The only way for me to get that conversation was to burn up all the romance dialogue with Garrus, which shut down all the pickups for the other LIs.  Otherwise, the game assumes you still want to flirt.  Jacob was saved by grace of conversation order.

Don't recall having that convo with him as a DudeShep, either, but it's easy to miss.

I've always had that conversation with him and ALWAYS play female Shepard *shrugs* I really liked Jacob as a friend in ME2 which is what he mostly is to my Kaidan-faithful Shepards..... 
I do really like the romance too (with a single non-romanced Shep) it is lovely and there feels like a genuine passion there also I do speak up in his favour around the forums since doing the romance. I also don't hide my activity posting in here anymore   (JK) 
I only got the PS3 mag yesterday (couldn't seem to find it in the supermarkets) and was quite disgruntled about the way wrote about a few characters in that Squadmate page <_< Didn't like that they say Kaidan is nicer than Ashley but no boobs... Insult to both of them (Ash is nice and Kaidan isn't just an afterthought) I really didn't like that they said Jacob wouldn't be in 3 because he is so unpopular either. It just felt like they were pandering to a demographic that I am not part of..... Will stick to GamesMaster in future <_< 
I assume we are not giving that part of the article any credence.....? A few things annoyed me but I was really keen to see actual screenshots not just internet scans of the GI article. It seems to be the only mag in the UK currently  to have the article and pics too........ 
Anyway, I really hope they messed up, it would be rotten luck if Jacob wasn't around in 3 and also interesting btw that they seem to think all the female LI's are going to be around but not all the male LI's seems a bit 'off' (which makes me think they messed up or BioWare DOES hate female gamers...........< and I refuse to accept the second option)

I don't put much stock in that page.  Who says he's the least popular character?  Did Bioware release more of their gameplay statistics?  I mean, Jacob isn't prom king of these forums or anything.  But how does the average player feel about him?

If anything can save Jacob's place in ME3, it's his status as a romantic interest.

Doesn't that just apply to horror movies and war films?  Personally I thought Jacob was a nice tall drink of water at first glance and wondered how long it would be before my Shep could get wrapped up in those arms.

Yeah I agree, that is why I said I assumed we aren't giving it credence, Kaidan has had the same kind of treatment that Jacob gets and we have weathered everything thrown at us. I think the Jacob fans are quite capable of the same kind of stubborn devotion  
I think I would only worry if BioWare themselves were to say he isn't going to be around. I am not really giving much thought to PSM3's half-hearted and male biased conjecture

I like Jacob with a shotgun, but I don't see why he couldn't lose that regrettable pistol.  I'm hoping that with ME3's weapon modding system we can create a decent shotgun for the squadmates, like the GPS.  With the Firepower Pack, Jacob goes from being kind of a pantywaist on Insanity to a total monster.

I'd say that's a possibility.  I'm getting the impression that squadmate builds will be a bit more fleshed out than in ME2, so maybe Jacob will get a tech power of some sort.
