Game crashing after PS3 Firmware 3.30 update

I popped in my 360 version just to test it, and I don't get the same problem. Only with my PS3.
(you can check my profile to see I own both versions, even the DLC for both. Yes, I'm a DA loser)

I have not had any freezing issues with Dragon Age: Origins & Awakenings as I have Disabled my internet connection in the Network Options section of the XMB. When I saw this thread, I decided I could live without having my Ps3 online until this gets sussed out.
The decision is yours: If you do not install Firmware 3.30, DA will run as it did *pre-update*. So far I have not seen one post either here or on the Sony Blog reporting Dragon Age running normally, (ie. not freezing) after Firmware Update 3.30.

I've had the same problem: the game just seem to freeze at random points. But the game has stopped freezing after I started to save after every dialogue and fight. I tested without saving, and it froze not long after. Maybe it's too early to say for sure, but it seems it works for me (while waiting for a real solution, of course).
If this indeed prevents the freeze from happening, it would seem to point to a memory corruption issue IMO. I would venture to guess that any unsaved data is buffered in RAM until a save is done, at which time the data would be flushed to hard disk. The more data you have to save, the bigger and more complex the buffer(s) and the more complex the pointers to store that/those buffer(s). I would also guess that the PS3 just provides an API to the DAO program. The DAO program requests a memory allocation for its unsaved data at boot up. It could be that the amount of memory requested or the amount of data stored is hitting a key memory quantity that is causing the PS3's memory management code to choke.
Sorry, just thinking out loud.

Good point, I went nearly four hours last night without a crash but I was also saving after every fight and dialog, but I stopped saving after I had cleared the quest and gone back to vigils keep, spent a good half hour resetting runes and selling and buying loot, sure enough another crash when trying to level Nathaniel.

I love the game and want to play as much as I can. But still very annoying and may keep me from buying the DLC.

I haven't turned mine on today, yet. May have to try this save theory.

I have noticed that it doesn't freeze as much when I do save the game often. But there are times when I can't save and it seems that is when it gets me mostly.
This just caught my eye. What do you mean by "as much"? What was it doing before?

But the First and new 3gen models crash no matter what. Now i've noticed that a few things crash it.
Fire. Activated abilitys like song of courage, stepping on the bride peices on UOSA quest fireballs and most other spells. If your run to fast the game can lock up to also heavy armors make me freeze at times my game will lock but the main problem i think is the connection between the bioware servers here and the ps3 its self. Cause signed out i can play for awhile before locking so i think every six hours my ps3 tries to see if it can contact the bioware servers and it locks. Even if i get off the game and reload it the game has to crash before i can play another 6hours of play. But my guess is as good as any at this point just food for thought.

Whoa I just got a DM on twitter from Jess Chobot! Apparently IGN did know about this already... No clue as to why they haven't written an article about it though...
Hehe tell her to mention it in the Daily Fix

Ha i say the best fix is getting a PC....Im gona get one next year that way i got the best of both worlds...
I did that once... But then in a year my PC was outdated and I couldn't afford a new one so I got a PS3 instead
It's such a shame that PC gaming is dying out cos we may hate to admit it, you can't get better graphics than on a PC. Plus FPSs are awesome on a PC...
Still waiting on an email back from Bioware but at least I have this forum as a substitute to playing Dragon Age

Until, I read in the early post by someone, to disable the BD/DVD upconvert under setting, I was playing fine for another 4 hours before I went to bed... will continue tonight to see if I hit and freeze.
