Now, I find that Dragon Age: Origins freezes after less than an hour of gameplay (sometimes it will freeze within the first 5 minutes of gameplay after a previous freeze). Like everyone else, the PS3 completely locks up; I can't access the XMB, etc.
I used canned air on every vent I could possibly find -- not much dust anywhere; my PS3 is less than a year old -- and it still froze. I feared that my PS3 was defective or overheating.
...but other games didn't lock up. So I was confused. I looked at the disc under light for a good 10 minutes. No scratches, fingerprints, etc... game still looks brand new, and acts as a nice mirror!
Now, I can see that it's just a regression due to the new firmware. I'm happy that a patch is going to be released next week. I really hope that it addresses this game breaking problem. I've noticed that it only occurs while I'm moving the camera, so maybe it's some texture loading glitch. I've noticed that the game cannot 100% keep up with texture loading when moving the camera; you see brief moments of white in some places before a texture loads (I'm running the game in 720p, so your experience may differ at lower/less demanding resolutions), so I know the game loads textures when you are moving the camera.
For now, I'm going to try to play more, even with crashes. I just want to be done with this game, tbh; I'm having a hard time enjoying it due to a few design quirks that bug me.
Does anybody know if reinstalling the game mitigates the problem at all?
