After the update, I was having freeze issues that were too serious. My Dragon Age: Origins game would freeze occasionally after maybe a couple hours of play, which was no big deal. Recently though, I finally got to the final battle of the game with the Archdemon, and suddenly the freezing is more immediate. Upon starting the game and the battle, I can only get about halfway through before it locks up. I hope the fix comes sooner rather than later, I'd like to see the ending to this game! Hahahah.

Seems like every update causes one game or other to freeze. I updated to 3.3 also and now I have freezing on Awakenings. Although I updated before I finished Origins and that didn't freeze once. Weird.

The Dragon Age Site just posted on Facebook:

A patch to fix the frequent crashing issue that's plagued
PlayStation 3 players of Dragon Age: Origins since the release of
firmware 3.3 is currently being tested by BioWare, though an actual
release date is still up in the air.
According to a posting on the official BioWare forums by online
producer Fernando Melo, the team working on the PS3 crashing issue has
finally come up with a solution, thanks in no small part to player
feedback.

Thanks to the great feedback on here and from those folks we've been
in contact with directly, the team now thinks we've been able to find a
code-side workaround from our end to patch DA to play nicer with
firmware 3.3, which was one of our investigation threads.

Unfortunately there could still be a long wait ahead for patch
hopefuls.

We are currently testing this proposed code change as I write this,
and if successful the next step will be for it to go into EA's publisher
side certification testing. They are aware of the importance of this
and will give this priority in the queue of titles/patches across EA.
And once that clears, it will go into Sony cert testing.

Still, it's good to know relief is in sight, right? Hold on, they're
coming.

Strange. I just played DAO for like four or five hours, and nothing happened.

Its good to know that Bioware is alredy testing the patch but the fact that they need Sony to test this before release...

Well one has to remember that the 3.30 firmware might not be faulty, but only bringing up the faulty code in DAO. Sony could have just changed some older code to a new one, which shouldn't have been used in a certain way in the first place. In DAO they might have used the "wrong way" and it worked because Sony wasn't using it. Now they are and DAO is in trouble, but it's not Sony's "fault" because Bioware did wrongly from the beginning.

As I said...could be like that too. Then all the blame is on Bioware.

No, it's not about whose fault it is.  That never solves anything.  The issue is, why did this happen?  Where is the flaw in the process?

The flaw in the process is obvious.  Sony sends out FW updates, but does not allow publishers to test the FW on live boxes

The problem is to much firmwares messing with our ps3 os and bios all the time...thats the major problem. Why? Because even if the game have some problem on coding (and i can agree with Sheepdoctor on that), testing this firmwares for a longer time before keep releasing then could have prevent this from happening. But nooo they need to keep making us download this firmwares with useless updates. And YES, even this new 3D thing is useless right now. Can be the bomb in the future but they didnt need to rush on this. They could have worked a bit more and released the firmware when they new tv's really reach the market.

But they probably gonna say this frequently updates its for security...yeah right, like every time you update your system you keep fliping a coin to see how the security its gonna work for you this time.

Security and fixing flawed code and optimizing. That's what bios-upgrades are. Sometimes only security, sometimes only bugs. No updates would be even more scarier (been into software, I know).

yeah, security, right.Removing otheros, adding facebook, adding icons on the xmb and such..it's nice to know that with a 56k i have to update every 2-3 weeks, risking brick(thing that happened to lotsa pople),knowing that if it f*** my console i can't blame the all knowing and godlike sony because i accepted an agreement that didn't left me any other choise,to have what?a couple of icons here and there,or some other almost unnoticeable change..yeah right.god bless you sony.Sigh.I love my ps3,but the sony policy is really making me think to just sell it.

Well my friend, every place i look for information on this, people that work with hardware and even software says that update on bios should be donne only if its really needed. I dont see a godlike reason for a update that brings me 3D for the tvs that they didnt even release yet.

All kinds of crashing since the update. Initially I didn't connect this with the update and was worried my hard disk was failing. I went and did the over kill thing by re-formatting my hard disk today, before reading the web postings. All those hours are gone : (
My current understanding is I should have first tried deleting game data.  Never the less it's my hope that the freezing stops. If not, hopefull the software fix will be release soon. I can stand to play through the game again.

I heard the patch will bring a new set of trophies:

Lucky: Completed an origin story without crashes

Fast Killer: Killed 100 darkspawn between 2 freezes

Interrupted: had a freeze during a romance with Morrigan

Lol I like.

I wouldn't mind a freeze there ;) Posted ImagePosted Image

Well don't always believe just the official notes. All those updates have stuff under the hood. Also, do not for one second think that the current version (well...let's say the previous one...eheheh) is "ok". It's filled with bugs and 100% stupidity. That's software for you. It might work, but it could work a hellawa lot better. Skill comes in when you make updates that don't screw things up. Updating the bios isn't like throwing a coin if it's done properly. Then you only need to worry about blackouts and stuff (which will cause serious problems), but normal updates should go ok. The flipping coin is the installing part. End results is the problem right here.

Last night I was able to use a character for hours with no problem. I made a new character today and the freezes are less than five minutes apart. I really can't understand how they would make an update this flawed without fixing it immediately. I guess I'm used to the online game I played where something like this would be fixed right away.

This must be really embarrassing for Bioware. Seriously, how long does it take to correct an error of this size which they made to fix something else in the first place?

How long has this thread been going? A while now if I remember correctly. What's the deal?

Ignorance isn't always bliss... They found a potential workaround. They're testing it as we speak.

It's not (only) Biowares fault. It all started with the firmware update. And I still strongly believe that the fix will come out right before the DLC is available!

even if sony sits on it bioware can release it here and we can install using a flash drive like how they added the one update on the awakening disc
