We are, in fact, still working on the issue. Last week, we reached out to a number of people experiencing the issue to get further information to help us in resolving it. We're in touch with Sony to coordinate a resolution.
That's all I have for now. But we'll keep working on it!

Havent read all previous posts in this topic, maybe the problem is region(s)-specific? I am from the Europe, Netherlands.
No i got the same issue as everybody else
(Jammer genoeg)
Same here, also Netherlands, (incidentally, I 'only' have Star Ocean 4, Gran Turismo Prologue, Assassin's Creed 2 and DAO and playing AC2 and DAO for the past 7 days). AC2 hasn't crashed, haven't tried GT:P and SO4 yet.

I really wouldn't continue to play with the freezing, do something else till the fix is here, for your consoles sake if nothing else.
Not just the potential for hdd corruption but the repeated heating and cooling of the components caused by freezes and resets could cause problems, especially in older more ylod prone consoles.
Umm.. this might be a shock to you, but a system freeze doesn't involve cold

I think what Ornithophobe wants to say its when the system totally freezes in a way you need to turn it off to get out the freeze screen the system get temperature changes every time since it goes from totally working situation to a boot situation. So the temperature on the system keeps changing every time you do it because when you play non stop for a while the system keeps heating until reaches a level where get some temperature stability. And doing heating cooling all the time makes the thermal paste wear faster. And i dont know if a ps3 work like a computer but in computers rebooting all the time makes the parts life degree alot too because every time you pulse energy on it its reduce the life of the parts. the only part that really sufers more on keep running the computer whitout turn off much its the HD. Some HD are not made to run more then 8 hours a day.

Aaarghh... turning autosave off won't help either! It just froze on me... darn...Lillymon wrote...
Well, I just couldn't wait anymore, I had to play a little again (my dog is on withdrawal already too), and surprise: I'm playing for half an hour so far and no freeze (yet). The ps3 is online, but I turned autosave off and save manually every now and then. Wonder how long it's going to take today till it freezes on me!

Everybody needs to chill a bit, they're working on it, and you should expect it to take at least a few weeks. First they have to track it down - not easy because they can't replicate it on a dev machine, because it can take hours to replicate, and even then there's some apparent randomness to it. Worst case debugging scenario.
Second, once they find the problem and fix it, turnaround takes a little while since they have to pump it through a full QA cycle. So none of this "it's been a week already!!!! wtf!!!".
They're motivated to fix it for a lot of reasons - business, sequels, DLC, etc. But you can bet they're also motivated because fixing it is just the right thing to do. They're gamers too.

Dont know even why Sony keeps making these firmware updates so frequently...any person that understand a lilte about it knows every time you update its like fliping a coin if you gonna have a problem or not. Firmware updates should be donne only if you got NO other option or when comes with MAJOR and important changes. I read some posts in Sony forums of guys that have programing experience and they say this Sony updates not only update the Os but also the ps3 bios. If thats true its just insane keep doing this all the time like this...you get a bad data on the bios update and thats it...bricked...
Messing with the bios is like messing with someone's brain. It might be helpful, but more often then not, it's going to cause a massive problem

Thank you, I was also thinking of it increasing the chances of the solder cracking.

It may well be a fluke, but I realised I played Dragon Age (for first time) fine for the first hour or so til the crashing/freezing started so I deleted all but 2 saves. I've now been playing for around 3 hours with no problem, just making sure I don't move or do anything during a save (extra precaution). I could keep playing to see how long it goes, but it'll be a better test if anyone is in a position to try it (ie., okay just to have 2 saves).
I have a UK Fat 80gb, upgraded to 320gb.

You welcome. Its a important issue that this problem can affect. So we should be thinking about it too.

And you know whats the sad thing about all this? Any way you go you can get scre.wed this days. You can choose on having a machine with major problems on the hardware or another one that now wants to compete with the first one by making broken software...(dont know why the second machine keep wanting to compete with the first one...but who knows)

I deleted all my game data a while back...it helped alot, but didn't completely solve the problem, it still crashes on occasion.
I do think it is memory related so it makes sense that this would help.

Hehehe i didnt even bring it up the "third machine" because for me its a useless system. Man i was a nintendo guy in the years back but now all they new gaming for baby's drive me away from then. Even if anyone here got a wii you guys knows its probably your "backup" system. Guys like us that love games complex and intriguing as DA:O only have the other 2 broken options to choose as a main system heh.

Would you look at that? They are releasing another DLC.
DLC for a broken game. I... I'm out of socially acceptable expressions.
