As we all know they changed something so that 3D Games/Movies would be supported and something that allows them to control us(while connected).

They've also changed something about trophies display.
http://blog.us.plays...oftware-update/

Since some people can play for hours w/o freezes while beeing disconnected(like myself)

Since disconnecting yesterday I'm yet to witness any freeze. That would be about 8-10 hours of gameplay.

We're talking with Sony but this is a bit out of the blue for us as to why it is affecting DA (this is a sony hardware update).

Could I ask if this is affecting you to include some more details...
- Are you playing Origins or Awakening disc (or DLC version)
- Which Sony region are you in
- Could you check a different title on your PS3 to confirm if this is DA only

Thank you.

Origins without Awakening installed.
Sony region... Europe,Germany
Other titles works, playing WKC  right now.

The most important thing now for me is to know if BioWare have and idea, where the problem is.

Its a relief for me that it is not broken PS3 but anyway i want to play this game, cause i paid for that.

Im waiting till someone from Bioware will say something. They posted questions about general informations but now i guess all of us want to know if they have idea how to fix this issue.

DA:O with retail version of Awakening installed, in Region 1/North America and haven't experienced any other games having issues, actually it seems one game, MLB10 The Show has actually had an issue fixed regarding the console resetting randomly when you quit the game.

EDIT: Okay the issue with MLB10 The Show wasn't fixed, just had it happen. >_>

Playing in the UK

Dragonage with all downloads, no issues with freezing untill after the update

It seems constantly saving after an auto-save stops the freezing along with leaving the game for an hour before playing.

:\\ sucks to be honest.

My PS3 started crashing after the new sytem update as described in other posts. Don't let anyone tell you its a hardware issue. It does it on all the PS3 models old and new. I can thank EA support for insisting that I install this time bomb firmware that can't be easily undone. All part of repeated contacts with EA support over the DLC which remained VERY unresolved. This is new crash/freeze issue was so timely EA! I had just bought the Combo Feastpack which fixed this DLC issue. (BTW) EA knows buying DLC fixes the long running DLC problem and I would not be suprised if marketing issues were delaying the real patch!

So end result is as follows:
The EA Song and Dance
Congress in Washington DC could not have done better!

1) I spend a lot of money for a game and expansion.
2) Surprise - Included DLC does not load or operate as promised.
3) EA support wastes my time and more money to try to access DLC I already purchased.
4) EA support instruction lead to corruption of my entire PS3 EA game files.
5) EA support continues to blame customers hardware and ISP connections.
6) Promises are made to again address a general server issues that may be the culprit.
7) A miraculous fix appears that involves buying more DLC content. (Feast Day Combo)
8) Just when I think the pain is over and can enjoy DA - I realized I was really sucker punched again when EA support insists I apply firmware update 3.30. (
9) Now my PS3 console freezes every few minutes if I try to play DA.

I sit here waiting for the next shoe to drop -
Sony's is not the guilty party here - EA Bioware should have tested in advance of the system update and how it affects their products. Some games work just fine with 3.30.

Is anyone else sufficiently outraged by this kind of treatment?

Yes, my experience has been almost identical to yours. I'm ready to go back to pc gaming and I'm not buying any more EA/bioware games.

Im not sure why everyone is blaiming Bioware for this mess up with DAO when the firmware update 3.30 is what caused this issue.  A lot of you keep talking about how Bioware should hae tested their game before 3.30 was released.  Um as far as i know Sony does not have to tell game devs that they are updating thier firmware for things that involve the ps3 itself, let alone the ability to just prep the system for 3D gaming and such.

As with previous firmware updates on the ps3 that had caused game issues, Sony eventually released a firmware update to fix what the previous firmware update had messed up.

Now as far as the DLC not working for DAO that is something Bioware has to fix.  Although i would not know what the big issue is because my DLC has worked since day one.

If you guys are so upset with the fact that your ps3 keeps freezing while playing DAO then you all need to call/contact SONY themselves about the issue, and do NOT let them tell you its up to DAO to fix.  Their firmware is what caused this issue and you need to make them understand that they need to fix whatever the issue is.  If you feel the SONY support rep is not giving you the service you expect to hear then ask for a supervisior.  Its amazing how people always fail to take your complaints to the next level if a customer service rep is not giving you the service you think you should have.  i know for a fact anytime i feel a customer service rep is not addressing my issue i ask to speak to a supervisior.  if the supervisior still doesnt address my issue i take it to the next higher level, which usually is contacting corporate themseveles.  A lot of times supervisiors will do anything they can to keep you from contacting corporate, especially if you have their names on hand to give to corporate when you speak to them.

With software integration, you never can tell. Suppose Sony just flat out busted something in the firmware, and it is in a part of the system most games don't use. Not only would that be Sony's problem to fix, but Bioware could be completely incapable of fixing it or working around it. Suppose Bioware was using an existing interface in a way they were never supposed to in the first place, and it caught up to them when Sony changed something. That would be entirely Bioware's fault, and problem to fix. Sitting at home, we have no idea whose problem it is to fix. All we can do is provide them with as much information as possible to help them narrow down the problem, and hope it gets fixed soon.

