 After playing Awakenings, I think that I, as well as a few others, really dug the antagonistic chemistry Velanna and Nathaniel.  The whole "kiss kiss, slap slap" thing might be cliche, but for some reason, even the hint of it between those two was very entertaining for me.

I was thinking I would totally love to see something in future games where the players could play matchmaker to two of their companions.  The closest thing I think we've seen to that was helping Oghren reunite with Felsi, but that's... well, that's like one conversation long and I couldn't really care THAT much.  What if it was a subplot with as much attention paid to it as a main character romance?

... at the risk of enraging like, the ENTIRE forum, wouldn't it have been interesting if you could have explored a tension between Morrigan and Alistair?  Sten and Leiliana?  Love triangles that dangerously distract your party members from their mission?  In that case, it might give you extra motivation to resolve things quickly.

People might think it would be creepy to play a character that fixates on two other people getting laid, but c'mon.  So many subcultures on the internet are already devoted to pairing up their favorite characters from books, games, and shows.  What if a game actually allowed you to resolve an interesting love triangle the way YOU wanted to?

Yeah, Velanna hates humans too much to have a healthy romantic relationship with them. And just because there's tension between two people (and I just don't see it between Leliana and Sten) doesn't mean that they'll be able to have a decent relationship. Lots of angry sex, yes. Will they make it in the long-run? Doubtful. Especially Alistair/Morrigan since Alistair as King can only be with a noblewoman and Morrigan won't stay with anyone at the end.

Well, there are no true love triangles per se. There's ones you can put yourself into (romancee 1 becomes jealous of romancee 2), but not ones that spontaneously occur. BG2 has the interesting thing where if you were romancing Aerie, Haer'Dalis would flirt with her too. Eventually, Haer'Dalis got so furious and jealous over the matter that he challenged you to a duel. BTW, it was possible to resolve things and keep him in the party while bringing her romance to completion, but you could also end up with him dead or leaving the party in a huff. (You also had the option, I think, to give up on her and let him have her. But no one ever took that.)



I know this is separate to your point, but yeah, it would be interesting if this became a dramatic plot problem in future games. Where romancing one companion becomes a problem, because another is jealous of you doing so and wanted him/her first. And maybe even starts challenging you over it, maybe even making a point of that it's wrong for you as the leader to be romancing him/her, and s/he keeps challenging you over it.

Regardless, maybe those examples don't work for you. Leiliana and Sten was obviously a stretch. But wouldn't it be interesting if that came up?

Yeah, perhaps Velanna is too messed up to have a healthy relationship. In your opinion. In which case, if it was an option, you could totally nix it by befriending Nathaniel and asking him to look at it realistically.

Anyway, I'm just throwing ideas around. I know people won't agree with me, but I think I actually might be more entertained by shaping the romance of two fully flesh out and voice acted characters. Just as a new direction in a game.

I agree with the op. Inter-companion romance would be an interesting and revealing experience. It's very meeh that only the PC gets to romance companions, who stand up in a line and wait to be picked.

Yea I would like that. However, I think the romances for the main char are more important; I wouldn´t like having to bring all the guys in the party together and then being alone in the end.

Especially Leliana has to be reserved for me^^

I think it would be interesting. I always got the feeling that Leliana had a passing interest in Alistair (isn't there an option to stand aside or something?) and it has the potential to amp up tension. You know, you get Persons X and B together, you do something that would normally ****** X off but B wouldn't care, but since they're together B gets all huffy.

I think it would make things a LOT more interesting. The party dynamic of a male PC "competing" with Alistair over Morrigan or Leliana would be so much more complicated.



And god, can you imagine the catfights over Alistair if Morrigan actively went after him with a fem PC in the picture?



At the same time it kinda runs the risk of getting a bit over the top and turning DA into a soap opera...but if its done well it could be a lot of fun imo!

hahaha You gotta be joking. Alistair a competition?

I would imagine my PC competign with Sten over Morrigan, but definately not Alsitair, she wouldn't even consider it.

Oh obviously not the way he was written. I'm just saying, hypothetically, if he was written to be competition for the male PC, it would completely change the group dynamic (for the better imo) as far as drama is concerned!

Competing over a love interest just sounds far too troublesome. I'd probably back off and let the other person have a shot before it got nearly serious enough for me to really care to 'win.'
