as far as i go, i have owned both, and so far, the ps3 is definately a better built and reliable system, with more features built in. the xbox does not have blueray, and you have to buy the wireless internet adapter. also, the xbox has a habit of "sh*tting the bed", and just failing to work for no reason lol.
but, how much value can you assign customer support? when xbox screwed up on the mw2 map pack, they immediately admitted it, posted info on the xbox live service, and fixed it within days. sony, on the other hand, chooses to deny their faults, and refuses to assist with the resolution of problems. granted, you have to pay for xbox live, but you definately get what you pay for.
and on a side note, when it comes to online games, there are more players on xbox live than there are on playstation network, so you have access to more full games at all times.
don't get me wrong, i am on the fence with this issue as well.....just trying to decide if superior craftsmanship outweighs superior customer support and player base.......

I doubt your old harddrive was broke! It is not possible to move a harddrive from an "old" ps3 to a new one! The new system will automatically ask you to format before you can use it. This is because your old hd is linked/"married" to your old system! In order to move "old" data to a new ps3 you would have to backup everything to an external hard drive first even if you want to move the old hd. Hope this makes sense. And the problem with Dragon Age is that the save game files cannot be copied or saved. I found that out the hard way myself!Orious wrote...

There is more out like that on the net btw.
I had a crash like that a long time ago - not with DAO though, but Singstar - and took the ps3 off the power for 10 minutes, then it worked again.

With one of the "wonderful" sony firmware updates (3.15) we got an option to transfer data from one system to another by etherlink cable. With this new "wonderful" option you're suppose to be able to transfer everything (even non-copy games and downloaded content) from your old ps3 to your new system.Orious wrote...

I dont have any friends with fats, all have slims...is there anyway to copy the old saved games from the fat hd to the slim hd? or even verify the fat hd is still working? Most saved games i dont care about losing, the only 1 that required a lot of hours is dragon age ( i was just about to do the trademeet thing when this happened).
http://blog.us.plays...oftware-update/
However, I have tried it, and it worked all the way up to 56%. Then the whole thing froze. I waited... and waited... and waited because I thought it may just be stuck on a large file, but nothing happened anymore. So I interrupted the transfer and wanted to start from new. That wasn't possible, because - are you ready for this? - the stuff that had already been transferred to the new system had already been deleted on the old ps3!! I had made a copy of my old save games before, the ones you can copy, eg. WWE Smackdown vs. Ray 2010. Creating all the characters in this game was a lot of work, so I was happy I at lease got that on a thumpdrive. DAO I would live with because I had already finished it a few times, and was creating new characters all the time anyways. But WWE and GTA VI I was hoping my saved stuff was able to be transferred. After setting up the new ps3 (had to format because of the little bit of data that was transferred from my old one), I inputted my thumpdrive and went to copy. The message I receieved was something like "not all data will be copied because of the different system". All I got was my pictures and the music. No saved games, nothing else!! Googled and found out why: Things you copy on your ps3 are only good for THAT particular system because everything is hooked/clinged to that system and cannot be moved to another one.
Hope that helps and I hope I made your day!

So..... i had the same problem as all you folks, but with most of my ps3 games as well. I called up sony, asked then if they were aware of this problem, they said no. I said really cause there are hundreds of people on many different forums saying that they are having this issue. To this she responded.... " We have millions of people with PS3's, if only a small group of these people are having an issue, its not a big enough problem to address." So if your waiting for a fix all patch.... it doesn't sound like it is going to happen. Oh and then she says, " Hey lets try some trouble shooting and maybe it will help." Now that she has helped me "trouble shoot" my problem my PS3 went from freezing during games to not see the disc at all.... Thank Sony! Grade A trouble shooting!! After I told her that now my disc drive doesn't work at all she tells me, " Well sounds like you need to send it in and that will be $148." All I have to say is hello Xbox 360.
If your on a fat system and are a little tech savy can change the blue-ray drive yourself for about half the cost.

