I played it on my laptop when I was using Vista and played again when I upgraded to 7, now I want to play through again before I finally start ME2 and it isn't working for some reason.  All of my drivers are up to date, I am running as an administrator and in XP compatability mode, and I have even turned all my settings down even though I played on high before.  I have tried everything that I can think of and I really need some help.

System,

Turion X2 Ultra ZM-85 (2.3GHz)
4GB 800MHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4650
Windows 7 Premium 64-bit
1366x768 native res

Game,

MassEffect.exe v1.02
MassEffectLauncer v1.01
MassEffectConfig v1.02

You shouldn't need to play it in XP compatibility mode, I just installed it today on Vista x64 and it runs well. If it doesn't do anything when you run the .exe file, you may need to restart your computer and/or try "repairing" the installation from the Windows control panel. You might try installing DX9.0c also, since some games still need it to run.

When I start it it goes to the splash screen then black screens and freezes there. I have been looking for a solution for this for the last hour. I tried installing DX9 already, btw.

I have been doing some reading and saw that transferring the OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll from the Windows32 folder to the Mass Effect binary folder works but they are not there for me. Is this maybe the problem?

EDIT: I downloaded the installer from OpenAL and it still isn't working.

Finally figured it out. I don't know if it was downloading "Bringing Down the Sky" or just waiting a few minutes when it black screen'd but it finally worked!
