Fix the DLC DRM Bioware

Hopefully Bioware comes up with something though, restarting DA 5 times is stupid. It wont load my saves otherwise.

So there is some sort of check. It is probably a bug because Bioware said once I authorize the DLC once I shouldn't need to authorize it every time. But at las, that seems to be what is happening.

Now the next time you play you can play with your DLC if you dont have an intenernet connection. As long as you dont try to log in or remove your email address from the screen.

So I logged in and it authorized Again. So you see, there is something seriously wrong with this DRM and disabling authorization in the addins.xml does not work. I loaded my saved game up and everything from Warden's Keep is GONE and Shale is also GONE. However when i switch it back to needing authorization and loaded up my save game? It was fine.

I wonder if the people that say you dont need to log in have the Disc version or something. I wouldn't be surprised if they are 'punishing' the players who have the digital version.
I have the disc version, myself. If I don't have it set to log in automatically, or if I uncheck said option and don't log in before trying to play, it warns me that I need to log in to access my content. And even then, it doesn't always warn me. Hence my going in to find Alistair wearing only a helmet and nothing else, and Shale completely missing.
That's why I think the people who are saying not to complain must have it set to automatically log them in. And anyone who can't see that having to log in all the time to access stuff you've paid for is a form of DRM... well, they have no idea what they're talking about.

Its amazing people dont realize DRM when it stares them in the face. Setting your DA to login automatically and then saying you never have problems with DLC doesnt mean their is no DRM. It means your getting authorized as soon as you login.

The issue is Impulse, if I recall correctly they shipped with the wrong version of the DAupdater.

The problem is if you are not logged in, you cannot play a savegame with DLC. If your internet is out and you want to play some DA, too bad.
I just loaded my DLC ridden game just fine earlier today when my internet was out.
So, you're wrong.

By that notion, These forums are DRM

braindead.
These forums are not something I paid for to access. I did, however, pay for Warden's Keep, and the fact that it disappears from my game if I don't log in first for it to verify I own it is a form of DRM. It's not hidden DRM. It's right in your face DRM.

Except this is NOT an on-line game. Even IF you sign in, you can still face a naked or partly invisible tank, vanished party member or a mage with missing spells which means you have to load, reload and reload until EA servers decide that you actually bought the DLC and will let you use it. This is horrible DRM and not working as it should.JigPig wrote...
As it rightfully should, it's tied to your account. If it wasn't based on account activation, what's to stop you from giving it to all you're buddies? I see a difference between limiting you to 3 installs/installing hidden rootkits in your registries and making you LOG in to access content.blasphemae wrote...

Also: "Oh yeah, treat your customers like criminals, that'll show them!" is what I'm getting from your post. <_<

Riiiiight... like the DLC hasn't been cracked somehow already, or at least already in the works. DRM of any kind is bad. If I start up my game one day because my internet is out and I'm bored off my ass, and I feel like going through the Shale or Warden's Keep quests, I won't be able to. Or if I start up a save that's in the middle of the game, Shale is gonna disappear from my party, and Alistair's gonna be nekkid as a jaybird. Even though it's something I PAID FOR. Again, DRM of any kind is bad. If I'd realized that I would have to log in EVERY time I wanted to play in order to access my DLC, I wouldn't have bought it.
And by the way, I would like to point out that I've never NOT logged in before playing, which means that time Alistair showed up naked and Shale disappeared? I WAS LOGGED IN. DRM of any kind is bad, but DRM that doesn't work properly is even worse.

Ah yes, instead of implementing zero copy protection, let's give them the game for free!
Do people blame the Ford when they lose their car key to their Focus and it won't start?
Yeah, sure, that's what I was proposing.
Edit: That comparison is absolutely ridiculous. LOL. Yeah, it's totally my fault the BIOWARE/EA SERVERS decided I wasn't the rightful owner, and that I had to restart the game several times before it worked.

Yeah because developers should not get paid for there work? If there was no system in place for DLC then what would even be the point of them trying to sell DLC? I mean anyone and everyone would just pick it up off a torrent site somewhere. Atleast now there is some form of protection to the system and the developers get paid for an amazing game and we continue to get updates and more content.
If its really that big of a issue to you then don't buy any DLC and you will not have any problems with it. DRM when used correctly is worth it. But when used incorrectly and hidden from the player it does nothing but hurt the game. In this case you know the DRM is there and you know you will need a internet connection to access your DLC.

You're missing the point. Even if we are logged in and on-line, the server won't let us use our DLC. That is the problem and it has not been fixed.Toom316 wrote...

So because you have a hard time trying to play ME, it's ok if we have a hard time trying to play DAO? I mean, you suffered so we have to as well as retribution for the suffering you endured right? It was actually the DAO customer's fault ME had install limits right?JigPig wrote...
Are you kidding? I couldn't play Mass
Effect for 2 months because of that stupid install limit ****, that's
from the same company. Really? You had to restart the game a few
times? Big whoop.
