Yet for some reason the game is very, very glitchy... does anyone know as to why this is happening?

Might help to describe what you mean by "very glitchy."
to quote you
i mean the video qualilty really does suck at times, like during a big battle like on Virimre or Novera it get's very slow... very slow... and it starts to not work but yet it still is working, everything is working expect for the video... when i'm standing still or in a cutscene... like in a shop or talking.... it works perfect..., but when i move it's horrible it pauses an pauses but the game still is running
that's best i could do

nVIDIA's drivers are typically incompatible with the UT3 game engine, forcing Geforce users to sort through and test numerous candidate drivers to find one that may work!
Gorath Alpha
what should i do?
do you know of anyone that has had this same problem and looked for a better drive? and by drive i mean the drivers that are install onto the machine?

Might just be that your processor is not that strong. I have a 2.1 Ghz Athlon X2 (so dual core, which ME is supposed to be able to take advantage of) but I too have some stuttering in combat. (And with a Radeon 4770, I doubt it's my video card holding things up.) With a single-core P4, there's probably only so much the game can do on your comp.
You could try turning down the resolution and/or some of the effects. I'm not sure which things would be most CPU intensive, I'm afraid, which is where you'd want to really turn it down.

I have a 9600 GT, like the OP, and I get 50 fps even at 1920x1080p which kind of shocked me when I played the game for the first time on my new monitor. I have only made it to the Citadel, however. Maybe Virmire could slow things down. I'd do some more testing right now but I have an ancient driver installed to run Knights of the Old Republic without crashes so I can't run ME1 at the moment.Kloreep wrote...
Ah, so you're getting low frame rates in combat. Stuttering would be another word I might use. Is it literally pausing on a single frame for seconds at a time, or just getting really jerky? It isn't as bad as the former for me, but I can get down to 15-20 frames per second in some intense combat situations, especially if I'm trying to get the game to play with full quality settings at 1600x900.
I've played ME1 on recent drivers (197.13) and that worked fine. It is indeed true that Geforce drivers could cause some issues with Mass Effect 1. I once had a driver installed, don't remember which, and my framerate wouldn't go over 20 fps until I had played for half an hour.