That's because every ps3 encript data with it's own algorithm, aaaanyway, back taking about sony...Downgrading?Woah,i'd like that:\\\\
Still, customer service is a real ripoff, afaik they could be willingly break some ps3 with each update letting the "maliciouse"code work only on some of them.Hey,i mean,i would do that. You subscrive a contract saying that if my firmware break your ps3 is your fault, not mine, and since even changing the ps3 logo under the dvd reader seems to cost more than a new heart...
btw,can someone link the "downgrade discussion" page?I can't find it on the ps3 forum

Thanks for your patience with all of this.
Since this happened, we've pulled additional programmers from the main game teams to help on this and have been running several parallel investigations non-stop to find potential solutions from our end, as well as continuing to work with Sony for both dev support and other options.
Thanks to the great feedback on here and from those folks we've been in contact with directly, the team now thinks we've been able to find a code-side workaround from our end to patch DA to play nicer with firmware 3.3, which was one of our investigation threads.
At this time I still don't have a date estimate for a DA patch with this fix however, and unfortunately we do not believe there is a manual workaround for this (one of the other threads we're investigating).
We are currently testing this proposed code change as I write this, and if successful the next step will be for it to go into EA's publisher side certification testing. They are aware of the importance of this and will give this priority in the queue of titles/patches across EA. And once that clears, it will go into Sony cert testing.
Sorry, wish I had better news to offer already - but progress is being made and I'll continue to update as we know more.
Thanks for keeping us informed of progress.

It didn't work for me... It seems like there are times it takes longer till it freezes, and then it freezes like every 5-10 minutes.Fei Wong wrote...

personally never had 5-10 min crashes usually i can play fine for 40 mins or more.I never play online and always leave at least 1 inventory slot empty:| problem is,i just may be lucky
Sounds similar to my playing/freezing experiences. It's weird though cuz my wife plays on the same system (different profile) and crashes every 10 - 20 minutes.

I tried disabling the net connection from the network settings...and then I turned off the auto save feature. I was able to play Awakening for like 2 hours without it freezing BUT the music gets funky (gets cut off, so it gets eerily quiet) and the game runs a bit slower.
My heart keeps jumping every time the music gets cut off I tell ya. XD
Anyway, thanks for the reply Bioware! I'm rooting for you!

yeah, DAO is unfortunately 1 of the few games where transfering save files isnt supported. im not sure how you could test your hdd without another fat, if you trawl google there may be some freeware for pc testing of ps3 hdd status, but im pretty sure its fine matey, tis the same as your pc motherboard going bump. the hard drive is normaly fine.
bottom line tho, unless you get another fat thats the same model as your last 1(exactly the same as 40, 60 and 80 fats vary in firmware. so a first gen 40gig fat will have different fw to a second gen 40 fat) you will never get that save file back.
sorry man.
DAO kicked me in the testies again last night, put it on for 1 more try and was pleasantly met with the smoothest version of the game ive ever played!!! was helping the dalish with the wherewolves in ze forest, conversations where smooth, loading decent and not a bit of slowdown in battle! then it froze after 40 mins whilst talking to the elder tree =(. poo.

Only things you have to keep in mind are: You need an external HDD in order to perform the backup operation, the new drive must be a 2.5" drive and should be 5400 rpm as 7200 rpm does little but increase heat production.

if memory serves me correctly theres an official sony patch on the website to help with hdd replacement.(im planing on wacking a 500gig 2.5 sata II in my fat, and according to game station this dosnt invalidate my warrenty! you cant do that with a 360 lol)
but if your having problems, take a look.
Why do you compare the PS3 and 360 in almost all of your posts?

Bioware has confirmed that there is nothing we can do on our end to solve the issue. We will have to wait for the patch to be made available through the PSN. This can take some time.

As long as you do the change on the same system it is okay. Putting an old drive into a new/different ps3 is a problem!!Astoroth wrote...

Yep, that is indeed a problem and I don't really see the reason for it. DLCs are tied to PSN-accounts so that can't be it. Copy-protected save games (as in DA), well - that's one of the dumber ideas that has actually been implemented, that I've ever encountered.
