I bought DA:O 2 days ago and now I can't even play it OMG.

Froze 3 times in 30 (yes, 30) MINUTES.
I tried to play without the internet connection - freeze after 5 min. >_>
Yay, for an awesome weekend full of freezes

Region: EU
Model: 250gb slim

Only DA:O freezes for me, played Heavy Rain and FFXIII without any problems

I'm getting crashes in the final battle. DAO never crashed before.

- Dragon Age Origins without any DLC

- Europe region (but I thought that the PS3 was region-free)

- No other game crashes.

Are there any plans to fix these freeze ups? I am quickly loosing interest in a game that does not work.

Thanks for the warning guys. I won't be downloading the update then until this issue is resolved. I don't play online and there aren't any new games on the horizon that I am that excited about getting that would require me to update. I feel badly for the people who chat and play multi-player online though with their Ps3. To be honest Sony is really shooting themselves in the foot with these updates. The last one re-moving the option for other os and this one which makes dragon age un-playable. The next system i get will not be a sony. This coming from a person who has only purchased sony systems since the playstation 1 and my ps2 is still going strong after almost 10 years.

I was having the same problem today. And I can confirm that disconnecting ethernet cable did the trick for me. Although, I don't know whether or not it helped completely, but freezes surely became less frequent. Well, there were actually none since removing the cable, though I've played only for 2 hours straight. Before that there were freezes every 10-20 minutes of play.

I'm in The Deep Roads, btw.

- Dragon Age Origins without any DLC

- Asia region, but EU PSN account.

- Haven't tested other games

This is getting more and more annoying I am losing progress everytime a freeze happens. Sigh only other option now is to save after every conversation which is really frustrating

Playing update:

Disconnected from the net and re-installed the firmware update (yeah I know... pure insanity) via my PC by way of a USB storage device. I read somewhere that would was a better option (I dunno why) than doing it through the PS3.

Played for about 45 minutes through the final battle with the arch demon. Lots of animations and characters on the screen - no crashes. Didn't want to press my luck so I saved after the battle.

Will be checking to see if the Avatar blu Ray works later on...

Just my luck I just get this game a few days ago and this is the end result... well, a couple of days ago I had to figure out all night why the heck I couldn't get that free content that came with the game. EA tech supports said it was a work in progress but then I followed the forum's idea and just bought that gift package for three bucks and worked like a charm.

Just when one issue is solved, along comes crash after crash. It's too bad I really loved playing it for the couple of days that it worked!

Incidentally... called EA support AGAIN for this freexing issue, had to point them to the internet to read about it since the rep was totally unaware of any problems.

Tried the disabling of the internet...started the game...lasted abbout three seconds before freeze.

This is downright ridiculous. With every freeze i have to double check to see if I've done certain things before the freeze happened. I was lucky i made it out of Redcliffe with barely no freezes but then i saw it disappoint me after Irvine defeating the demon in the fade. So now i have to double-check npcs and such in Redcliffe to make sure i didn't miss anything. I'd like to know how the **** a Firmware update could cause so much damage? Did 3 yr olds write the programming for 3.30? Whats worse is Sony isn't the only major guilty party either. If we had unlocked saves i'd be tempted to backup my files and just reformat the HDD and put a earlier Firmware on. So Bioware better work their magic to fix this otherwise Dragon age Origins isn't gonna be in my collection for too much longer nor will i buy Dragon Age Origins II when it comes out. It's just insane to worry about crashes every step of the way in the game now. Not only makes it unplayable but makes it unenjoyable even if u were to stomach the crashes like some of us are.

As absurd as it is, disabling the network connection completely (not just logging out from the playstation network) has let me play the game without freezing for a few hours now, just as some people has suggested. Really, really odd.

Join the club......

Thought it was wierd, suddenly started crashing cant remember if it was after update, I got a new ps3 out of it though as shop thought it was a faulty ps3, crashed on wardens keep earlier, crashes every 1-2 hours now, I wiped the hdd completely and it slowed the crashes down a bit, cant even clear the system version back before 3.30 which sucks, Sony best sort this crap out.

I didn't delete the game save data, but I did delete the install of the game... then had to re download all addons... got to play for a half hour which is the longest its gone for me (it's been crashing after a few seconds previously). Now another freeze. I give up until something is done. Incidentally was told to do this by Playstation tech support. 'course the rep had never even heard of the game 'Dragon Age' so do you think she even knew there is any issue whatsoever?

Man, is it just a small issue that seems so big for me? I notice a LOT of messages an blogs n news sites are talking about this... is the communication to the tech support people from these companies that poor that both EA's & PS's have no clue?

I think the patch has somthing to do with the internet itself if you play signed off psn it works fine almost beat the game. 3.30 might have interfeared with the online server system that sends your game info to this website but im not entirely sure but thats the only thing i can think of since i can play fine when im not signed in. im on hour 4.

Everyone who wants to play dragon age sign out and then play it should work dont delete all your data.

Well i'm gonna try playing it without being signed into PSN once i'm done w/ helping my roomate unlock Blue Mage. I'll let u guys know if it does anything.

I think i had it lock up though before the FW update after i downloaded Ostagar also. May have just been out of the blue though. Cause Oblivion locked up like that a couple times.

I have a fat 60 gig PAL console, which does contain different hardware to the NTSC ones, but I think that only affects PS2 software.  Possibly something to that though.

i'd be interested to see what everyone else has here as wel.l It could be hardware and software issues that vary between types of concels. but some people are saying its effecting mw2 and codwaw i hope it is that way sony addresses this issue and fixes our game.
