i've always liked jacob, people says he's boring, but that's because he's not always crying on your shoulder like thane, or running around like a turian batman to fight crime. he's definitely a professional soldier who doesn't bring personal life into the workplace. well i guess that does technically make him more boring, but it's nice to have a character who is practically just one of the guys. it would be kinda retarded if all 3 LI's were some mentally unbalanced cowboy whose personal lives were just a train wreck of epic proportions.
his VA does a good job with him, too.
Bear with me, slightly feverish and sleep deprived.
I think one of the reasons he's a bit unpopuler is because everyone else (and this isn't a ME2 phenomom, it's more just something games do in general, especially RPG's) wants/needs something from you. Jacob doesn't (Kaidan too can be a bit neurotic imo, but once again, like Jacob, he's got baggage but it's been dealt with) want or need anything from you though. Argueably femshep's pursuit is about Shep needing him. (I think of Chakwas' statement when you drink with her: 'Shepard. Our immovable rock.')
So I suppose I'm saying in a rather roundabout way Jacob's good for a male/friendshep because he's a definate bro, but the idea that your Big Empowered Woman femshep might need someone to lean on (or worse, have to pursue the man!) might be part of the reason people dislike him. Sure, Jacob's a bit like Kaidan, but credit where it's due, Kaidan's a bit faster on the uptake than Jacob if you're trying to get in his trousers.
Ah, gender double standards at their finest. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie] (gets pumelled)
Tbh, I am fed up of being the pursuer in games............ I like a man who knows what he wants

I think BioWare fulfil their own fantasies with these aggressive females
I agree that it seems if a person is well adjusted and we don't have to 'fix', them they are less likely to be popular, I don't know why that is though *shrugs* I find some of them quite 'broken', and Shepard needs that like a hole in the head...............
I think that your comparison (though I don't see Kaidan as neurotic really) between Jacob and Kaidan is pretty accurate, both of them are men, men who have had things happen and dealt and moved on and are not dwelling on things.
One of things that pleasantly surprised me was that once the relationship is establishing itself Jacob does kind of take charge although I could do with less of the brush off lines that sound like my Shep is needy. Would have preferred if they had used something similar to Kaidan's 'I've wasted too much of
your time', which doesn't make me feel like a desperate loser, lol! But I think after main game, he is the most passionate of the ME2 LI's and he always has time for Shepard, they should stop giving the option for Shep to end it every time they speak though <_<
Anyway, I agree and I think the nice guy similarity is why I liked Jacob after trying the romance. If it is any consolation to Jacob fans, Kaidan has had a lot of unnecessary hate for a long time, but more and more people are appreciating him now, I think Jacob may be a slow burner like Kaidan

I also think they both suffer from male gamer envy.................... (obviously not all, just the ones who think if you care you aren't a 'man')
