Thanks for all the details so far - this is really helping us zero in on potential areas that were knocked by 3.3.
One of the challenges in tracking down 3.3 so far is that we have only been able to reproduce this on retail (home version) of PS3s - like all of you - and unfortunately that means we don't get a lot of the additional data that comes with reproducing problems on a dev kit, to help us solve an issue quickly.
In the meantime, we have to do this a little old school, and keep narrowing cases down. So I have a few more questions to help us further, or help eliminate some other edge cases. Also, I've noted that some of you have already responded to these, but i'm trying to get a sense of whether they are common or not, so every post does help.
- There may be relation to save games / saving which we're reviewing. On the PS3, DA has a system that allows you to continue playing while you are saving (note that the save icon is still going). If you wait/stop until the icon has disappeared completely, do you still experience crashes? Or are these only happening if you continue to do things while saving (moving, talking, combat, opening GUIs like inventory, etc)?
Freezes sometimes soon after a save but also sometimes 30 minutes after a save. There is occasional correlation but I don't believe they are related. Freezes occur during any activity, from sorting inventory to strolling along a trail with no mobs around. The only time I have not seen a freeze yet is during a cut-scene.
- We don't think it is related at this time, but just want to get a reality check on whether hard drive space available is a factor. Could you provide a rough estimate of free space if you're getting crashes? Also, an indication of how many DA save game slots you have on the profile you're playing with?
Brand new 120 gig slim and the only game installed is DAO and DAO-A, lot's of hard drive space.
- Another line we're looking at is whether this is largely affecting data that existed pre-3.3. For those that added DAO only after 3.3, have you experienced crashes?
I was freezing with the pre 3.30 install. I wiped the game and did a new install after 3.30 and the same freezes occur.
- Audio still playing seems to be a common item, and it is actually a very good lead if solid. Are you experiencing crashes where not even audio is playing? Or predominantly it is everything is unresponsive but audio continues? Does audio stop a few minutes after the crash, or keep going?
The audio does not miss a single beat when the screen suddenly freezes.
- Lastly, DA is a title that requires you to install the game to the hard drive. If you are experiencing issues on OTHER games after 3.3, are these games also installed to the hdd? Did the game require this, or did you manually choose to install it?
Thank you again.
Also, for those just jumping into the thread - if you'd like to see a recap of all posts we've made so far on a thread, you can do so by clicking on the BioWare icon under each thread.
Thanks for looking into this for us. Sony's customer service was not helpful. Neither was EA. They said call Sony. Sony said the disk is bad or I need to rebuild the file system. Help us Bioware, you're our only hope.

Btw. Whats with the dissapearing Blooddragon armor from inventory ? Is there any way to get it back?
I needed 36 strenght to wear it. When i achieved 36 strenght yestreday, i tried to wear armor at last it should be an epic moment ;D but it dissapeared form my inventory. Its weird, cause i can buy other parts in my team camp, but armor is gone.

To the Dvs, it may be wise to contact Naughty Dog as they had a similar issue with Uncharted with a FW update about 18 months ago. Sony released an updated FW within a couple of weeks once they had found the issue.
Its worth a shot and they may be able to help as they have done a lot of coding for the PS3 so far.

• Dragon Age:Origins with Blood Dragon Armor & The Stone Prisoner DLC.
• Currently roaming Redcliffe Castle. Game hangs when I bring about the radial menu (probably once every 5 times?) Occasionally opening the codex or inventory screens crash the games as well (I'm assuming it's whenever the gameplay is paused)
• Game freezes up (but audio still continues) until you eject the disc. Then the system reboots.
• PS3 Slim 120G, with plenty of space to spare.
• 5 save slots for this guy, only one char so far.
I've disabled auto-save from the options menu since the start, so I've not encountered crashing while saving. I usually wait until the save icon disappears before I start moving, but have not determined if it helps the crashes or not (they still seem to happen). Other game data pre-installed before 3.3 seem to be working fine. Audio continues playing long after game crashes.
Hope these answer your questions.

Region; Canada
Other games; Hustle Kings (downloaded from PS Store) Played a couple of hours. No issues.
DA:O froze in The Circle Tower twice and twice in the Ruined Temple. All I was doing was casually jogging down the hallway looking for loot I may have missed the first time through the area. No fights were occurring at the time of freeze.
And; there is a small framerate issue since the 3.30 update.
I've played DA:O for 60 hours without a single freeze then suddenly four freezes in less than two hours of play.
I have only one character and only one run through.
Please fix!!
My PS3 is connected wirelessly to the internet via an Apple Time Capsule and cable modem (supplied by the ISP). My PS3 uses a static IP Address. All the ports listed in the DA manual have been opened.
Bioware asks; Did the freeze occur near a auto-save point?
I've had four crashes. Two occurred right after each other within moments after an auto-save. I was in the Circle Tower and went from one floor to another. I don't recall which floor it was but I was headed down, so from third floor to second floor or something like that. Once I was on the new floor I turned right and headed down the hallway when the game froze. I force quit the console, restarted it and resumed the game. There I was standing at the bottom of the stairs again and just like the first time when I headed down the hallway the game froze. I made it about 40 steps further than the first freeze.
Freeze three; I was in the Ruined Temple searching for loot I may have missed the first run through. There were no enemies and no battles taking place. I went through an open doorway and then up a few stairs from the Main Hall to a small room with two Ballistas (they had already been tripped on a previous run through the area.). I was poking around this room when freeze. I don't remember if the game auto-saved before entering the room.
Freeze four; happened at the same place as freeze three. (I had just finished retracing the activity from the last auto-save to the freeze three spot.) I went through the doorway and up the stairs. There was no auto-save. At this point I performed a manual save and then freeze.I haven't been back. I'm waiting for a fix.
Bioware asks; Do I play while game is saving.
No, I do not. It's a habit of mine to wait until the icon disappears before continuing.
Bioware asks: How much HD space do I have?
I upgraded to a 500GB HD several months ago. I have about 400GB available.
Bioware asks: How many DA save game slots you have on the profile you're playing with?
30. I was manually saving quite frequently when I first started playing. Then one day the game said I couldn't create any more game save slots so I've been overwriting the same one ever since.
Bioware asks: For those that added DAO only after 3.3, have you experienced crashes?
I have manual game saves after 3.3. I have crashed after loading these manual game saves.
Bioware asks: Does audio play?
I was listening to music the first three freezes and did not hear the audio crash. The fourth freeze the audio played for several seconds before stopping.

