Trying to find ways to beat Cerberus since he should know quite a lot about them since he worked with them before? Hmmm... I'm thinking something with Cerberus since they will be bad guys in ME3 unless I completely misheard on the E3 info.

Pisses me off that one squad mate I like is coming back and I'd rather work for Cerberus than the Alliance. Damn popularity contest.
Even though ME3 is probably going to be one the most epic games ever, it seems like Bioware isn't giving the player that much choice when it comes to choosing how to fight the Reapers in the end, and who we want to have fighting at our side at the end. No offense to Tali and Garrus fans (I like both of them) but I would rather fight the Reapers with a stable-minded and balanced person covering my back than people who are psychologically scarred (Garrus) and prone to protecting their people as opposed to trying to protect the rest of the galaxy (Tali).

I'm confident since Cerberus' sudden turn to ally with the Reapers, Jacob will cut his ties with them. Jacob will no doubt be doing something proactive against the invasion, firearm in hand, killing husks and doing his damn best to help people. Whether it be on earth or on a colony; maybe we'll see him on Mars? It would be interesting to see whether or not he signs back up with the Alliance or continues as a sort of "merc".
Now that we know he won't be a permanent squad member, I'm rooting for a temporary arrangement.

I seriously doubt they would be so cheap as to kill off one of their main NPCs just because he wasn't as popular as the other characters. Clearly he has a following, small but it exists. I'm not totally convinced he's as reviled outside these forums as he is here.
Pressley wasn't a squaddie or a LI, and had about 3 lines. I also certainly hope they wouldn't discredit their stance that all LI are of equal value.
I don't expect to see him as a squaddie, but I do expect them to wrap up his story arc nicely, especially for those that have him as a LI. One, there's the possibility that there's going to be conflict with an ME1 LI.

hi, i don't think i've ever posted here, but i just had to chime in and say that i highly doubt the writers would do such a thing. (though i'll warn you right up front, i'm quite an optimist when it comes to questions of what will be in ME3)
still, i've gotten the distinct impression that while the writers do take fan input into consideration, they've had their own ideas and plans for the story from the get-go and will follow that first and foremost.
i mean, with the virmire survivor (Ash/Kaidan), there are people who loved them from the first game, people who hated them, then come horizon, the trenches got more deeply drawn. it seems to me that given recent revelations, the plan was always to bring them back, probably not exactly how the love'em folks want, but certainly not to kill off like the haters do.
anyhow, my thought is, if they spent as much time making the characters as they did (and jacob was a pretty central character), they'll be there, ready to kick a** again. after all, if all they did was listen to polls from these forums, we'd have had 5 Tali Date DLCs and nothing else after ME2 came out. i think the evidence points to the writers having their own plans.

Personally I hope they give him some more substantial armor. It doesn't have to be super heavy plate or anything, just not vacuum sealed to his butt.

The only way Jacob is getting killed off is if there is a VS-like scenario where whoever Shepard's LI (Liara, Ashley, Garrus, etc.) bites the dust.
