no, it doesnt work, it even killed my system, i tried to install it since friday, nothing works, its just a pool of bugs

if you are being serious and thats not a fake post from some EA guy, then you just have tons of luck that those solutions did work for you

It does work, had no problem at all here, and there are too many that have it working for it to be tons of luck. Sounds like it your system that does not work to 100%. If it has to do with drivers, something you have installed or whatnot, more likely it is your puter that does not like the toolset.

we paid for it, so of course everything should be "handed" to us

You paid for a game. The toolset was a free download off the site.

the
toolset is still part of the package, thats just a lame excuse, i
clearly paid for the toolset, the toolset isnt free, its just that you
can part of it download, you cant download it without buying the game,
you cant use it without buying the game

i paid for the toolset

and the one above me:

no
my system is right, i had it fresh installed, there is nothing wrong
with it, read the dman forum, there are so many guys where it is
working? a very high percentage of the threads here are about
installation problems

edit:

@eidolonn the service for
(BWDATOOLSET) is on network service, if i want to set it to local
service or to my acc it says something like paramaete rnot valid with
the code 0x80041008

i dont know where to find this log :(

What about the SQL service?  Not the BioWare one.  It will be listed under Microsoft SQL or SQL.  Can't remember which for SQL 2005.

I am still pretty sure (about 90%) that your problem lies with SQL, not the toolset.  The toolset has two major requirements: that DA:O is installed and that SQL is installed and available.  SQL can be a bit tricky to configure, especially if you have firewalls and other protection software in place.  Let's just say that I had to reinstall my O/S to get it installed on my home PC because of all the crap I had clogging up my system.  It was far easier to reinstall the O/S than to try to find the needle in the haystack.  In the end, it turned out to be the AVG (anti-virus) software I had installed.

I am not saying I am taking you down that road, just that it can be tricky.

Also, let's just ignore the other posts regarding whether the toolset works or doesn't work.  Let's focus on your issue specifically.  Let the others just chat it up.

Bear with me here.  I am at work and I have both SQL 2008 and SQL 2005 installed on a Windows 7 box.  I also do not see a way to embed any images, so check this link.

http://social.biowar.../49099/6801.jpg

I am looking for the SQL Server (SQL2005) service specifically.  If you do not have that in your list of services, than SQL is not properly installed.

You get to services through Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services.

Off-topic, but to embedded images, you have to switch to BBCode mode (far right button on the msg's toolbar) and then just surround the link with [ img ] link [ /img ] (no spaces, of course).  Like so...

i am no computer newbie, but i dont see anything here like "control panel" that leads to administrative tools and then services

what i am doing now is clicking on the left down corner on my windows bar

start -> alle programme (all programms) -> microsoft sql server 2005 -> configuration tools -> sql server configuration manager

there i can click on the left side on sql server 2005 services, which shows me sql server (BWDATOOLSET) and sql server browser

someone else got their toolset running by installing sql 2008 before and then installing the toolset with sql 2005 still checked to install too, i did that one before also but it doesnt seem to cause any problems

i also got those error messages before i tried that with server 2008

and my pc is fresh installed, i only have some stuff installed like the windows install clean up, flash, and some games like diablo2, no database or programming stuff before

all that system stuff like .net 3.5, windows clean up, sql 2008, where installed as i was trying to get the toolset working, so there was nothing beforehand that kept the toolset or sql from working

First off, you should have services in your Administrative Tools. This is standard Windows protocol. If you do not see something called Services, you may not have access to them for some reason. Or they may be called something else in whichever language you are installed with.

Also, do you have SQL Management Studio Express (for 2005) installed? If not, download it from Microsoft and install it.

