By the way, just throwing it out there, but the forum response vs. a response from all gamers is going to be significantly different.

Oh, I know.  It's hardly a randomly sampled group.  But the results from the forum are interesting, too.

Why not...

33 male.

I saw space invaders when I was 4 and thought it was magic. Not much has changed since then.

41, female. So far I'm the oldest woman, but we're still on the first page of the thread.

Oh, and Slimgrin, are you a male transvestite, or a female transvestite? They come in both varieties.

36 yr old male, actually....and still playing video games.

Ah, I missed the humor, sorry. :D

The first video game that I ever purchased was...Mass Effect.

I played a few games over the years, Pac-Man when I was a teen (though only a few times), Streets of Rage, Street Fighter, and whatever my young cousins and nephews had around. But I never owned a game system until a friend showed me Mass Effect. The character customization, dialogue wheel and the protaganist actually speaking in cutscenes had me hooked immediately. I never liked first-person POV in games, I like seeing the character.

Now in addition to my XBox 360 and two Mass Effect games, I have a PlayStation 3 with several games. The first game I bought for that platform was Resident Evil 5 (love the co-op combat, character design, and motion capture; voice acting is meh.) I know I could have purchased RE5 for XBox, but then I wouldn't have been able to play co-op with my friend who has a PS3, so I had to buy the new console (which I prefer to the XBox 360, actually). I only use my XBox 360 for Mass Effect, and I'm still on my first console (knock wood).

The last console I owned was the original Nintendo. Played the hell out of BlasterMaster, Metroid, Zelda, Castlevania...ah, the memories. Then it was off to college and I didn't start playing games again till I was about 28 and I had bought my first computer. I owned like three games, still wasn't really into it. All the next gen consoles had passed me by. Then a friend recommended Mass Effect. It was somethng of a revalation, my first real next gen video game.

Now I'm pretty much an addict, with a new computer and nine games on my system as well as MAME and a NES emulator. Sorry for rambling, but its kinda fun to share our gaming histories, I think.

Ugh is that why these forums smell like old people? You know that smell, kinda like moth balls, dust and a faint aroma of 10yr old candy in a dish for people. Also the old staticy radio I keep hearing about old baseball games.

I will admit this, Im glad I was born in 1990. I was born in the transition to 2D to 3D games and I was able to play all of the old games from the NES, Sega and what other games my older friends and family had. My first system was Sega Geneis and Vector Man :P

But... but they won't know the classics, they'll think FFX-2 was the best game ever and will have like Mass Effect: Second Rebound 5X-2 and will have people transforming into mini-skirts and "am i kawaii uguu" transformations. Lets not forget that even now teens my age find Naruto and Bleach better then a good Disney Movie.

At least you recognize that some day you also will be old like us. You will be the one dismissed and derided by young pups with no life experience. Perhaps you will even have a measure of wisdom by then. We can hope.
