Just have a couple of interns play the game on a consumer ps3 until it freezes and then they can report to you how it happened.

Just a wild guess, Bioware is more than a handful of kids trying to program a game somewhere in a garage on 3rd-hand-PS3's.. I'm even guessing they have developer kits and a dozen of regular PS3's (one of each model, who knows?) to bugcheck and test their products on. Problem is that the game will have to freeze on one of the development kit's PS3's in order to really bugfix it, methinks...

the cord plugged in is not permanent it freezes after about two hours for me :/ shouldn't have said anything haha

This really bites. I got 2 days in a row off from work, a rare occasion.

And the main thing i wanted to do with that spare time was sit down, and finish a playthrough with my rogue.

I know, things happen, and I know Bioware is trying to fix this, but its frustrating.

Ah well, I'll get my fix from watching Toegoff's LP of Dragon Age

I've been having this issue since 3.30 came out... It was horrible on my mage, every hour or so the whole system would freeze, making me reset the system and losing a lot of work. Even my 3 elf archers have the issue. All 4 characters were made before the update. I had 5 freezes alone tonight.

I just tonight made a HNM, just to see if he has any issues. So far, it's okay. *knocks on wood*

Edit: And he just had his first freeze. 4:24AM EST.

I find if I stand on my head and recite shakespeare backwards the freezes seem to stop or is that just me? ;-)

- what class is your character?
- what is your character wearing? Do crashes ever occur when you're changing gear?
- for store crashes, what action exactly are you taking in the store when it crashes? (e.g. looking through your junk tab)
- for save crashes, does it crash during autosaves or regular saves? If regular saves, what part of the save process? (e.g. selecting the save slot)
- for Circle Tower and Fade crashes, what exactly are you doing when the game crashes? (e.g. killing blow on Hunger Demon)
- for leveling crashes, what class of character are you leveling? Are you autoleveling them or manually leveling them? When exactly during leveling does the game freeze?

As many details as you can give us on any crash you experience is helpful. Even details that seem irrelevant are often important.

Again, we really appreciate your help figuring this issue out. Unfortunately, we don't receive firmware updates from Sony until everyone else does, which makes it impossible for us to catch this prior to it wrecking your stuff. But, we're trying really hard to sort this out.

I am waring a mix of Heavy armor and no it doesn't crash apon changing armor or items

it Freezes on both saves

the last few times was just walking around Vigil's keep the last time was after 15 mins or so it froze as I was moving to kill the Children on the attack of the keep!

I hope this helps but all my Freezes are usually in Vigil's Keep or around it and i do hear the music playing while Frozen I have waited it out for over 4 hours and still its playing but the game is still Frozen I have even tried another Profile and it still freezes in the same area for me but starting a new char it freezes just after you have to go to the Tower of Ishal to light the fire umm after the cut scene! =( I have 3 chars on the load screen I have my PS3 set on a Composite wire its running 1080i I have a PS3 80GB! I hope this helps!! I really want to beat Awakening on PS3! Thank you for looking into this problem I hope you can fix it with ease and get Sony's help in full =)

I did not experience any freezing of the game until downloading the 3.30 update. Since then I have played the game on both a HDtv and an older low definition model. It does seem that I experience less frequent freezes when playing on a HDTV (one in approx five hours last night compared to four over a shorter period the night before). Could this be relevant?

Mine seems to freeze just after long conversations (twice in 20 mins) that I have to then go through again. I only picked the game up again yesterday after downloading the two extra quests and I can't even play them now!!!

Sony are not being very helpful but Bioware have posted on this thread and contacted a number of the more active posters. They are working on it. It's just a matter of time.

 This thread is getting pretty long now. Plus we went off on a massive tangent yesterday so I'm gunna write a recap/summary of all thats gone on for any newcomers.

• Firmware version 3.30 causes Dragon Age to freeze. In most cases the audio keeps playing. Players must force a reboot in order to carry on playing.
• The crashes are unpredictable and inconsistent. Some players seem to get 20 minutes play, others get a few hours. Also, some people notice crashes in certain places, such as the Circle Tower. Others get them in completely different, and unrelated, places.
• There are a number of temporary fixes to the issue that increases play time before a crash occurs. I do stress the temporary. Here's a list of the ones I can remember:

• Completely disconnecting your PS3 from the internet
• Turning off the PS upscaling and smoothing
• Reseting the system to default settings and reinstalling the firmware update
• saving very often

• Bioware are aware of the problem and are currently working on a fix. They have emailed a number of the posters (me included) on this thread asking for very detailed information on our PS3's setup and our habits whilst playing Dragon Age so that they can replicate the problem on their Development PS3s and try and work out a permanent solution.

Have I missed anything out?

Just started up uncharted 2 and it had to install an update, it crashed right away and rebooted my system. The second time it installed the update just fine, but damn this update did a lot more damage then just dragon age. (although dragon age got the worst of it)

I even tryed not having a net connection but still freezing but its random on when it freezes I would love to test out my Main but I can't game won't allow me to play Awakening with out net heh DLC Protection I figure! I have reinstalled the Firmware still freezes in the same places the Option for PS Upscaling isn't on and smoothing! I save every dang time I can! and I think you hit the recap on the button =)

Yeah the fixes don't always work. Most people say they only increase the time between crashes.

Thanks guys I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an email back from Bioware.

[color=#ff6600">My version of dragon age origins ](And Awakening)[/color] has been freezing up 2 hours in then when i go back on it, the freezes become more frequent. I have disabled PS Smoothing and Upscaler (or something like that) and it has slightly improved the time i'm on it.

Here is the details of when what and who my freezes do:

[*]Happens 2-4hours, reboot reduces time so i just wait for the next day to play again.

[*]I've played on my rogue hunter in the Blackmarsh's Fade, and that's where it first froze up in awakening for me. Second time was against The Mother. This was after 5 hours gameplay so i was lucky.

[*]He has the Blackblade tunic and helmet ( Of what i can recall ) 

[*]Before I got Awakening, the freezes were more frequent only as i was in the Circle tower on my Elf warrior. This happened every time i was in combat against an elite or higher creature.

[*]The freezes happen whenever i am in the middle of combat or i'm just coming out of combat. This was against Elite & Higher creatures on both Awakening and Origins.

[*]I have an 80gb PS3 and a "19" inch TV but it automaticly plays Dragon age on 720p but on my God of war 3 it plays on 1080p and some other games too.

Wow, this arrived yesterday and I started playing it today, or tried to.



PS3 via HDMI at 720p, no menus open, no problems during the fade but once I had returned to the mage tower:-



1) crashed after an autosave on the first floor of the mage tower in the small area before the round room leading to the stairs to the second floor.



2) crashed during a normal save (after the menu was closed) on the second floor upon leaving the south eastern most room (library)



Don't want to have to force my PS3 to reset anymore so this disc is going back in the case till this is resolved.

Yeah the picture will stay as the starter gear I think but if you go to the character section of your profile and look at the character picture that looks a bit like the left hand side of the inventory screen, hover your mouse cursor over the armour slots and it says what armour you have equipped.