That doesn't mean you need to be happy about it. We can be pretty sure it isn't *our* fault. And you'd be well within your rights to keep pressure on both Bioware and Sony until somebody takes responsibility and fixes it. But that's different from assuming you know what is going on, and/or being rude.

For the last few days I have been reading this forum and SONY's to see how v3.30 was coming along.  Having DAO, rto and DAA plus DLC extras (Shale, Peak, items) I was very worried about upgrading. So I went to the Sony site and downloaded the update to a USB stick "TWICE" then ran a content compare of the two files.  They were identical.  Then I upgraded from the USB stick.  Then proceeded to change my theme colour, update the time from the internet, copy files from the PHOTO, MUSIC, VIDEO folders to the USB stick and played a few demos.  Nothing unusal happened.  I started DAO the startup seems a little cleaner esp. when I pushed START the first time.  Had to wait my usual 15 minutes to check saved data.  I resumed my game play and went about my merry way.  The animations seems to be perky not slugish as I remember.  So the moral of my story is ..... so far so good.  Try the USB stick and re update if Sony allows that.

DAO collectors ed all dlc apart from awakening
UK

has played fine for the first 15 hours just had the cut seen with the assassin in then did update the game now crashes every 4 - 20 mins it seems to be when it is trying to load something up or even when it is saving have tried to go and do the return to ostagar lvl and it is just impossible having to save constantly between every fight as it is guaranteed to crash before, in the middle or just after a fight. only got the game last week after a friend nagging me to get it and have loved every min till the update screwed it up hope it gets fixed soon

I wrote to Sony about the problem that most everyone here seems to be having.
(Incidentally, my game started freezing after about ten or fifteen minutes of gameplay.  Now it's down to about one...!)   They said it wasn't anything to do with them or the OS update and said I should contact EA.  So I live-chatted with an EA support person and they informed me there's no problem they know about and recommended I simply get a new disc.  I have my doubts that will fix the problem.  I've not had a PS3 for long, so I don't know how common or uncommon my experience with this is, but something still smells distinctly of b.s., as far as I'm concerned.

Well it definately has nothing to do with your hardware itself(at least it didn't till the point where you updated your PS3). Those answers are simple what they always say. Oh and don't curse the support. Most probably they really don't know of any problem. They're not payd to know anything just to answer(at least most of them, except maybe tech support).

Anyways whatever you do do NOT buy anything new or pay for an unnecessary repair.

I so hope that Sony will fix this mess quite fast.

I don't know what you are all using for settings and everything, but I was having the same problems as everyone else, US PS3 60GB 3.30FW, with DAO standard copy along with the blood armor, castle (the storage one), and golem DLC. I'm using an HDMI cable and had my display settings to 1080p. At the suggestion of a friend, I used custom display settings to the max res for DAO (720p) and haven't had any problems in the mages tower for the last hour. Hope this helps.  Scratch that in the time it took to type this out it froze.

Game: Dragon Age Orgins (+ all game addons + Awakenings) (UK)

System:
Playstation 3 120GB (UK)

Firmware Version: 3.30

Problem:
Game freezing randomly

Happens in Both awakenings and DAO.  Sometimes its just a game hang, other times its a full consol freeze.  When only the game hangs its often possible to hit the PS button to return to the menu, then return to the game when it sometimes unfreezes again.

When the full system freezes, it eventually leads the PS Crashing and rebooting.

Thats the most ridiculous s**t that idiot EA support person could come up with, despite all the people reporting the same issue on this post 100+ he dares tell you to simply get a new disc. This shows how EA doesnt give a s**t about customers

So, Sony gave me the same canned response about how this is EA's fault, and I'm not even going to talk to EA.
I don't want to wait around just to have some shmoe at a contact centre tell me that I should buy a new copy of the game or wipe my PS3.

Anyway, here are my stats for this information-gathering project.  I really hope Bioware gets on it Monday morning:

Region: 1
Game: DA:O w/ all DLC
Crashing: Only Dragon Age: Origins.  All my other games play fine.
And I'm about to go onto the rooftop, so give me a break here, I want to finish my first playthrough!

Patch, patch, patch!

Okay, an update to my previous post-problem.  I reviewed my exchange with the EA support person and found something I missed the first time around--a recommendation to delete saved game data, in case there was a corrupted file somewhere.  Though I wasn't terribly scientific in my approach to this recommendation, so far it does seem to have worked .  Basically, I dumped all saves I had since doing the Sony 3.30 update.

(If it has fixed it for good, it's not been ideal, as I've lost a couple of levels in the process, though it was either that, go out and buy a memory card to back everything up, or pay whatever "nominal" fee to whomever to get a new disc.)

The checking saved data process (or whatever it's called) now also takes a fraction of the time it had been taking before.  And, come to think of it, I do think I remember canceling the update process once before doing it fully this time around.  Don't know if it could've been that or...(total stab in the dark here, as I've not read really read up on it yet, just a headline or two)...something to do with the whole McAfee debacle from last week...?
