I finished the game and can confirm that Kasumi's dialogue is a glitch. After the suicide mission she mentions Shepard and Jacob getting together and how Shepard should hold onto him, then goes straight back to the come hither comic and won't say anything else about anyone else ¬_¬
Anyway, it was a lot nicer than I thought it would be, he is pretty sweet (still a Kaidan gal, but I appreciate Jacob more now)
I did like him at the beginning of my very first play through but Hale's VA'ing gave me the wiggins and I abandoned any ideas there........ I like his character as a team mate and a buddy anyway because he is honourable :-)
I also found a new respect for his skills, for the first time I took him out and about everywhere after Freedom's progress and my sentinel + Jacob and Tali ripped through the hordes on the derelict reaper easily.
You are a patient and dedicated group to put up with all the ribbing Jacob gets on BSN (some of it not very nice.... I have made a few jokes myself) Anyway, I wanted to share my experience with you all and thanks to JRCH for the quick reply to my query.
If it is OK with you I might pop in occasionally to say Hi........ :-)
ETA - Over at KAST we have a 'top of the page Kaidan', rule, not sure if you have one here, but in case you do
Image IPB
Don't know who did this, was someone on here? If so, well done, great pic.
You all have a great weekend!

Thanks for your support Jenova65! [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wizard.png[/smilie] I'm always happy to see more people who looked past "But the Priiize" and Hale's dialogue and appriciate Jacob for who he truly is ^_^

Thanks, lazuli. Seems like an unnatural pose, though, given the mission and positioning of Grunt and Shepard. Maybe what I thought blurred together with an early image of Jacob wearing that bland grey armor.

Always good to see people join in the thread to show their new-found appreciation for the character after giving him a chance and stomaching some of the iffiness of Hale's voice direction. I can't say I understand what the "top of the page Kaidan rule" is though...

They post a picture of Kaidan at the top of each page.  I would guess that there is a lot more fanart of Kaidan than there is of Jacob.  To say nothing of their different fanbases, Kaidan has been around longer than Jacob.

Ah, sorry about that, silly assumption on my part.....................
It is as Lazuli states, when we have a top of page comment we go off and find a Kaidan pic to greet everyone :)
I think Jacob is what can be considered a slow burner perhaps, Kaidan has (and still does to a degree) suffered from not being appealing to guy gamers who at the mention of his name go into spasms of ''Kaidan sux , lol'', but more and more people realise he is a well rounded character and party member and I think Jacob will slowly pick more appreciation, I know I will be faster to defend him in future...... :) I think Jacob's problem is transference............ We hear Hale doing  that  voice and project the revulsion onto Jacob who did nothing to ask for 'strumpet Shepard', in fact is fairly oblivious and innocent at first :innocent:
@gash,  thanks for the welcome :)

:) I am not too big to ever admit I was wrong. And as I said I will defend him faster in future. Will most likely have a couple of 'single', Shepard's playthroughs just for him.

i've always liked jacob, people says he's boring, but that's because he's not always crying on your shoulder like thane, or running around like a turian batman to fight crime. he's definitely a professional soldier who doesn't bring personal life into the workplace. well i guess that does technically make him more boring, but it's nice to have a character who is practically just one of the guys. it would be kinda retarded if all 3 LI's were some mentally unbalanced cowboy whose personal lives were just a train wreck of epic proportions.

his VA does a good job with him, too.

Yeah Jacob has one of the better voice actors in the game. It seems that Jacob is finally getting his due.

This is true. I'm actually surprised that he doesn't get so much recogniton for his voice acting. He did a great job.

Playing the game again really made me appreciate his acting during Jacob's loyalty mission. The mission itself is pretty underrated. At first I wanted "Paragon Interrupt" option for preventing Jacob from killing his dad. The more I thought about it though, it really wouldn't have fit Jacob's character. If anything, he's along with Samara, the most emotionally stable person on the ship. And honestly, I like his business before pleasure attitude.

It definitely would have been nice if there was more party chat like in Dragon Age, because Jacob is very much the straight man.

Bear with me, slightly feverish and sleep deprived.

I think one of the reasons he's a bit unpopuler is because everyone else (and this isn't a ME2 phenomom, it's more just something games do in general, especially RPG's) wants/needs something from you. Jacob doesn't (Kaidan too can be a bit neurotic imo, but once again, like Jacob, he's got baggage but it's been dealt with) want or need anything from you though. Argueably femshep's pursuit is about Shep needing him. (I think of Chakwas' statement when you drink with her: 'Shepard. Our immovable rock.')

