Now...it's been 5-10 minutes with a brand new character.

I've had crashes but mine don't seem to be occurring as often as other people so I can still kinda play without getting too frustrated.
I feel like a drug addict... I need my Dragon Age fix!

Just a quick question: Should we avoid playing al together? Is there a chance the crashes could effect game saves or have some other long term effect?
It's a computer and like any computer improper shut downs (like hard reboots) do affect it's performance over time. Best thing to do is shelf the game till there's a fix. It's a hard pill to swallow but it'll be better for your system in the long run.

I was having lock ups every few minutes in Redcliffe. I signed out of PSN to test it out and presto, crashes stopped. I played through a few hours in the same areas of Redcliffe with no issue. Can some one give that a try to see if that solves it for them. I noticed that someone above did a bunch of stuff including signing out of PSN and the problem also stopped.
I tried playing after I disabled the internet. The crashes still occur, although less frequently.

You make a lot of sense man thanks. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Own a CECH-2001A, 120 gig system, deleted and reinstaled the game, then ran the the system through safe mode 3, restore file system, game has crashed only 2 times since i ran it through safe mode. I thought safe mode had fixed the problem till it crashed on me last night.

Edit: I did tell him that it's a hot topic on both Bioware and the PS3 official forums.

Ok here's an odd case. I've posted several times about my new mage that was unplayable due to constant crashing. Well, last night I decided to try and play her again. I didn't change any in-game settings or PS3 system settings from my last attempts, but I was able to complete the circle tower/fade and get to Lothering without a single crash.... I really don't know what to make of that. This crashing issue seems so unpredictable and hard to reproduce.
Theres been so many instances of crashes in so many different and seemingly unrelated places... When some people have said they get crashes in the fade or in Redcliffe, for example, other people have said they get no crashes there.
I also find crashes are unpredictable and inconsistant. Sometimes I can play for a few hours without a crash, other times i can play for only 20 minutes. There seems to be the same inconsistancy from person to person aswell.
Some people say they get crashes when they're in particularly graphics intensive sections like with a large amount of people on screen at once. Others get crashes when they are just running down a corridor.
Maybe the crashes aren't related to whats happening in the game at all. They could be just random.

I personally only had to hard reboot my system only once since getting it back in November and it wasn't even a game related instance.

Okay seriously though, after I attempted to re-install the update and had my system go into meltdown in short order. I decided it must be related to settings or something on the PS3 when you do the update.
So I reset my PS3, took out my disc, and tried the re-install again
So far so good...crossing my fingers...

The only consistent and common factor is that most (if not all) had no (or very little) problems prior to the firmware update.

Exactly right zenassassins! I've rarely had to hard reboot my system before 3.30 aswell.
I was on a Sony forum earlier and someone had said that it's a bad idea to install a firmware update with a disk in the system. Now I remember that I had my dragon age disk in my PS3 when I updated to 3.30.
Maybe thats why it's only effecting Dragon Age?
What about the rest of you guys? Did you all have your Dragon Age disk in your PS3 when you updated?

Although considering the game installs on the HD and I can't see why that would have any effect. Course I'm not a game developer either so I'll just shush up.

I actually turned my PS3 on (without a disc in the drive), and signed into the PSN Network, at which point, I was notified of the update.
I then ran the update and when it was complete, inserted my Modern Warfare 2 disc and continued to get murdered in Multiplayer Team Deathmatch. So far no problems with that game.
Only a day later did I remove my Brand New DA:O from its packaging and install the game.