Open it and try to connect to your SQL 2005 server.

windows hides admin tools by default. without customising the start menu, just run (Win key + R) services.msc to go directly to them.

ok i can open a database thats already connected to this BWDATOOLSET, and i can open that big administrative tools i am tired now and go to bed, eidolonn i wrote my icq number to you in case you want to help me further, dont know if that works so well if we go through the stuff step by step by posting in a forum

good night guys, if anybody wants to describe what i have to do now to make the database or whatever to get the tools working feel free to post, i will read everything

but i must admit i am pretty close at giving up, i bought the pack really because of the toolsets, i always wanted to create some rpg experience that has some cinematic feeling to it, and i thought the DA toolset with the cutscene editor was exactly what i needed since i got my hands on some rpg making tools years ago

i know how to handle flags and variables, i know how to make logical connections ("play this cutscene when that happens and the hero has all quest items" and stuff like that) i am good in imagining things how they could look in a movie with that camerawork and stuff so that it might look somewhat interesting, and i think i am able to put some story together that makes sense, but i seem not to be able to install the one toolset that seems to be mighty enough to handle all this :crying:

Well, i got one of the same two error messages again, and i made sure MSXML6 was completely removed via the ms installer tool, and that any files from the previous MSSQL 2005 were removed, and deleted the toolssql folder, and then tried reinstalling, and i got the same error message again.

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '='.. Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information.

If someone has an idea how to fix this, please let me know. I have already tried multiple suggestions attempted by others, but have found no way to get past this.

I think i'm gonna try installing MSSQL 2008, but i'm unsure how I would then link the database if the toolset install does work at that point.

Edit: I have noticed that i do still have MSXML 4.0 SP2 listed, but i was afraid to remove it. Also, i see  "Microsoft XML Parser [8.20.8730.4]" installed, but i didnt remove it since it wasnt "MSXML6" and i'm concerned about causing a problem that would cause me to have to reformat my computer.

So, any ideas?

Edit2: also, can i remove the sqlexpr folder from the tools folder in Dragon Age, since it looks like it is solely related to the MSSQL 2005 install.

Regardless of whether or not the toolset should work perfectly out of the box, you can't expect to actually do any modding without jumping through some technical hoops and spending a great deal of time just "trying to get things to work". Consider getting the toolset operational an initiation ritual.

You know, people have said a lot of stupid things in this thread... but that takes the cake.

Okay, with using MSSQL2008 instead of 2005, it seems like it installed, except it couldnt seem to find the uninstall file it needs...are there possibly corrupted versions of the toolset that could be causing part of my problem?

So when i open the toolset it tells me "Unable to connect to database, Run the toolset configuration program and verify your settings or search the toolset wiki to help with this issue.Toolset must now exit"

So any idea what to do next? When i open the configuration utility, it has me confirm the Win32 game build and then it asks for the content database, but i dont know where that database would be.

I had to struggle with the "unable to connect to database" issue once during the beta testing, and also when I installed the final toolset. My solution was to uninstall the toolset and the database and clean the registry, then re-install. (by registry cleaning I mean removing any remaining registry entries referring to the SQL server or the toolset after removing the programs). This did the trick for me, but my situation might be different, as I was installing the toolset on top of an existing older (beta) installation.

Still, if nothing else works, this might be worth trying.

after last nights additional attempts with no luck, i'm just gonna wait until Bioware releases a new version of the toolset that fixes the install issues.

So should i remove MSXML6 completely, and let the toolset install it, and do you think that could be the cause of the MSSQL issues?

Yes. After I upgraded to Service Pack 3, I tried to install the toolset again. Kept getting an error message that it couldn't install SQL server. Removed MSXML6 using Windows Cleanup Utility (couldn't remove it in Add/Remove for some reason) and then tried to install toolset again. Worked like a charm.

Dude, seriously, you are my hero. That worked! I thought the same thing Franco did, I actually REinstalled MSXML6... this time I removed it AND ran the clean uninstall, and SQL installed fine, DA toolset booted up. A week of messing with this for several hours a day, and it was that friggin' simple.

And, damn it, I'm at work on a remote connection so I can't even use it for another 6 hours.

Anyways, thanks, bro, greatly appreciated.

I'm glad that worked for you man, too bad it still did not fix my issue. Honestly, i'm thinking that the only thing i may be able to do is uninstall Dragon Agea nd then delete any folders involved in the game (backing up my save), and then reinstall the game, and do the clean install again and see if that works.
