Just as everyone else, I hit the freezing starting with firmware 3.30 (40GB PS3 unit). Signing off of the Playstation network didn't help, but it appears that turning off sustained magical effects (e.g., Telekinetic Weapons, Arcane Shield) is playing a big role. Specifically, I'd hit the problem very quickly with Arcane Shield on. Might be related to the extra graphics burden with those shimmering effects.

Oh thank god it isn't just me... I hope -someone- gets it fixed because I -really- love this game. It's damn near the only one I play. >.

Game: DA:O + Awakenings and all DLC
System:Playstation 3 Slim 120 GB(US/Can)
Firmware: 3.30
Problem: Game freezes very randomly. :(
Other: Have not played any other games yet, will try some.

WTF...us PS3 users keep getting the shaft. We have to wait for RTO which doesn't import into the expansion...the new equipment in DA:A is bugged. Now the game is utterly unplayable. Tried changing video settings thinking that was it until I read this. Then, I tried disabling my network connection and still freezing.

Perhaps an interesting data point, which would suggest against the idea that this has to do with some sort of rendering problem, complex scenery, etc. etc. I had built up enough patience to try again for the first time in a few days. Played for an hour or more without any problems (frame rate seemed a bit choppy, but no hangs). Even beat the dragon for the first time - rawr! Looted tons of stuff from the dragon, so went back to camp to clean up my overburdened inventory.

Hung twice. Within about 5-10 total minutes. (And yes, you better believe I saved as soon as the dragon was dead heh) Both times I was in the menu system shuffling equipment and so on. No 3D rendering on the screen at all. That used up my patience, so I shut it off after that. But I'd be pretty surprised if whatever it was is tied to the complexity of the scenery.

Yet more proof that Bioware doesn't seem to give a crap about us.

For the last few days I have been reading this forum and SONY's to see how v3.30 was coming along. Having DAO, rto and DAA plus DLC extras (Shale, Peak, items) I was very worried about upgrading. So I went to the Sony site and downloaded the update to a USB stick "TWICE" then ran a content compare of the two files. They were identical. Then I upgraded from the USB stick. Then proceeded to change my theme colour, update the time from the internet, copy files from the PHOTO, MUSIC, VIDEO folders to the USB stick and played a few demos. Nothing unusal happened. I started DAO the startup seems a little cleaner esp. when I pushed START the first time. Had to wait my usual 15 minutes to check saved data. I resumed my game play and went about my merry way. The animations seems to be perky not slugish as I remember. So the moral of my story is ..... so far so good. Try the USB stick and re update if Sony allows that.

Where are all the Bioware guys anyway? Are they working on this or sitting around havin' coffee and doughnuts?

Are you playing Origins or Awakening disc (or DLC version)

Hard disk Orgins, i have DLC but that doesn't work right now and tech support is working on it. (shale and blood armor)

- Which Sony region are you in

USA

- Could you check a different title on your PS3 to confirm if this is DA only

So Far it's only DA: Origins, i only have 2 other games though. For me it happens all over the game. So far i have frozen in the following places: Denerim, circle of mages, walking on the map, in redcliffe, a few other key fights (don't want to give too many spoilers) but for me it is clear it is totally random and not by location.

1). DA:O, no DLC

2). US

3). Other games are working fine.

Its crashed in battle, when i was just walking, when i was in my inventory screen...doesnt seem to be any one thing causing it.

1) DA:O and Awakening plus all DLC except the feastday stuff

2) US

3) I'm having trouble loading FFXIII as well

I had no issues at all prior to the 3.3 update. All games ran smoothly. Now, DA:O freezes up every 20-30 minutes or so. I've tried disconnecting from the internet with no results.

so i tried deleting all my save files, mind you i had only played the game for about a week, so I didn't lose much, but perhaps you can back up your given save files, delete them off your drive and play new for a while? i have had no issues with freezing since. Ugh that's a hard pill to swallow though, cause i totally get dumping a hundred hours and losing it (here's to you Final Fantasy 7 frying my playstation one and memory cards on at least 3 occasions).

I tried the idea of uninstalling the game data, reinstalling it, and the DLC. Was good for about half an hour then it locked up again.

So I guess all I can do is wait for a solution to come.

My PS3 started crashing after the new sytem update as described in other posts. Don't let anyone tell you its a hardware issue. It does it on all the PS3 models old and new. I can thank EA support for insisting that I install this time bomb firmware that can't be easily undone. All part of repeated contacts with EA support over the DLC which remained VERY unresolved. This is new crash/freeze issue was so timely EA! I had just bought the Combo Feastpack which fixed this DLC issue. (BTW) EA knows buying DLC fixes the long running DLC problem and I would not be suprised if marketing issues were delaying the real patch!

So end result is as follows:
The EA Song and Dance
Congress in Washington DC could not have done better!

1) I spend a lot of money for a game and expansion.
2) Surprise - Included DLC does not load or operate as promised.
3) EA support wastes my time and more money to try to access DLC I already purchased.
4) EA support instruction lead to corruption of my entire PS3 EA game files.
5) EA support continues to blame customers hardware and ISP connections.
6) Promises are made to again address a general server issues that may be the culprit.
7) A miraculous fix appears that involves buying more DLC content. (Feast Day Combo)
8) Just when I think the pain is over and can enjoy DA - I realized I was really sucker punched again when EA support insists I apply firmware update 3.30. (
9) Now my PS3 console freezes every few minutes if I try to play DA.

I sit here waiting for the next shoe to drop -
Sony's is not the guilty party here - EA Bioware should have tested in advance of the system update and how it affects their products. Some games work just fine with 3.30.

Is anyone else sufficiently outraged by this kind of treatment?

DAMN RIGHT!!!!

PS3 Slim 250gig

DA:O with Stone Prisoner and Feast day DLC.

Freezing is very random, anywhere between 15 minutes to 2 hours. Seems to happen less when offline. More so in outdoor environments.

Bought the game 2 days ago, thankfully I can return it in a week if need be.

Complete system freeze ups, at variable times

Rock Band froze once, so a possible trophey update issue? (when will they learn)

Hope this helps.

Sane here. Never had a problem playing it before but now after getting the 3.3 firmware update, the game freezes every 5 mins or so.

Very annoying, in fact so annoying that I can no longer even play the game.

Is anyone trying to fix this problem? HELLO?????

Origins
PS3 slim. Recently purchased
West Coast Region
Game freezes every 3-5 mins. Have to reboot.
Was working just fine before firmware update
No other games affected

In fairness, this is a sony update problem. Dragon age is not the only thing suffering from it, but seems to be one of the worst. Bioware have already said they are talking to sony about it but it seems to me it's up to Sony to fix this one, leaving Bioware to fix the million other bugs in the game.
