Thanks PD Orta. I tend to stay away from Pull. It is useful but on higher difficulties I find the added attack power of Inferno Ammo more useful. Side note: Panzer Dragoon fan? I miss those games. I wish I wouldn't have essentially gave my Saturn away with all my games. Panzer Dragoon Saga was exceptional.

Cool, you spotted the name reference. I loved the Panzer Dragoon games. I've still got my saturn and Panzer Dragoon saga (one of my favorite RPG's of all time). It's just a shame what's happened to Sega in general.

I tend to max Jacob out in Pull until it's at Pull Field first thing as he gets points to add. It's really useful when you can just throw a wall full of people into the air.

I normally keep pull at level 1 or 2, get heavy barrier and Inferno ammo. I find this setup makes him very powerful, with decent CC thanks to inferno setting enemies on fire and of course pull

Darc, your convo's are excellent. really enjoy reading them.

That's exactly my setup for Jacob too! I really enjoy pull but when it's heavy pull it practically kills the enemy. Which takes the fun away from pulling them in the sky and blasting them with a concussive shot.

I've tried various setup's, I find this the most effective one.

I may eventually try that build out. It's a shame though that Jacob is still getting a rep as a bad squadmate even though the recent DLC has "fixed" peoples complaints about him.

People just hate Jacob because he's human. If you swapped Jacob's dialog with say Thane, people would hate Jacob because he abandoned his kid and talks about his dead wife all the time.

God forbid if Jacob was religious like Ashley.

God forbid if Jacob was religious like Ashley.

And God forbid if Jacob was just a simple Soldier :o

It's pretty stupid that with humans people try to point out every imaginable flaw, even non-existent ones, while an alien character with exactly the same character is forgiven and usually has a large fanbase....

@Gash

That's pretty much explains it all. The human characters, particularly the male ones get hyper analyzed. Side note: You need to post more often Gash. I'm still getting a kick out of your avatar.

@PrinceLionheart

I can only imagine. Ashley gets some what of pass because the female human LI's don't seem to catch quite as much flack as the human ones, but if a male character had her religious views... Let's just say there would be more hate than a Super Star Destroyer full of Sith Lords.

And don't forget that some of the flaws that the aliens have are considered to be cool while they would be unforgivable with a human (and I'm not talking about understandable ones).

I agree. That's why pulled out the Thane comparison. No way a human character that abandoned their kid and talks constantly about their dead spouse would be well loved. I mean people roasted Kaidan for whining when you had to prod him about talking BAaT. Seriously? Getting sent the edge of the solar system and locked away on a space station with a racist Turian is paradise? No cool points for killing him with Sweet Chin Music? I bring up Kaidan because Jacob's character was clearly a response to the baseless complaints about Kaidan.

As for your pic, is the answer to the question Jacob's abs? :wizard:

People would call a human Thane pure evil and cruel, even if he was still an assasin. Sadly not all people understand that.... It's pretty funny that people were complaining that Kaidan talked too much and now they complain Jacob doesn't talk at all....

Well actually the answer is "66 ton of straight up HE spewing devine intervention" but JT's abs will do too ;)

One talk of Jacob's that I love is when he asks you how you're holding up and what your personal demons are. What other LI does that? And Jacob knew that what he had tried before (the alliance and corsairs) wasn't working the way it should, and so he adapted and tried to see the big picture, something which Kaidan as he was written on Horizon failed to do. Kaidan couldn't see that Shepard was trying to do what was right, but Jacob decided to do what he felt was right even if he wasn't thrilled with Cerberus being the means. It shows that Jacob is willing to make those hard choices and live with them.

I would like to see some Virmire Survivor DLC to correct the horrible mistake that was Horizon, but until then I see my Shepard just being too hurt at being called a traitor by someone who knew and trusted her to consider Horizon anything other than a breakup and call to move on. And I liked ME1 Kaidan a lot. I guess he was a victim of writing.

I just hope that the complaints people have about male human LIs don't affect Jacob's romance or the lack thereof in ME3.  I mean, I like Garrus because of his personality, but it's Jacob's bod and Zaeed's butt that make me grin stupidly.  If we gals have to put up with Miranda's cameltoe, we should always get equal eye candy =P

I disagree.
I support Jacob as a character, I think he's great at what he does, he's professional and honest.
I guess I just don't think he makes a great LI. He is very easy to alienate, just by asking questions about him, and he doesn't want to confide in you like other characters do. That, to me, speaks of someone who's just not all that into a relationship, you know?

