Definitely should have used This is the New **** by Marilyn Manson for the credits.

Man, you guys listen to some crappy music. I really feel sorry for your bad taste in music :(.

I just heard the song "This is War," and I have to say this is by far the worst song to put into an rpg.

I didn't stick around for the end credits because I always finish the game at night, so its naptime.

Also, I couldn't help but laugh at some of the people pasting lyrics to some lame-o song, which pretty much defines an emo.

I think the OP has a legit complaint, but a bad taste in music :D.

Anyways, they should've just put the intro music in the credits that would've pleased everyone.

My taste in music is diverse, so you can't possibly say ALL the music I listen to is crap.;)

To name 6 very diverse bands I all like equally:

Racer X, Equilibrium, Queens of The Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, Kasabian, Wolfmother.

Check out all 6 of them if you don't know them already and dare to tell me you disliked all 6 of them. I bet atleast one of these 6 is a band you will enjoy listening to.

You are right about Led Zeppelin...thats about it. :)  But really I doubt that kind of music would fit..and would EA pay their fees..if that were possible...probably not. :D

I dont get why people are complaining about this. Its Just 30 secound to mars a band that isn't emo and just dresses emo. The song is out of place but who cares who the hell watches the credits in the first place. They could of done alot worse on the credits and besides i gota wait along time before hearing it at first its just DAO music then later flips over to 30STM

Because this topic was created by a close minded individual who feels that his likes should be everybody's likes and disregards the subjectiveness of taste in such things as art, music, etc.  In other words, and opinionated snob.

Some, like the OP, decided to stay and listen to them and find something to complain about.. Or at least that's the on-going theory lol:lol:

It's too complicated!

But - when I first heard the song start playing, it was a bit weird to hear that instead of music from in-game but I liked the way it sounded.
It's a matter of taste when it comes to that, you can't bash people for liking whatever they like.
The genre did feel weird for the game, but the lyrics couldn't get more specific to what was going on in the game unless they started singing along about Alistair, Grey Wardens and lamppost licking.

Well, once I watched the credits, but that was before I realized that they're also printed in the back of the manual and you don't have to wait half an hour to find who you're looking for.

I wonder... what would be more appropriate? Orchestral? There were no orchestra's in 1200 either. This kind of feels like the arguments surrounding "A Knight's Tale" (a movie I rather enjoyed, by the way, for what it is).

Music doesn't have to fit the setting, but invoke emotion. In A Knight's Tale, the idea was to express to a contemporary audience how people of their time saw their own culture. In Dragon Age, This Is War is meant to invoke images of epic, world shattering conflict, and I think it does nicely, despite not being much of a 30 Seconds to Mars fan (mostly because I was forced to see them live and they are terrible live).

Hey, Fort, credit where credit's due, I always say ;)
FWIW, I am 44 and not really a 'fan', of the band but it sure didn't bother me I thought it was pretty good. Meh, I probably have rubbish taste in music, cos you know......... music isn't art and therefore isn't subjective it is science and therefore objective so we can definitely say without argument that each other's taste in music is garbage! /sarcasm
OR we can introduce my little friend 'tolerance', to the debate B):D

Okay, can someone explain me what the hell 30 Seconds To Mars is doing in the credits from Dragon Age Origins?
I just finished the game for the first time this week and I was really thrilled and exited after the awesome ending. But my exitement soon got smashed to the ground when '30 Seconds To Mars - This is War' starts playing while the credits start rolling. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS KIND OF CRAP MUSIC DOING IN SUCH AN AWESOME FANTASY GAME!?!?!:o

/rant

Good music is good music, whether it is Beethoven or Led Zeppelin. With some zillion other good stuff in the between. OP question is like asking what is a "lame" song like "Into The West" doing in the credits of the LotR-RotK trilogy.

Check out what most people say about "This Is War" in DA:O credits, with my own personal opinion in the description and comments, which I quote here:

Dragon Age: Origins - Credits - This is War (full song) Image IPB

Rolling Credits for Dragon Age, where the full song is played - Voice Talents list and some of our forum regulars listed too! Same LotR's EE DVD credits feeling when Annie Lennox sings "Into the West"!

Well, I am a musician, song writter, no biggie but I'm very critic about music and 30secs to Mars makes great songs. (see my oldest video here, though it's brazilian rock, some people like it!)

If people call it "emotional hardcore", so be it but they are still great songs. What about Led Zep, my all time favourite? No one screams like Robert Plant! Are they "emo" too?

Aww screw you Joey and Jynthor (especially you Jynthor, you little snob). Lifting on the "succes" of Darht Jayder's words. Lameeeeee.

But you correct you guys:

This topic was created by a totally and utterly bored individual that is part of a community where complaining about everything is rather the rule than the exception (that community is called BioWare Social Network). Out of boredom, this individual decided to complain about the gay music in the credits because he didn't see a topic about this just yet. Call it flame-bait if you will.

Anyway, I was pretty much successful in stirring up the place and creating a bit of drama, which is a great medicine against my boredom.

Personally, I like it when modern music is thrown into a fantasy.  Besides, Mansons 'New ****' song was used to push this game in the first place, so I don't see how this song is out of place at all.

Wow... that's just... wow.  It's kind of sad that billions of years of evolution conspired to produce you.  If this is what your life's come to, you're better off shaving your head and going to live with some monks.

There is a word for people who create drama to remedy boredom, I think it's "troll".

Wait for a second, Bioware adding something completely non-mainstream? I guess they will not be the first company to get a license to add some kind of classic from, let´s say, Deeds of Flesh; something like Hammer Forged Blade...

Billions of years? I thought God created us only 6000 years ago from a pile of dirt? Man, you know nothing about history don't you?

PS: No way that I'm gonna shave my precious hair! Being bald ain't metal man, that's totally not brutal.
