I have heard that no one likes Jacob Taylors or he isn't so popular. Why?

Jacob was a grave friend in the game (Other than Garrus!). I know you guys are mature enough not to hate him for his skin color, but probably because he isn't the most "special" or "exciting" character.

Miranda, she is just hot and has a interesting past

Jack, well her past is like a textbook!

Garrus, a humorous old friend

Samara, hot and is badass

Jacob, meh.

I can see he isn't the most exciting character but he is pretty funny at some points. I am very sad to see no "Jacob for ME3" signatures!

"We get loud, and spel drinks at the Citadel!"

Who doesn't love him!

I don't like him because he 'sneaks' into peoples cabins, talks like some sleazy criminal, then calls FemShep 'the prize' like an object.

But Garrus can come in while Shepard is taking a shower?

And Tali can come in while Shepard is taking Notes? (That is cold!)

They all interupt shepard, other than Miranda. She takes it to the engine room! YOU sneak up on her!

I guess alot people hate him over his romance which supposedly is really bad (I wouldn't know, I always play as a dude) but I thought he okay. I put him up there with Garrus and Wrex as "buddy" characters.

I am using a female shepard right now. I am picking between Thane or Garrus.

I never even thought about Jacob.

Maybe Jacob was ment to be hated.

He's just plain and simple boring. Flat character, or perhaps it's the stereotyped african-american-dude-acting i've seen in 892,631 movies. He's a great asset on the battlefield, but i find myself yawning thru the dialogue...

It's what he says, and how he says it. Which is not good because I thought his character as a whole was the easiest to like because he was just a good bloke trying to do the right thing.

That romance scene though just sucked, and it sucked hard.

It's not hatred towards Jacob, not really. It's just that romance scene, it's terrible.

Dunno about the romance (I've yet to start my femShep runs) but as a male I think he's just in the "grey zone" it's not that I dislike him, he's simply not very interesting, he was barely featured in any media so he's not as popular as Miranda, Thane or Grunt and his backstory while entertaining wasn't anything special either.

TBH I liked and still like Kaidan better.

Jacob is not the greatest squad member, but he is OK as a character. I don't see anything in him negative.

In Mass Effect, I only used Kaiden once, and that was on Eden Prime. Never did like him.

I use Jacob here and there. But I use Miranda the most.

I like Jacob. As a buddy to go spill drinks with.

However, I hate his romance. I hate Female Shepard's tone with him. If whoever wrote that thought women players wanted the aggressive flirting and a nice bod, then that person hopefully realizes how wrong they were.

He's often compared to Grunt and Jack as far as combat tactics go as well. He usually falls short.

I didn't hate him, but I never talked to him because my FemShep sounded like a **** around him. When I first talk to him, I was like "Down girl! Heel!". I just can't get over how she sounds around him, and it kind of pisses me off. If they didn't have her sounding like that, Jacob would be a-okay with me. Other than that, he's fine. I don't dislike him.

This.

Seriously, I liked Jacob well enough until the romance (sometimes RL is like that, too! lol)  It's not just the character of Jacob, FemShep comes off like a total stalker tramp.  Some people have said that much of Jacob's ham handed dialogue can be blamed on FemShep.  He does say "Well, if that's the way you want to play it, commander..."

The downside of that is that you can't really talk to him on the ship without skirting around the romance.  Unless you want to go down that road, you don't really get to know him.  Kaiden was like that, too, but that plotline was better written.

It also doesn't help that he's not the best character, tactically.  My adept would team up with him for pull/warp combos, but really, almost any other biotic is a better choice for that.

As someone who's played both MSheps and FemSheps, I always enjoyed Jacob more in a 'bromance' way as a guy to hoist a few brews with and talk sports down the local pub.

The romance from my POV (Male playing a Female Shep) felt too forced and I did not like how aggressivly you had to hit on him to get a romance going. Not that there's anything wrong with the female being the aggressive pursuer in a relationship mind you...

Jacob is one of those characters who has a ton of potential which, unfortunately, goes largely unexplored.

Not to mention that what he says after his loyalty mission, about Miranda needing a better man then him seemed like he would just settle for FemShep. Luckily I was romancing Thane at that point, so it didn't really matter.

I think people who play as male Shepard see a better character in Jacob. BioWare did a great job at not doing the usual steriotypical rapper talking type of black male. Instead they created a black character with strong principles and a good heart.

But I think its the female Shepards game that gives Jacob his bad name. BioWare aren't the best at writing romance sections, and this game they make it seem more like a modern day version of 'The Graduate'. Female Shepard behaves more like a dodgy milf, whilst Jacob walks around like he is player of the month.

Personally I think he is a much better character with a male Shepard story.

This. I like his character during cutscenes and when you don't speak privately to him. But I avoid him like the plague on my FemSheps.

Agreed 100%!

On my female shepard. I act like a total wh*re toward him and he enjoys it!

But with my male we are like what they call it "homiez".

I don't mind Jacob.  I prefer him over Kaiden and Ashley for sure.  Though he isn't the best on the battlefield for me, I never bring him.

That analogy is just full of win, FemShep as the dodgy milf and Jacob as The Gradutate?

Anyone up for rewriting the lyrics to 'Mrs. Robinson'?