So I suppose I'm saying in a rather roundabout way Jacob's good for a male/friendshep because he's a definate bro, but the idea that your Big Empowered Woman femshep might need someone to lean on (or worse, have to pursue the man!) might be part of the reason people dislike him. Sure, Jacob's a bit like Kaidan, but credit where it's due, Kaidan's a bit faster on the uptake than Jacob if you're trying to get in his trousers.

Ah, gender double standards at their finest. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie] (gets pumelled) :P

Tbh, I am fed up of being the pursuer in games............ I like a man who knows what he wants ;)
I think BioWare fulfil their own fantasies with these aggressive females ;)
I agree that it seems if a person is well adjusted and we don't have to 'fix', them they are less likely to be popular, I don't know why that is though *shrugs* I find some of them quite 'broken', and Shepard needs that like a hole in the head...............
I think that your comparison (though I don't see Kaidan as neurotic really) between Jacob and Kaidan is pretty accurate, both of them are men, men who have had things happen and dealt and moved on and are not dwelling on things.
One of things that pleasantly surprised me was that once the relationship is establishing itself Jacob does kind of take charge although I could do with less of the brush off lines that sound like my Shep is needy. Would have preferred if they had used something similar to Kaidan's 'I've wasted too much of your time', which doesn't make me feel like a desperate loser, lol! But I think after main game, he is the most passionate of the ME2 LI's and he always has time for Shepard, they should stop giving the option for Shep to end it every time they speak though <_<
Anyway, I agree and I think the nice guy similarity is why I liked Jacob after trying the romance. If it is any consolation to Jacob fans, Kaidan has had a lot of unnecessary hate for a long time, but more and more people are appreciating him now, I think Jacob may be a slow burner like Kaidan :) I also think they both suffer from male gamer envy.................... (obviously not all, just the ones who think if you care you aren't a 'man')

Oh Kaidan's not neurotic-he just has moments where he does a bloody good impression of it that's all.

I'm totally going to replay my engineer for the hell of it (so much fun, even mre than vanguard imo) and I'll try Jacob. Got to say though the playthrough has potential for being very interesting. The engineer was my 'Let's give Kaidan a try' run through ME1 so I'm wondering about not editing the 'romanced kaidan' flag to see what happens in ME3. I can see Jack/Tali and even Garrus being antsy about the idea Shepard left someone in the dust (after all, what's to stop it happening to them?) but I can't see how Jacob would react. Assuming he's been with you alot, especially Horizon, he might decide that Shep felt they'd been dumped, but he might not. He seems very suspicious/slow to open up so I can imagine him clamping shut hard. Then again, he might see that's what Shepard did after Horizon. (shrug)

The majority of it stems from his romance. I honestly find it unfortunate since most of the negatives is actually the result of Hale's voice acting, not the dialogue itself. A lot of the other stuff is just minor nitpicking, ie "He doesn't tell me to go away nice enough."

Jacob comes across as a strict Paragon; asks if it was necessary to scare the bleeding Blue Sun on Korlus, criticize Shepard if they shove the merc through the window during Thane's recruitment ("So, when do we read him his rights?"). That might bug people who have their Shepard's as Renegades or generally don't like their Shep being griped at for their decisions.

actualy any character that people decide to dislike will be declared a whiner regadless of whether they agree or disagree with the player, whether they actualy whine or just answer your questions truthfuly, etc .etc.

I have no logical explanation of why people dislike some characters as much as they do, but every single major character in a game has a hater base in adition to their fan base.

I like Jacob.  he's not my favorite character in ME, but I like him.  contrary to what some like to believe and while sharing some of the core values with Kaidan, he has a very distinct personality. meh, its hater's loss really.

Lol, well he doesn't, it makes you feel like a right dsperate loser, lol being shooed away! ;) But that is poor writing...... And is not a big enough reason do dislike the character as a whole 'person'.
And his romance is good, really good (apart from...... well you know.....) it is Hale that is to blame imo, she is what put me off trying it for a long time. Which was a shame, because when I saw the trailers I thought he looked promising, but then she spoke............... And well, I already expressed my feelings on that earlier.
Anyway, he is a genuinely decent guy (like Kaidan, who has also suffered a fair bit of no good reason hate) and I like him :) Hence my popping in to show my support recently :D I will keep a single Shepard to show Jacob some love as I like that HE cares, it isn't all me me me, with Jacob!
Hale should get a smacked wrist for the voice ;)
