I'm having the same problem. Specifically whenever I try to save or go into the character menus such as inventory, map, quests etc; the game freezes and I have to hold down the power button to reset. This happens EVERYTIME I go into the said menus. Without fail.
I even reported the issue to Sony support and you know what they said?
"Hello,

We apologize for any inconvenience and frustration this may have caused with the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system firmware update. We have no known issues with the firmware update to cause any issues with the suggested titles. we apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused with the console freezing. We may only suggest that you try the troubleshooting suggestions for the console to resolve this as we do not have any information regarding this issue.

Regards,
TszKam W."

I have one thing in response to this. LIEING SACKS OF ****!!!!!!!
I am extremely angry. I REALLY want to kick them in the teeth... repeatedly for that.

I'm trying to think of other industries that would get away with selling such an appauling customer experience.

Another day with no update from Sony or Bioware, and I sorely doubt anything will move over the weekend (we already paid for the product, so what the hey). This is really quite shameful.

Well I downloaded the fix on my USB dirve so I guess I'll take it home and give it a go. I'm a bit worried about it though as I was on the PSN forum and sounds like people are having all sorts of problems, though DA seems to be the biggest one as far as games go. I've only had my system since Christmas so I don't want to have it totally screwed up! Next update I'm going to wait a while before installing it just in case.

I'm not big into conspiracy theories as I figure for the most part companies just want to make money and doing bad business means people stop buying your products. There must be millions of people world wide who own PS so wouldn't they really want them happy so they buy all the stuff that goes along with them? The same goes for BioWare, if people are unhappy with them they won't buy their products any more and on top of that they will tell everyone about it. I think unhappy people on BB's can do a lot of damage to a company if they wanted to.

The long and the short of it is we all just want a fix so we can get back to a game we all really love playing and talking about and hoping for more DLC and expansions etc.

Needless to say, playing the "Blame Game" isn't going to help things get figured out....if it ever gets figured out. All we can do is try to troubleshoot as much as we can and wait to see if there will be a fix. I'm not exactly thrilled about it either; but I'm not going to start slinging blame. It doesn't change the fact that a problem exists. Who care who's fault it is as long as it gets fixed?

I'm placing good faith in that the BW team is working to try and figure it out. It seems to be a rather perplexing issue with no cut-and-dry answer. They are human and are probably as stumped as we are about it.

Exactly right. You hit the nail on the head there :)
I'm confident that the reason why Bioware haven't been in contact with us for the past few days is because they are working hard to fix this.

I hope so. I bought the PS3 version just yesterday. I install it, I run it, and what happens? It freezes. Everytime. You can understand why I personally would be a teeny bit angry.

Yeah I do feel sorry for you guys who have only just got the game but please don't trade it in because of this. This a minor set back. Soon enough, when this is over, you'll be addicted like the rest of us! :P

*EDIT*

For those of you that really need a Dragon Age fix, check this out. Its a flash version of DA!!

@BrianShetty: LOL! My husband has jokingly called me an addict and has referred to the controller as "The Pipe". "Babe, put the pipe down!"

Of course I laugh even harder because he has more hours invested in the game than I do!!!!

I'm going to give it another week and if there hasnt been an update fixing the problem I'll be returning my copy.
Which furstates me and makes me very sad. I WANT to play this game. What tiny bit I have played has made me love it but theres no point in owning an unplayable game.

I get that from him i threatened to make him drunk enough so he'd give me the money for me to buy it for him and he just laughed i am addicted to it because a guy from my work wound up mentioned it to me and he plays on the Xbox360 but i first thought the game was kinda slow from what i was used to (GOW, madden...ect) but as i played more and more the storyline captured me and it went back all the way to FFX of a captivating storyline of which i played that game insanely as i have with this one i have easily done more than 300+ hours on the game haha:ph34r:

is it 'PS3' and then 'UPDATE'? cos I tried that too and it didn't work :(

Try clicking the TRIANGLE button => choose DISPLAY ALL => press X button. This should display all the files on your USB stick.

And the USB stick needs to be formatted to FAT32, I think.

Can you see your USB stick? If not try a different USB port.

Just throwing a few ideas out there. Sometimes we can overlook the simplest things.

I'm going to try this temp fix, too. I'll update tonight. Or tomorrow if I'm busy wooing Leliana. (not a bad place to freeze, if ya gotta freeze!)

http://us.playstatio...pdate/index.htm

I tried this myself. The other sections on the PS3 are reading my memory stick fine, pics, music, video etc. But System Update in Settings doesnt recognise it at all or cant find the PS3UPDAT.PUP file even though its in teh correct PS3/UPDATE/ folders.
I'm pulling my hair out here >_<

Ha try the television industry for one, the people at Dish network actually made my dad cry once because they shut off his service because he hadn't paid for channels he wasn't getting, while hilarious it was a terrible "customer experience" for him

As for the issue I've already given up hope, unlike most of you after 8 playthroughs I'm not as addicted to this game as I used to be, they'll get it fixed again and when they do I'll start playing it again

I also agree with OrlesianWarden it seems to me that console users have been getting the shaft from day one, which is something I was criticised for saying before the game was released

Think i found an area where a crash is pretty much guaranteed to happen. I can't even get past it.

*spoilers*
It's in the warden's keep DLC at the fight with Sophia. I've had it happen three times now already, either during combat or shortly after. There is usually a framerate drop that happens before it. At the actual freeze the music continues to play.

Being connected to the network doesn't seem to matter much anymore either. At my last attempt it froze within 2 minutes. Just after starting the battle.

I played through the Warden's Keep yesterday without a problem.
