great game but with all this going on now i did everything i could from trying enktos suggestion to reformatting losing alot of progress in other games.   truth is im not gonna buy the slim system because of one game thats rediculous.  so i guess im gonna either wait for a patch  or let it collect dust.  im just really disappointed is all maybe ill get it for pc or just say screw it and let it go all together.  so once again if anyone has any suggestions let me know if not ah well.

Not to be the bringer of bad news...it's probably because the game works for a lot of us now. I played Awakening for 3 hours straight without a hitch. I swear that when getting new codex entries, it loads a lot faster too. Frame skips are minimal as well...but maybe it's because I turned off auto game saves...

Thank you Bioware. So far so good. :3

So i have played about 5 hours no crashes, well i was crashing for a little while. I dont know if its just luck, but i can tell you after my last crash, i powered down my system, flipped the switch in the back to off, pulled out the power/video cable in the back, put them back in and booted up again. Not a freeze since, I dunno if this did anything but so far, i believe it did. All this crashing and it was a simple as that for me? We'll see.
