Am I really the only one over 40 around here? I had expected at least a couple of other antediluvian types.
Pretty sure I saw someone else over 40 around page 1 or 2. And why does it matter? It seems like everything's downhill after you hit 25 anyways so it's all relative.
Humor/sarcasm detected. Initiating rejoinder protocols.
For the record, the widely accepted paradigm that youth is preferable to advanced old age is patently false. With advanced age, one's perception of humor becomes much more acute, and one's appreciation for video games also increases. We also get discounts at certain stores and diners.

My first game was The Legend of Zelda for the NES. I still have my NES around here somewhere; along with some 50-ish games for it. Heh, first game to make me mad was RC Pro Am (stupid yellow car and it's stupid speed lapping).

The poll results show what i expected, 21 to 30 male being largest, followed by 18-21 male. For most "serious" games i'd imagine the percentages would be about the same too.
It's nice to see that women gamers aren't just a myth, though

started "gaming" with foos-ball and pin-ball! Moved on to pong; then pac man and space invaders -- never looked back. I watched the microsoft and apple start-ups and thought "yeah right, these guys are going to go no-where!" (oops, lousy crystal ball)
learned basic programming using Fortran and punch cards !!
(Ok anyone top that? No I am NOT a liar, absolute truth above)
Pinball Wizard! You're one of the guys who started it all-- wow.
I should say that I hope you teen boys aren't taking my OP the wrong way-- I've nothing against teens or boys, honest! It's just that conventional wisdom has it that you guys are the only ones playing these games. Judging by this thread and the poll, that's just not true. I'm willing to be that the teens playing Mass Effect today will be playing games when they're 64, too. Some of them may very well be designing them!
Glad to see I'm not alone in the XX set here. It looks like about a quarter of us are women. I wonder if Dragon Age might have a higher percentage-- that was my "gateway drug" for more involved games (pretty much a casual gamer before that, despite having a World of Warcraft playing husband).

Funny, I always thought teenagers accounted for a lot of the gamer population. Guess I was wrong.

A few more men snuck in when I wasn't looking. So, to be precise, 19.05% women as I write this. See? Girls not only game, we can do math
