i found out that your dog is the best way to go when fighting the dragons in every encounter i had fighting even the last fight. my dog would be still standing. for Flemith and the dragon you fight after ringing the gong just keep doing attacks and heal if you get hit it sounds weird but it works. and as of the last boss keep everyone attacking most likely even with the other fights the dog will still be in the fight just run like crazy till you lose the monsters and fire the blasita till he drops. on my first playthrew i did this. funny thing is this cheese move does not take long nor does it take a lot of health items

You know that move where a dragon can pick up your tank , chew on it and kill it ? Dog is immune to those kind of moves ;)

Get a good enough armor and your warrior will also be immune to it :P
(he will get grabbed but will take negligible damage)

Flemeth never moves from her spot. You can pincushion her to death with arrows--it'd take you awhile, but it'll work.

As the poster above pointed out, a decent armor will protect your warrior. Or, basically, just level up enough for them to have the health to withstand that kind of move. Or, if you have a Spirit Healer in the group, use Lifeward.

Not that Dog isn't cool, but there's no need to feel locked into using him.

I love Dog, but I'd actually say he's one of the worst characters for the dragon because his armor is so low and he can't use ranged attacks. Shale works great for dragons, and a warrior can also do really well later in the game with a high armor value. Interesting tactic, though.

On easy maybe, but there is no negligible damage on nightmare mode :P

I found that for dragons Shale is the best all around tank, as she can not be picked up period. The dragon will knock Shale down for most of the fight but if you time your taunts you can keep the dragon on Shale and allow your DPS a free hand. No kiting and the only thing you have to do is micro manage the timing on the taunt.

Best way to kill a dragon is entropic death. Vulnerability hex and affliction hex from a high spellpower character (they scale with spellpower), then cast death cloud + death hex. If you have 2-3 mages you will kill the dragon in about 5-6 seconds.

I truly doubt this.

Let´s calculate: Entropic Death 200 + 2*SP damage.
Should make about 350 to 400 with high SP.

Affliction hex + Vulnerability hex make maximal 100%, and I´m not sure if they stack at all.

Makes for 700 - 800 Damage. However, Dragons resist about every 2nd spell and have good resistance, and 800 damage is far too less for a dragon to kill it anyways.

Imo the best way is: Tank in front, preferrably 2hand to prevent knockdown, healer to keep him alive, Archer and either a second archer or a backstabbing dualwield rogue.

Affliction and Vulnerability hex do stack.

You can get some pretty huge numbers out of Entropic Death. Using Wynne - Vessel of the Spirit, Spell Might & Spell Wisp you can get a spellpower around 180 to 200.

Makes the base dmg somewhere near 600. Add in +30% spirit dmg gear brings that up to 780. Add the two hexes and you can hit for around 1,300. But there is a chance the dragon will resist the hexes and or Death Hex. Fun to chain cast death hex!

Plus, I seem to remember that the dmg from Entropic death is all base on who casts the Death Cloud, not the hex. So have your highest spellpower mage cast that first.

Can two different mages cast consecutive Death Hexes on the same Death Cloud? Seems like they should, but I've never run two mages previously to verify.

Death Cloud is not removed when someone casts a Death Hex, so you can chain multiple Death Hexs into the same Cloud. Kind of like having multiple mages cast Horror when one opens with Sleep. That, but the way is very effective.

The dmg from Entropic Death is all based on the Mage who cast Death Cloud. So have your max Spell Power Mage open with Death Cloud and then have your other mages follow up with Death Hex. But there are easier ways to kill 99% of the critters in the game.

Dragons are trickey because they do resist either the Vul/Aff Hex or Resist the Death Hex.  Either with a really high spellpower.

I took a screen shot of dog with me fighting the arch demon. Thor did very well. Only went down twice and when the dragon's health got down, he stunned her. Then Al and I beat the tar out of her. I was amazed the dog did so well. If you want to complete dog's quest you have to take him on the final battle.

Ranged is the safe way to do it, at least on Nightmare I prefer to use full up melee on them though. One mage for healing, usually Shale to tank, DW rogue, and DW warrior slashing away at the flanks. I take more damage sure, but it's not anything a well built SH can't heal through. I've tried an extra mage for nuking purposes, but she got resisted so much I just switched her to healing too, which was overkill. Archers won't get hurt, but they do crap dps compared to dual wielders (pre awakening), I much prefer to take some slaps and finish the fight in half the time.

I found the two dragons that I killed so far very easy (on nightmare). Here's what I do: my tank (Alistair) confronts the dragon in melee, my two mages move some distance away. Alistair uses Taunt, then a mage casts Force field on him. I kill the dragon simply with my mages firing with their staffs, and whenever Force Field wears off, Alistair uses Taunt again (to make sure the dragon keeps attacking him) and one mage renews the Force Field. It almost feels like cheating, I hardly get a scratch.

Dog has a quest?  I play on 360 and never take him anywhere.

The Mabari Dominance "quest". At certain landmarks in different places Dog can mark territory which he will protect with a vengence. Dog also gets a stat bonus in that territory (+2 to strength, willpower and constitution). The final area where he can exert dominance is during the final onslaught in the Denerim Marketplace (overturned cart).

If you count the Archdemon, simply poison Arl Eamon again. He always seems to run up to the Boss to get chewed on for a while.... Posted Image

Nice tip on Dog. I was too apprehensive that Fire dmg would make for a Crispy Critter, and those Greater Salves are limited.

Increase Dog's Dexterity and Strength after building up Constitution enough to get decent HP. You'll be amazed at how effective a tank s/he is. :)

Many would say you ARE cheating.
