Game crashing after PS3 Firmware 3.30 update

Do any of you have a few minutes to check something out? Try creating a new PS3 profile with no Trophies unlocked, play DAO for a bit and see if it has any effect on the crashes/freezes?
Probably unrelated, but it would be worth checking into to cross it off the list, so if anyone doesn't mind donating a few minutes and posting back here, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

what aumichael sugested really works
"Hi, The freezes seem to have stopped for me after turning off PS
Upscaler and PS Smoothing in Settings: Game Settings. It was freezing
about every 10-30min, but I've played for a couple hrs without a freeze
since turning off the settings mentioned. Just a fyi - may be worth
trying."
tried as well that, and I played for about 3-4 hours without any problems
hope this helps you as well
Interesting. Could folks post what resolution they have their PS3 at? Are you running HD or SD? And what kind of physical hook-up (HDMI, composite). And whether trying the above works for them?
Thank you again
Quick follow-up - looking more at this internally we're not sure this is related (but send in your results nonetheless).
HOWEVER, if you are running the PS3 higher than 720p, could you try to change the settings to 720p and see if that has any effect (e.g. are you crashing less frequently?)
Thank you
allowing for 1080p/1080i/720p. I tried switching all settings options
offered on forum pages 1-9, and still get freezes. I tried switching
it down to 720p as the max setting with no luck. As far as I'm
concerned, your company is not at fault, but I'd rather see the problem resolved as opposed to nothing at all. So thank you for responding, and letting us know you care.

Just a thought: When one fo my servers crash (panic) they create dumpfile / vmcore. Could PS3 do the same ? This file could be uploaded to Bioware for analysis.
Is it possible ?

My PS3 started crashing after the new sytem update as described in other posts. Don't let anyone tell you its a hardware issue. It does it on all the PS3 models old and new. I can thank EA support for insisting that I install this time bomb firmware that can't be easily undone. All part of repeated contacts with EA support over the DLC which remained VERY unresolved. This is new crash/freeze issue was so timely EA! I had just bought the Combo Feastpack which fixed this DLC issue. (BTW) EA knows buying DLC fixes the long running DLC problem and I would not be suprised if marketing issues were delaying the real patch!
So end result is as follows:
The EA Song and Dance
Congress in Washington DC could not have done better!
1) I spend a lot of money for a game and expansion.
2) Surprise - Included DLC does not load or operate as promised.
3) EA support wastes my time and more money to try to access DLC I already purchased.
4) EA support instruction lead to corruption of my entire PS3 EA game files.
5) EA support continues to blame customers hardware and ISP connections.
6) Promises are made to again address a general server issues that may be the culprit.
7) A miraculous fix appears that involves buying more DLC content. (Feast Day Combo)
8) Just when I think the pain is over and can enjoy DA - I realized I was really sucker punched again when EA support insists I apply firmware update 3.30. (
9) Now my PS3 console freezes every few minutes if I try to play DA.
I sit here waiting for the next shoe to drop -
Sony's is not the guilty party here - EA Bioware should have tested in advance of the system update and how it affects their products. Some games work just fine with 3.30.
Is anyone else sufficiently outraged by this kind of treatment?
Maybe you got lucky with the DLC, and maybe that fixed an issue you were having. But I haven't seen anyone from EA or BioWare telling anyone to purchase it for that reason.
I also really don't understand how BioWare is responsible for an update Sony added to try and push the purchase of ridiculous new 3D television sets.

As for the place of the crash, I'd say it can happen anywhere. I had it crash in ruins in brecillian, in the tower of the magi. Even while simply standing in the camp doing nothing. I guess if it doesn't crash in some locations for you than you're just lucky.
All I definately know is tha my game never crashes as long as I'm not connected with the internet.
I guess I'm gonna try playing connected to the internet, but not to PSN.
If the game won't crash w/o being connected to PSN guess where the problme lies...
Edit: I guess testing that won't work, since you can't connect to the Dragon Age server w/o beeing connected to PSN. Too bad.
I'm wondering if maybe it is some visual effect that occurs more often in the Tower / Fade due to the design of those levels, and that is why we see more crashes there. Others have mentioned it freezing when they change camera angle or targets. So maybe the Tower / Fade design just requires more camera angle changes? Never noticed it before, but it makes sense with the Tower being circular in design, thus requiring lots of turns.
Also, since the update was meant to enable 3D for certain movies/games, and this is a visual related freeze (everyone reports that the audio continues as though everything were fine), it would make sense that the system is freezing when it has trouble processing certain visual data (like the changing camera angles).
Just a wild theory.

Were you encountering problems with it in ~23 minutes when you were playing on your profile that had Trophies unlocked? I mean is it any different with the new profile?

um... i tried starting a game w/ a new profile no trophies unlocked, i be able to play 4-5 hours. i continue it the next day it freeze after 30 mins. I reboot it, then i be able to play w/o freezing. no freezing w/ over 10hrs of my gameplay, havent play online, im just afraid that it will affect my gameplay.
So leaving your PS3 on, then continuing the next day on DAO causes freezes, but they are resolved when you reboot?

Yet more proof that Bioware doesn't seem to give a crap about us.
What proof is that? The BioWare reps in here gathering data to try and give enough to Sony to get them to fix a problem that their update caused? That what you're talking about?

All my crashes were on a new mage, wearing boring starter stuff except for the three equipment pieces from Dragon Age: Journeys.
None of them were while I was doing anything other than walking around and/or moving the camera- not in a menu, not in a store, not in combat, not talking to anyone, not saving, not autosaving, not leveling up.
I'm plugged into the tv with an hdmi cable, running 1080p, Upscaler and Smooting turned on.

Hi Tatalya!
Can you do me a favor (if you have the time), and try the same thing, but with a fresh PS3 profile, with no saves or trophies attached to it? Let me know if it has any effect? Thanks a lot, it can help narrow down the issue.

In an effort to recreate the problem I played both times using a trophies account and non trophy account using a female elven mage. The spot where it froze for the trophies related game was in the first room right after talking to Jowan while randomly walking around. The follow game in which I created a completely new account I have been able to get to the point where I walked Duncan to his room.

Does it consistently freeze in the exact same spot on each profile? Jowan convo w/ Trophies, Duncan's room w/o Trophies?
