Mass Effect 2 has so many romance options D:
I'm not saying it's a bad thing - it's really very good for the story that pretty much every squadmate is reasonably approachable as a romance option. It's just that I had a very hard time staying loyal to Ashley. xD

Being a male Shepard, at first I wanted to hit on Miranda. Through some reading up I did on the ME wikia I found out, though, that if you don't romance anyone in the game, you would stare at Ashley's picture before the final battle etc, indicating some sort of follow-up for ME3 (damn you BioWare you better give me one). Decided that was the path I was gonna choose. Little did I know that there were so many interesting romances to pursue in ME2.

Jack came around. Now, this is a girl I'd usually run like hell from IRL, but I read a bit about the story arc of the romance and I really, really wanted to give her a chance. Just, to feel love. And stuff.
Then came Tali. Well dammit. Checking a video of the romance I felt so tempted to romance her. Way, way cute. Bit of a clumsy weirdo. Kind of girl I'd run towards IRL.
Miranda wasn't interesting anymore at this point - I just wanted to bang her ingame for her looks. Storywise Jack or Tali were way more interesting.
I didn't really like Samara. Even though it's not a fully explorable romance option, I wouldn't have pursued her even if she was.

Rejecting Miranda was relatively easy - Jack was uncomfortable and Tali just made me feel bad. xD I just wanted to stay loyal to Ashley. Adds more to the story IMO. Due to the amount of characters in ME2 I felt that the individual ones weren't worked out as thoroughly as ME's ones. Didn't really get to know them as well as Ashley so I figured I'd stick with her, seeing as how she's nice and the romance story was quite fulfilling.

How did you experience all the romances in ME2? ;)

My story was similar to yours except I completely forgot about Ash when I found out Tali was a romance option, which was in-game for me.

I really wanted to stay loyal to Ashley. I really, really did. I thought it'd be kinda sweet to have a relationship that can withstand even considering all the crap that happens to Shepard.

Tali had other plans for me.

i was underwhelmed. i dislike miranda's attitude, naivete, and accent, so she was never appealing. jack seemed the most real from a "i know chicks like this" (substitute drugs or molestation for Cerberus abuse), and all was well until they screwed it up by making her too vulnerable too soon. and the fact she's a psychopath. after going through ME1 thinking i'd like to do Tali, by the time the possibility evolved in ME2, she was firmly in buddy territory and unable to appeal to my carnal side, especially with all the jargon-filled talks about biochemistry and how ****ing her could kill her.

why did you feel compelled to scout the romances before embarking on them?

I accidentally got into a romance with Jack, Tali and Miranda (But shut them down as soon as they came up.)  All I was trying to be was friendly. <_<

Polite conversation should not lead to romantic encounters. Please make it easier to steer clear of romance in future conversations BioWare.

My experience is very similar to your own. I went whith liara in ME1 but I had every intention of cheatin with miranda but after watching tali's romance right befor the game came out I started to have my doudts about miranda. After getting the game and doing tali's side quest and exploring her romance dialogue I was completely sold. In my alternate playthroughs I romanced jack and tali the most and ended up liking jack aswell. Not as mutch as I liked tali on my maine playthrough but I liked her enough to compete with liara. I did mirandas romance once but it failed in comparisen to jack and tali.

Garrus and thane were also fun romances to explore for the females. I liked them both equely but jacob and miranda definetly have the worst end of the romance plox. I tried romancing jack, samara, and tali with my femshep but when I started to come on to tali she called me a bosh'tet (giving me the friend zone), jack got pissed at me, and samara down right rejected me. That was one lonely femshep :(

Indeed.

I was very surprised how attractive Jack seemed to me.

before I had the game I was like "What kind of idiot would romance a bald freak?!"

How wrong I was..

I shnorked Liara in ME1 and then Miranda in ME2. I really only did the Liara romance because I thought you somehow had to, I'm not attracted to submissive yes-women like that at all, hence the interest in Miranda.

Honestly, though, I think it's retarded how basically everyone in the game wants to get in Shepard's pants. The LIs in ME1 made sense - you had a male and a female human (plus m/m f/f originally in there and then removed) and an Asari, a species who is known for mating almost exclusively with other species. Then in ME2, suddenly, you can do Quarians and Turians? WTF? Maybe I'm forgetting something here, but I don't recall there being a single example of an inter-species relationship in all of Mass Effect lore that doesn't involve Asari, and all of a sudden... this?

Agreed. I want Shepard to get friendly with the crew, but with potential LIs one nice comment and you're essentially in bed with them (exaggeration).

I might be slowpoking here, but noticed how there is certain pattern with LI's in Mass Effect 2?

Jacob and Miranda seems to be more into sex than others, Garrus and Tali (both being ME1 squaddies) wish to progress their established relationship with Shepard, and in case of Jack and Thane, both have already resigned in their lives (Thane prepares for his closing death, Jack has locked her personality inside the layers of abuse and violence), and now there comes Shepard, who invokes feelings both haven't felt for years, and they are understandably rather afraid of that.

I didnt find it hard staying loyal to liara, though i explored the other romance options just to see what they were like. Jack was the most touching. But before the final mission i made sure that i didnt have any other relationships as i want to stay loyal to liara more than anything else. Although, i would have loved to have seen a relationship with Samara...

Stupid romances consumed disc space - there were too many in my opinion, some bordering on ridiculous.
