Let's just say the Orlesian shoe market will thrive under her rule. ;)

But in the human noble origin, it IS stated that it is well known that HN would be better suited for Tyern(a) than Fergus, though Dairren may be just sucking up. Also, the HN is being left in charge of Highever, even mom is being sent away, so there must be some reason Bryce trusts the HN to care for the Teyrnir while he's gone.

I think political competence is a safe assumption unless you roleplay it differently.

I think that we should take anything said about the player character with a huge grain of salt. The nature of the HNM or HNF is not determined by the Codex or Dairren, but by the actions of the player. It's perfectly possible to play the Cousland as both a compassionate and politically savvy leader and as a psycopathic and destructive bastard.

The Orlesian shoe market would thrive under Imelda Marcos rule, that doesn't make her a great Queen.

Just to avoid trouble with the Chantry, which part was blasphmy? That Imelda Marcos would have swept the Orlesian shoe market clean or that I hinted that she made a lousy Queen?

Imelda Marcos did far more in politics then you would think. Do not discredit "handbag diplomacy."

Oh shush, opening up free shoe trade with Orlais will do wonders for Ferelden's sagging economy and the sorry state of its bootmaking craftsmanship. Cousland can even pick up where Cailan left off and make Loghain turn in his grave. ;)

Even thinking that Princess is less than absolutely perfect, from her pedicure to her ruling ability is the thought process of an infidel.  You must not have been exposed to the wonder that is Princess.  You too would be on your knees, whip in hand, self-flagellating, if you knew.

For shame :crying:

Edit: Ok, this one is over the top, even for me!  *sigh*, I hope my warden can be like her some day.

Second edit (well, third, but the ninja was exposed): I apologize for derailing a previously very interesting thread!

I would say something witty, but in the interest of not derailing this thread tooooo much, I'll just explain that that was the point... :pinched:

/throws a rock at Xandurpein, but misses.

ANYWAY, how can I bring this back around to kind of on topic? Hmmmmm, if the male warden were to stay with Leliana and have a child with HER, would said child be a possible heir?  See, the advantage to having a HNF marry Alistair but both have lovers on the side is you have double the chances of making a baby.

All it really takes is that the royal couple, whatever pair it may be, adopts a child and raise it to be their heir. After all the current King of Sweden (where I live) is the decendant of a french lawyer who got to be King that way.

But that was due to that he was a bud with Napoleon IIRC.

Edit: stopped giving a crap about remembering kings after Gustav den III.

Why would that be better than a Alistair/BannBimbo or Queenie/Arainni or an Aedan/Leliana baby?  At least with one of those combinations, noble blood would be continued, and in one, a definitely Theirin and in another, an assumed Theirin.

Adoption is a perfectly workable solution in the absense of a real heir. It has the advantage that the heir can be chosen for being promising, rather than just having the correct parents. A bastard child can raise questions and there is always the risk that the reign, and the succession, will be damaged if affairs becomes public.

I really do wonder how secret a Cousland/Arainai affair would be (though irrelevant in the case of a Male warden, of course).  But the people LOVE the queen!  She's their savior, their new ruler, and Alistair lets her do whatever she wants.  And just between you and me, I think a Cousland/Arainai baby would make a better king than one by Alistair/BannBimbo.

If Alistair were to acknowledge the baby, is that really different than adoption?  I actually think a child under those circumstances would be preferred by the people than one who is adopted. But appointing Fergus the heir, or one of his children, would bypass a LOT of problems.

Alistar aknowledging a Cousland/Arainai baby could be an issue. If it's later proven that the baby isn't his then doubt will be cast on the heir. If it's revealed that Alistair is not the father (for whatever reason) he must either disawow the child or adopt it. Adopting it would secure succession, but might weaken his rule as he will appear to be a cuckold.

I assumed it was known because of the epilogue card saying he allowed Elissa to act as she pleased (as if he had a choice).

In those circumstances I would assume that he would adopt the child rahter than aknowledge it, and then disawow the child if his Queen acted so atrociously that he decided to get rid of her, lock her up in a tower or something. He may be soft on women, but he's not without limits I think.

Re. faking an heir with Zevran/Leliana. How does Zevran or Leliana feel about being used in this way ? Would they be happy to relinquish all parental rights to their child/children and be ok with handing them over to Alistair/Anora ? What of their hopes to raise a family one day ? And what will the offspring be told, if anything ?

Whilst the plan might sound good initially, I think it stinks for the biological-but-secret parent and the child. I foresee many heartbreaking issues here with lots of opportunity for everything to turn extremely sour. At least with adoption or surrogacy with someone who's not in love with the king/queen, things should be a little more workable.

Actually, I do agree with you on this, but it is a situation all are going into with their eyes wide open.  Both Zevran and Leliana (if using a mod that repairs her bugs) understand a political marriage.  I think Leliana's child would not have to be lied about (the child of a King after all is the child of a King -- everyone would know the Queen wasn't pregnant).  It's Zevran with Queenie Cousland which is actually the problem.  THIS you get around, I suppose, by being Teyrna of Gwaren, raising the child there with a certain former Crow as the child's personal body guard.  Not ideal for sure.

To be honest. If love, marital and parental bliss is important to you, just stay away from the throne, and preferably don't even get drafted into the Grey Wardens at all.
