The game was advertised that you play going to world to world making decisions that would have a ripple effect. Going world to world sure as hell sounded like some kind of situation where exploration would play a role, large or not.

Does it? I didn't see any reason to assume that.

Not an assumption about exploration. The talk about ME1 was always around freedom of choices and exploration combined with consequences.

One of the oldest vids I could find. While some of what Casey Hudson says did not make it into the game, exploration and travel are still ideas you will in find other talks with Casey Hudson.

Im pretty sure it says something like "explore uncharted worlds" on the back of the game case.

"Interplanetary exploration of an epic proportion."

Isn't Haestrom epic planetary exploration? Ancient Quarian ruins on an abandoned planet in Geth space?

That was the ME1 description, ME2's is:
"Explore a massive galaxy full of exotic environments, undiscovered treasures and hidden enemies"

Seems accurate enough to me :P

It's on rails too much. The game really has been trimmed down even on the 2 discs. The problem is the limitations they place on the format. ME2 oozes class from every pore. The design is better, the combat is better, the powers cooler BUT it doesn't quite have the depth of the first games. For all it's flaws ME had much better Hub worlds. The second game does a good job of making them look like living breathing places but they need to be bigger, there need to be more going on. Also the second game lacks combat in these areas you never feel threatned by an ambush or an assassination attempt. What a lot of people who love the second game don't get is the fact that it could be so much better. One more DVD worth of data could flesh out these parts of the game, make them wider, more expansive, deeper. Although a brilliant game it does feel a little arcadey at points. Hopefully this will be addressed with three now that they have nailed gameplay and combat.