I liked Jacob's loyalty mission. I thought it added a lot of depth as to who he is.
He just seems like a character who would be best in a platonic situation with Shepard, to me, and that's why I've kept him as that in my games. I always talk to him, though, it just sucks that he, like all the other characters, runs out of dialogue so soon.

I also disagree that it's because he is human.

I see a lot of people trying to say "the hate is just because of this, or this" - and unfortunately, they'll often attribute it to physical characteristics of some sort. :(

It has nothing to do with any of that for me, and everything to do with the way Jacob acts.

I want to like Jacob. In my last playthrough I was actually quite happy with our interactions. But I had to walk on eggshells to achieve it. Jacob is a very good guy, but I wish he didn't make me feel so unwelcome sometimes. And incidentally, if Thane acted exactly the same way, I'd feel the same about him, as well.

This. Jacob changed somehow between Galaxy and me2. He was up tight and when you take the dialouge option that make it osund like you want him to talk out his problems he gets REALLY defensive and shuts out femshep. and he says something about his problems being his alone and you needing to back off. Other than that he's a very good guy and only cares about doing the right thing.

Why should he talk about his problems to femshep at all? He doesn't get 'REALLY' defensive. He tells her he doesn't want to talk about it. There isn't much to talk about really. The situation with his father is what it is. He said he's dealt with it and wants to move on. She knows enough about the situation already.

If JT wants Shep to back off asking about his father maybe she should do just that.

That's why I like JT, he's the only squadmate that doesn't complain to me about his personal problems. And you can't forget, privacy is not an option on the SR-2! :P

I disagree. On these forums at least, it seems that the alien characters of ME get a free pass for their flaws while any human characters get theirs amplified. This seems to be the case with Jacob, Ashley, and Kaidan in particular. You've voiced your displeasure with Jacob in great detail and while I don't share your opinion I respect it. I know why you feel the way you do.

I think part of the reason I like Jacob's character so much is because I can identify with him. If I don't want to talk about something. Badgering me about it grates my nerves as well. I think that's why I found the sequence of events that leads up to Jacob dumping Shepard so poignant. My reaction under those circumstances would have been very similar. If anything, It would cause me to close myself off more. Jacob has a similar reaction and I dig it. I just wish I had those abs :wizard:

Same here. I didn't even know that my FemShep could be dumped by JT. I didn't press the father issue because there was no point. It was pretty obvious from the dialogue Shep just wanted JT in bed anyway.  A friend with benefits and that's all Kaiden was at first also. Maybe it'll progress further in ME3 but Kaiden is definitely history after that diss on Horizon.

That's why I think Jacob cuts the slack in comparison. He's a person who doesn't like to talk about personal experiences, which is why he's the only character out of ME2 whom you can ask about his opinion on your progress with ME2 story. Not everyone out in the world is eager to talk about their life. Some are just happy to talk on general grounds.

As for the alien being free pass, I agree. If Garrus was human, people will call him some whiny guy (Carth-clone). If Grunt was human, he would be considered to be a typical boring male. If Mordin was human, people will think him a bit weird. That's the charm of aliens or making different cultures, since you have liberties to do what you want without copping lots of critism.

I wonder if someone put the clip up on Youtube. I've finished ME2 8 times so far. I have Male Shep for every romance (Ashley, Liara, Tali, Miranda, and Jack). I have finished the game with 3 Femsheps. Two went with Jacob and one is still pining over Kaidan. I made fourth and I wanted to see what would happen if you kept pressing Jacob to open up more. He gets agitated and if you keep pushing. He dumps you. I thought it was pretty funny actually. I didn't think anyone could resist Shepard. Next thing you know they'll start giving squadmates "I should go" powers and they'll start walking off in the middle over your conversations. :lol:

@Alexine

Your observation on Garrus is dead on. I didn't realize until I read your post. Garrus was my least a favorite character in ME1. Thankfully, him single handedly holding off every merc gang on Omega for days redeemed him. Still a bit weak willed for my taste but I can respect a guy that has every criminal element sans Aria shaking in their boots. I guess even Archangel knew that you don't eff with Aria.

He probably dumps Shep because she reminds him of Miranda's bs. I truly believe now without any doubt that it was Jacob that dumped Miranda and not the other way around.
