Alright, somehow i've gotten the feeling that I'm just completely incompetant - which mind you, is a rareity - but what exactly is a "desktop sword"...?

It's a small sword (usually a replica) that sits on your desk as a decoration. If that is what they mean here. I have several on my desk now and those look very enticing lol

EDIT: Does anyone know how much they are going to sell for?

These look like the Grey Warden's sword from the trailer (or the inflatable variety) and a darkspawn sword. :)

Is there a difference between the ones available at the bioware store and the 'collector's editions' available at epic weapons for a few bucks more?

Source.

I would assume so.  The non-collector-editions look exactly like the ones being sold in the Bioware store, while the Collectors editions $4+ seems to be credited to the gold handle...which probably isn't even gold, as they didn't specify a carat...or it is gold but its such a small amount that its not worth either mentioning the carat or...i dunno, $4?  The stands look identical, despite the .50 difference (btw, a special sarcastic 'good job' goes out to epic weapons for being so freakin greedy; Stand - $3+ , CE:  Certificate - $5, Accidental damage - $4, Extended Warranty - $4... sh*t customer service is sh*t).  Can someone who has bought the sword maybe take a picture of the 'stand' that it comes with and clarify my opinion when they receive them in mid-May?  And any chance the collector editions will make it to the Bioware store, Jedi?

I feel kinda aggrevated by this whole situation. A week of adds and hyping up the preorder for these things, and then they finally go up for sale, and a big "Oh, by the way, there are nicer limited edition versions of these, but you can't buy them here. You'll have to go over to this other random website and get ripped off with shipping and extra charges."

For one of each of the limited edition versions and the stands, the cheapest shipping option is UPS ground (4 to 9 day shipping) at a massive $12, and 1 day shipping was 40 something dollars, for an order that totaled 38 bucks. And I don't live all that far away from the place.

Then don't forget the paper version of the CE certificate being 5 dollars for each piece, and that's something most collector's would want, a paper certificate of authenticity.  Which comes free of charge with almost any other product you might buy, replica weapons included, since I buy quite a few of them, I have experience with other manufacturers and sellers.

The warranty and accidental shipping damage insurance, which will run you another 16 dollars on that same order.  You don't need that stuff, but it's piece of mind many companies offer free of charge or with a very minimal charge added to shipping.

It's a Bioware licensed item, I can't see why Bioware store can't carry both versions and keep it's fans and patrons away from this other shoddy company Epic Weapons, as much as possible.

Please tell me they ship outside the U.S.

Also: does it come with the stand or do you have to buy that seperately?

If you order from Bioware's store, i can tell you yes - they can ship outside the U.S.  As far as the stand, Jedi has said that a stand should come with the purchase from the B-store...

If your talking about from epic weapons store, though, I don't know about their shipping practices...and you would need to buy the stand separately, as it appears that they're mini-swords dont come with the stand...

Totally reviving a long dead topic, but the description reminded me of this post:

"Grey Warden Render Desktop Sword/Letter Opener"

The 'letter opener' part is just tacked on so they dont get in trouble for selling 'weapons' :P

The 'weapon'-part is exactly why I will get in trouble with the customs. And that's why I wanted to know the swords' possible purposes in the first place. Sharp things aren't allowed beyond a certain size here (they are considered weapons then). The term 'letter opener' makes the size more imagineable, especially for those ones using the metric system. Of course, I could convert the inch size and then use a ruler on one of my letter openers (one of the many things I collect, though they are wooden) - but the term's usage in the description already helps a lot.

Has anyone received their order from the bioware store yet that can confirm a stand being shipped with the swords? I got my Collectors editions from Epic Weapons today and can confirm that they do NOT come with stands unless you purchase them seperate. Of course I'll be contacting Epic here shortly about where my hard copy CoA is. Bad enough they charge for a piece of paper but then I don't even get it.
