Quite frankly, I loved all the squadmates in both games, but Jacob gets the most hate which is a damn shame. He seems like the most genuinely cool character in the game, someone who you can just kick back and relax with, whether you've just seen your previous love interest change completely or you're soon about to charge into hell itself. Here's to simply being cool.
Anyone else think it would be a sweet idea if you had the option of giving Jacob the Cerberus Assault Armour for the Collector Base - assuming you've downloaded it and you're not wearing it yourself? I think it'd be cool to see him in some proper armour for the last mission, and the Assault Armour seems like the perfect piece. Apart from the helmet, that can stay off. Main characters shouldn't wear helmets.
I dunno, maybe you guys all hate it. First post ya see, not got into the vibe yet.

I like Jacob. I'm guessing this is the correct (only?) thread to say such a thing.

Welcome to the thread. It's probably fair to say that Jacob receives so much hate because of his romance and because of the way female Shepard speaks to him. Some people just aren't comfortable with their heroine being so flirtatious.
That said, I think another reason he isn't popular is that his "I don't want to talk right now," line, the one about not being big on "forcing these talks" comes off colder than some of the other squadmates' equivalents (Garrus' calibrations line, for instance).

Jacob's actually the msot stable character in the entire game, his dad popping up was an anomally (even Edi says so haha) and even then he keeps his calm afterwards and asks She if she needs to vent for anything. Why can't everyone be like that?
I like that about JT. People complain that he is so boring... but in a ship filled with people with all kinds of bizaar problems and issues he is really unique. A really stable, confident but modest, guy who you can count on to have your back. He's comfortable with who he but he is also a great person to share with. It's a shame that you can't have freindships in ME2 because some more dialog and character developement with out romances would be great. JT may have some more friends if BW would do that...

And now... I'd like to think about how to expand Jacob's dialog if it were in a plutonic way. It's a problem with every squadie imo that there just isn't enough dialog. And it is even more of a problem with the LI's... I was seriously dissapointed when JT and Jack were like hey we gonna be awesome friends and have picknicks... and parties... and smash pinatas.... and then stopped talking to me....
So for JT specifically what would be some good conversation topics?
I would of course like to know more about his time with the Corsairs and his daring rescue of the Council. Maybe his opinion on the council's current actions or to add some realism to being part of a crew, his opinion on other crewmates... and I mean more than just... hey yeahh... people still have issues go wipe their teary eyes or we won't be able to defeat the collectors easily...

I wouldn't mind if he went into greater detail about the events of Mass Effect: Galaxy. The way he glosses over it, it's like the writers assumed we'd have already played it or something.
And maybe he could learn something from Alistair and ask for Shepard's opinions on the other squadmates.

I find it disturbing that a laid back, cool cucumber like Jacob gets described as dull while people fawn over people like Thane*. Jacob isn't your best buddy, he's your loyal friend. The type of guy who may not be the most interesting guy at the party but you you could trust with your life, your lady and your wallet.
Plus it's refreshing to see someone who brings some flava to the sci-fi genre, where everyone is usually either an archetypal badass or an ethically homogenized "proper gentleman".
* Man I hate Thane. All he is an angsty frogboy with a cool entrance. Every time he talks I picture myself doing the slow head turn and saying "aren't you dead yet?" For the proper way to do a hitman with a soul, see John Woo's The Killer.

But soon enough, I noticed that Jacob acts a lot like some of my friends I hang out with all the time. They act cool ,calm and collected, very boring and unremarkable. But every time that I have really needed them, they've been there, understanding and supportive. It made me realize that that is what Jacob stands for. The balanced, well-rounded individual. He doesn't have very many highs or lowes, which does make his character a bit boring in the ME universe.
But he's a nice guy, who is there to get the job done, stands by his principles and follows the orders of his superiors. Exactly the kind of executive officer that several of my Shepards want on their ship. As much as I like Miranda, she is more inclined to fight Shepards orders and go her own direction. But Jacob follows Shepard's lead, and you notice that in the suicide mission, no one questions Jacob taking the place of Squad Leader. That's because he's a guy that is easy to trust, and easy to count on. I can see him taking a leadership role in ME2. Either in the Allaince, at Cerberus, or on Shepard's crew.

In my experience, the second time through the romance was better than the first. It seemed to make more sense.CastonFolarus wrote...
At first, I found Jacob's whole character(his romance, especially) to be utterly boring and lacking substance.
