Ok,
How many friggin bars of Rene/Para do you need to get the option to use Morinth vice Samara in Samara's quest. I am on my 4th playthrough (insanity) and have been focused on making selections I never did in previous play throughs.
I can't seem to unlock the morinth option.

In Morinth's apartment, you need to use the paragon/renegade conversation options when talking to her. It will lead to a confrontation between Samara and Morinth that lets you choose whether to kill either. So, all you really need to be is sufficiently progressed in either the paragon or renegade bar. Unless you've been constantly playing 50/50, it shouldn't be an issue.

Quote from the ME2 wikia:
once there she tried to seduce Shepard, only to see her mother enter the room. Morinth and Samara battled; Morinth saw her chance and asked Shepard to help her kill Samara, claiming she was just as powerful as her mother and could serve Shepard's cause.
Shepard then has a choice to kill either Samara or Morinth if the charm or intimidate option was used. Killing Samara is considered to be the Renegade outcome, though Paragon Shepards are also able to choose this outcome as it is not dependent on Paragon / Renegade scores

There are 3 Paragon and Renegade options during the conversation in Morinth's Apartment. The important one is the third one. If you are able to resist Morinth that third time, you'll be able to choose between Samara or Morinth in the fight. If you are unable to pass that final check, then Samara will automatically kill Morinth.
If you've played a complete Paragon or a complete Renegade and still can't choose it, then there is one more thing you can try. I was unable to make the last Paragon check myself for quite a while, and the reason was because I'd taken the Commando evolution of the Soldier's passive ability. That one only gives +70% Paragon/Renegade. I used the Retrain Powers to change it to Shock Trooper (giving me +100% Paragon/Renegade), and had no problems passing that final check.

Not true. I passed this check as a Male with just over 3 bars filled. Maybe 3 1/2. I know for a fact, however, that my gauge was not full.

I was a Paragon, and had only about 3.5 bars filled.
As for how soon I do it, I saved it for near the end, when it's a much more difficult check to pass. Of course, the only reason I waited so long was because I'd had some issues with passing that check before. Turns out that I needed the extra Paragon bonus from the Shock Trooper spec. However, even with Shock Trooper, I was still at 3.5 bars.
