Hehe, yeah i felt a little bad for dissing the guy so i had to balance it up with something remotely positive - not entirely true though. I rarely use him at all...:innocent:

I think as a Paragon character i'd probably consider taking him in my team, but he didn't have near the attitude (impact) enough to match Jack and Zhaeed for my renegade character playthroughs, he's got the heart though for a good character to take along.

I freaking hate Jacob. He's rude to just about everyone you recruit,
Someone has to fill this role in the game though, question who we bring on the mission (or at least our decisions), it adds some tension to the mix at least.

On that same note, I also found Miranda really boring. She's entirely eye candy and the whole "I was made perfect but I'm still human thing" isn't really very compelling when you realise that's where all her depth ends.
The problem with romances (and people in general) in games, versus real life, is that in real life, we interact with people in far less mediated ways - we do things with them, have interesting conversations, share experiences, etc. In Mass Effect, you get dialogue trees and combat. The relationship is a bit one sided in that the player can't really respond to or initiate action or conversation; the player is wholly limited by what has explicitly been put into the game. In single-player, there is no shared experience, and so writing has to compensate... even things that are extraordinary in real life are mundane by game standards.

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favourite post on the forums.searanox wrote...
I liked him early into the game, but after coming across more interesting characters like Mordin, Jacob just can't really keep up with them. He's not a bad character, per se, just sort of boring and bland. It's hard to compete with aliens and psychics. I did enjoy his loyalty quest at least.

That said, he is a little bland. With a guns-first character, I can use him with Miranda (quick-set Pull-Warp grenade), but his abilities are nothing to write home about. I kind of got the impression that the writers stopped at, "Hey, let's put in a black guy, and he can be a love interest too!" I can dig that, but that's enough to make a character interesting. Good enough guy--just needs a little more "interesting" thrown in.

I plan on either doing him with FemShep and rejecting him after the main game is over OR romancing him and then rejecting him in the cabin...
I'm sorta curious what happens if you romance no one in ME 2. I killed off Kaidan in ME1 (hardest decision ever) so my FemShep would be free.

Anyone up for rewriting the lyrics to 'Mrs. Robinson'?
And here's to you, Cmndr. Shepard
Jacob wants to get inside your clothes (whoa, whoa, whoa)
Until he leaves, Cmndr. Shepard
He's got only creepy things to say
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)
He'd like to sneak into your quarters for a while
He'd like to help you learn to take the risk
Look around you, and you'll see that he just wants the prize
Dance around the topic---he just wants to bone
...And so on.

Yeah...the attitudes on these boards about Jacob really does'nt make too much sense. 2 adults mutually flirting with each other before sexy time garners all this hate...I dont buy it. So what, he calls her his prize....if people actually paid attention to all of Shepards and Jacobs dialouge throughout the romance, there was playful banter leading up to that night in the Captains quarters. Obviously the remark didn't bother Shepard because she jumped all over him.RhythmlessNinja wrote...
So, to sum this up, people don't like Jacob because femshep genuinely likes Jacob? And he happens to tell a joke before bedding her...and people take it literally, you guys are a trip lol. Not every romance has to be some sappy bs. Lol yay for variety. Anyway, Jacobs is a decent character...when compared to the background that is Kaiden.
As far as combat goes Jacob holds his own right next to Grunt, at least in my playthroughs.Hell Garrus is supposed to be so impressive yet he makes it a point to get himself killed at least twice a mission(insanity).
