About Garrus- I can tell you that I like him too, but it's mostly because of his voice, which is rich and deep. Jacob also has a very deep voice, however. One of the things I liked about him when he first came onscreen in my first playthrough was how his voice and demeanor made you feel safe as though he would be there for you and could be trusted. I got a positive vibe from him right away. And so right off the bat I was excited to see where that could go.
I know what you're talking about. Even in ME1, when Garrus didn't have much of a sense of humor, he was the guy I felt an automatic bond with. In this sense, Garrus is like my college buddy and Jacob is definitely my best friend at the office.
And really, in all honesty, Jacob reminded me of a more "Proactive" version of Garrus from ME1. Like Garrus, Jacob was disillusioned with how his previous employer worked, but instead of grudgingly working through it like Garrus did, Jacob decided to jump ship to group who actually did something. This is why I'm really invested in Jacob returning in the third game. Dude has a potential when it comes to character development. Unlike the other love interests (save for Kaidan and Ashley ironically) he doesn't seem emotionally dependant on Shep either.
