Hi there,

     I have
the following heavy weapons to chose from:

-Missle launcher
                   -Grenade launcher

-Flame thrower
                   -Collector particle beam.

I am playing on insanity as
an infiltrator and I have Miranda and Jack
with me.   I beat this twice on hardcore and
found this part to be VERY difficult (though most of the game wasn't too
bad on hardcore) and I am
finding insanity to be quite challenging (as it should be).

So,
I'm on the collector ship @ the part you chose your loadout.  Which
heavy weapon should I use?  Any advice for
dealing with that praetorian?

Thanks!
Chris

None of the above. Position your squad on opposite sides of the comm tower and let the thing chase you around it (keeping just out of it's line of sight). It will exclusively targe you. Let you squad kill it.

Those weapons are useless. Try the Nuke Launcher next time. Although as an infiltrator you should be able to kill it easier and with less difficulty due to your cloaking and sniper rifle. Even Insanity should be easy to beat as an infiltrator. It was relatively easy as an adept too.

This is the collector ship praetorian. I dealt with the one on the colony (Freedom's Progress I think it was called) but it took me MANY tries.

@Polka -- I don't have that option yet. I tried the nuke thing last game once (against the end part of Samara's recruitment mission -- the big flying thing) and couldn't seem to live long enough for the thing to charge up. So I just used regular weapons. Is there some trick?

The merc boss is the end of Samara's recruitment. Sometimes firing the nuke gun can be difficult as the cloak is disabled while charging it (maybe to prevent double damage?). Im slightly confused though if you are on the collector ship you should have an easy shot at the praetorian with the nuke gun when it arrives? Anyways the trick to beating the Praetorian is to cloak and move behind cover far enough from the it to damage its shield and then you can start damaging its armor using your sniper rifle or heavy pistol. I think that is all you need to know.

First take out the enemies down bottom.  Find one of the columns down bottom.  Set your squad at the opposit side of the room with their distance weapons.  Lead the Praetorian around the column... keeping just out of sight.  This works.  It will focus only on you and your squad will take it out.

Incinerate is your friend at this point. As others have said, will only target Shep so stay out of range while incinerate charges, blast it and then keep moving. Your squad should be doing most of the damage here.

The missile launcher has the problem of chasing the wrong enemy for your first couple of shots. I say let it have the Widow until it puts up barriers, then switch to CPB.

Try to get in as many licks from the top of the room, as the praetorian can't hit you there. (you can kill it from there on lower difficulties, but for insanity, just try to do as much damage as you can before it gets around a corner and can get a shot at you.)

Haha, I just hate using heavy weapons. I'd rather get the 100 credits when I pick up the ammo.

The Cain is somewhat suckish. I had 180% ammo and tried to use it, and I couldn't get it charged up because it takes too long; meanwhile, I'm getting shot.

I like the Arc Projector.

Real men, misers, whatever.  We don't need no stinking Heavy Weapon for a silly Praetorian!  In fact, with patience and with live squadmates, we need not even fire a shot if we don't care to!

Seriously, killing the Praetorian isn't hard - just some people don't know the knack of SURVIVING the eye-beams of death.  Both Praetorian encounters are simply exercises in patience/tolerance and avoidance - we're not on a timer here.

I'd play bait for the Praetorian while my squadmates did the actual shooting. Keep them focused on the Praetorian while I'd use the arc projector for the husks and collectors. It's a lot of staying behind cover, running to the other side of the room and such. Eventually I get bored and bring out the SMG because it's just funnier that way. It takes awhile, but the thing never has killed me. Except that one time. And the other time.

I just wanted to point out that Collector Praetorian doesn't come out automatically from your respawn point. Plenty of time to take out a nuke gun, charge it up, walk forward, and then fry that sucker in a single shot. That's what I did.

Alright! I'm off the collector ship. I actually found the floating platform part WAY harder than Praetorian. Killed Praetorian first try -- tactical cloak works like a charm. The floating platforms easily took 10-15 tries. A lot of times I'd die in 15 seconds or so.

You do know that you can shoot further than what the targeting brackets tell you? And that even then the shots home on target if you were aiming close enough to the target.

I use a mix of AR/SMG and ML100 for the job. Former to shred the barrier down, the latter for the knockdown. If you have access to Warp, it also works very well.