The origins quest and first "wilds" quest played perfectly, i didnt get any freezes until part of the way through Lothering (fighting the soldiers in the tavern was my first freeze).
I had it freeze with 1 save file and with 2.
Low disk space, >5gb
Im pretty sure it has frozen away from a save point.
I continued moving throughout the saves.
Im not sure about the audio, had my volume low.

Now, as far as my responses to the newest round of questions:
-As far as the save games thing goes, I played through ~10 freezes before giving up and in my experience the freezes did not seem linked to the save system (manual, or the autosaves). They were just randomly distributed. Sometimes while in a fight, sometimes while loading a new area, sometimes while changing Tactics, etc.
-HDD space is plentiful and new. Only got my PS3 around the holidays, and I've still got >100GB available. And my only character has currently maxed out his save slots (I think it's 31 saves, or however many the maximum is).
-(Didn't install DA:O post-3.30, so this question doesn't apply to me.)
- Audio during the crash depends on the audio that was playing pre-crash. I think it just plays until the end of the file, or if the audio is set to loop indefinitely until a condition breaks it out (like in a fight), it seems to go on indefinitely.
-MGS4 which requires install plays fine. Bayonetta, which was an optional install, but I also installed to HDD, also works fine.
I hope this helps! And get on Sony, I'm sure if you can get someone from EA to have stern words with them, we'll see some cooperation and results much faster. Threaten to withhold Madden or something.

Using a PS3 80gb model, have tried a reinstall and a database rebuild to no avail. The crashes are completely random here.

My lockups seem to be very random and mostly not related to save points, in fact when it's running manual saves cause no problems at all. Redcliffe castle caused no end of freezin for me, during inventory, battles and even just walking around. Each time the screen freezes but music still plays in the background.
The only other game i'm playing at the moment is pro evo 2010, I've had one freeze on that so far. There is an HDD install but it was a manual one.

- I've tried letting the save fully complete and also keep playing while saving and neither makes a difference. I haven't had a freeze near a save or load anyway.
- I have about 200 gigs free on my PS3 hard drive (320 in total)
- My problems occurred with pre-3.30 data. I haven't tried starting a new game.
- Audio does continue to play even when everything else stops. Once I didn't realise it had frozen because I was in the pause menu. Only realised what was happening when I tried to continue my game.
- I have played several other titles that install data, both that are compulsory and those that are voluntary. All work fine.

Saving is not a problem. I've tried both waiting and continuing to play while saving. No difference.
European / Norwegian version of both the game and PS3. I have a 80GB PS3. Close to 10 GB free space.
No expansions installed.
(Btw, not having the opportunity to backup my savegame's is a tragedy.)

Not sure if it's any less harmful than a forced shut down, if that is in fact harmful in any way, but it makes me feel a little better about it.

Everytime it has crashed on me I have found it's when I am fighting enemies, when I pull up the radial menu it freezes up. The music will continue to play until I reset the machine.
My data was already installed prior to the recent update and I usually wait until the machine has entirely finished saving before I start to play on.

We're talking with Sony but this is a bit out of the blue for us as to why it is affecting DA (this is a sony hardware update).
Could I ask if this is affecting you to include some more details...- Are you playing Origins or Awakening disc (or DLC version)- Which Sony region are you in- Could you check a different title on your PS3 to confirm if this is DA only
Thank you.

1. Playing Origins disc. No Awakening. No DLC.
2. Playing in the KOREA.
3. Other games have not experienced any problems since the update.

Savng while moving around and entering menus, game still crashes at random but has never done so while processing the save, (same result while saving while not moving or entering menus.
I experience crashes where audio is playing. All contoller inputs are completly unresponsive, and audio keeps going.
Still crashes where audio is completly silent (between loops) and audio starts playing after a while even thogh everything is unresponsive.
More prone to crash at random under heavy load. (During combat and just after the encounter)
Still crashes at random under minimal load (while moving) (especially when having buff effect active like the rogues momentum)
No crashes so far while standing still and doing nothing.
No problems with other software other than DAO.
