All this talk about Jacob gameplay reminds me how awesome he is along with a Sentinel. His ability list has a lot of synergy with a Sentinel, especially an Assault Sentinel.
I couldn't agree more. Although he supports all power based classes quite well, I find him to match the Sentinel perfectly.

I can't believe there is an actual Jacob support thread.
I guess there ARE people who like Jacob. My only question is WHY???
He was the most uninteresting, flat, stereotypical character I've ever seen. He made Kaiden Alenko look like the most interesting thing in the world.
And he was boring as hell.
Seriously, the most memorable thing about Jacob is "the priiize" line, and that just made me cringe.
So what is it? Or is it only girls who like his pecs?

If you are going to dislike a character, at least be accurate in your assessments. If you think Jacob is stereotypical then you don't know the meaning of the word. Play Gears of War and see Cole Train for your walking black stereotype character. After you do so, you come back here and apologize.

I will admit, it would be impossible for me not to laugh at Jacob jokes (maybe that's just a failing of mine), but I really really like him; even my Cerberus-phobe Sole Survivor Shep likes him, best friends, actually. As things currently stand, he might be the only ME2 romance I do. ...What? He and my Renegade Shep, Cara, were like *made* for each other.

I know how that is. I'll admit that Jacob isn't my favorite character, but I still rather like him. I don't see why people put so much effort into hating fictional people when there are plenty of real people to hate.Darc_Requiem wrote...

I haven't popped in here in ages and now Jacob's stereotypical?
Honestly, the reason I like Jacob is that he's an equal, someone who you don't have to pick up scraps and put them together.

But why is he boring?

Jacob is sorely underrated, I guess it stems from being a rock of stability in a sea of angst. I wish we had more like him in Mass Effect 2, heaven knows that ship could use a few more cool heads.
This is rather ironic, since a lot of ME2 fans don't like the sea angst from JRPGs, yet they don't mind it in Mass Effect 2. LOL

Ugh. I thought I had finally removed that scene from my mind. The megaphone disaster easily eclipses "LOOK AT ALL DAT JUICE."

Personally I think, taking into consideration Jacob's personality and character, he should've been implemented as a "Non-Love Interest" character like Samara.

Hey, his character is just fine for a love interest. Also, if you just pick the middle conversation options, femshep doesn't sound so creepy and you also hit that "bro spot" with Jacob even as femshep.

That wouldn't work out well. Femshep can get with aliens Garrus and Thane but not an athletic human. There would be valid questions as to why he isn't a love interest.

And that is an unfortunate perception you have, BiancoAngelo7, I don't see why Jacob isn't deserving of an appreciation thread than any other character. The more I play the game, the more I find myself liking the character. He is a stark contrast from the rest of the party in that, he doesn't "whine" nor wear his heart on his sleeve, and not befouled with angst. Like Kaidan, I think Bioware wanted to take a step back from the mockery Carth received in KOTOR and as such made the human males not as prone to, again, whine and air their personal problems as openly. Certainly, in ME2 he might come across as "bland, flat" when compared to the more "exotic" aliens because, yeah, they're aliens. They can entertain us with stories of their culture, custom, unique histories whereas we obviously know what human society is like. But is he so different to them? He certainly feels a need to do good, none to different from Garrus, yet the bureaucracy involved in getting the necessary work done to DO good has affected him too. Perhaps his time as a Corsair dawned the realization of how gray the galaxy is much like how it struck Garrus on Omega with his squad? I'm sure he is envious of Samara's ability to see the world in terms of black and white, where he knows he is doing good and going up against the bad. In a way, the Reapers give him such an opportunity to do good. Given how few people believe the oncoming Reaper threat, Jacob is a valuable asset as anyone to Shepard in his battle against them. You know he won't sit about idle while we wait for the impending invasion, he is a soldier like Shepard, and he'll offer his gun and his abilities to defeat them and dive in head first WITH Shepard to get it done.

I think Jacob is as valid a romance as any other character, only bogged down in "bad dialogue" on Shepard's part.

This was a great post DirtyVagrant and I fuly agree with it. Jacob is the only one aboard the Normandy who can actually understand how Shepard feels since he went through the same (on a smaller scale and without that dying part).

I'll try it with my current playthrough. It's just that whole *leans on table and cue creepy voice* "I'm more interested in just talking for a bit".

You have to get over the cheesy dialogue to truly appriciate the Jacob roamnce, he is the only one that says "I love you" and also the only one that can dump YOU xDmynameisdanza wrote...

If Bioware didn't fraked up the dialogue then the Jacob Roamnce would've been on of the best romances of the game....
