Disagree. All of the loyalty missions aside from Jacob had character development. We learned new things and we watched the characters grow. With Jacob we didn't really. I like Jacob, I just wish they had spent more time with him character wise.CC-Tron wrote...

Yeah we disagree. I didn't see much character growth at all in the game as a whole. What was there was adequate but not exactly what I'd call much depth.

I have a new question: If you were Bioware how would you make Jacob (personality, skillset, loyalty mission, dialogue)?
For one, I would have made him talk more bout his past. Talk about WHAT happen at Edan-prime, talk about some of the stuff he did in the corairs. Jacob doe not talk about that, thats what makes him sadly borning. As for his skill-set. Give him a AR and a shotgun. Then give him pull and inferno ammo. That would balance him out very well.

The problem with Jacob in combat is his skillset just sucks. Everyone who has a shotgun has a better skillset. Jack is so plain dangeorus, not because of her shotgun, but because of her biotics. Tali again has her drone which can be used for crowd control, again this makes her very dangerous. Then we have Grunt who IMHO is way overpowered in the game. He has AR, shotgun, inferno ammo, that blast move plus he has recharging health, that krogan charge and his health can be upgraded.
Jacob's skillset just pales in comparsion.

I remember when I was gonig into ME2, I was so looking forward to going to Tunchanka to see Wrex. I was disapointed he could not be on the team but he had a fantastic cameo and the best reason why he can't join you. I hope his mission turns out well, the Krogan need a man like Wrex.

Maybe because he was the protagonist ME galaxy so a good chunk of his past is already out there in the ME universe. As for his skill set, he has all those skills except for the AR. He isn't bad with the evicirator shotty. Hell of a lot more accurate at distance with it than I am. I generally think he is an excellent squaddie with his squad incendiary and his pull. The only dissapointing thing is his loyalty bonus makes him weaker because he keeps turning on that barrier with it's long cooldown, when I really need his pull.

Again, Galaxy just explains why he decided to join Cerberus and how he met Miri. There was no info on anything of his past. He also had warp, overload and a AR. These where all taken ourt of ME2. Again, why do I need Jacob when I have Grunt? Grunt can do team inferno ammo and he is alot and better then Jacob in combat. Hell once I get Zaeed Jacob just sits on the ship. The only characters I use the most are Miri, Garrus, Samara, Jack, Grunt, Thane, Kasumi and Legion.

Jack vs Jacob. Both have pull but jacob has squad incediary. Thats better than shockwave and squad warp ammo against organics. Jacob is also has better survivability than Jack.
Tali vs Jacob. Tali is better against synthetics but against organics I prefer Jacob because his squad incediary and pull are more useful than a 30 second cooldown combat drone and AI hacking.
Jacob vs Grunt: Grunt is more durable and has concussive shot. Problem is if you give him squad incendiary you will either not max out his passive, concussive shot or his fortification. Jacob you can max pull incendiary and his passive,. Pull is also superior to concussive shot if you have warp or bring miranda./Thane along.

I never waste time with squad incendiary. Full power inferno ammo is the way to go. It has a blast effect so nearby enemies also catch fire.

Tali and Jack make for awful shotgun squadmates. For Tali, I have to time her combat drone just right in order for her to get close enough to her target before being gunned down. I prefer her in a support role. Jack... she's like Thane in my mind -- they should be quite lethal but the game mechanics hinder them greatly. Jack should have barrier as an option. Without any ability to distract or protect, she's too vulnerable to be going up close with a shotgun.

I don't know about you guys but Heavy Barrier alone makes Jacob for me. That and inferno ammo in the eviscerator. I'd gladly trade a skill of each of the other squad members to give them a barrier of some sort. The other squad mates aside from Grunt or Legion are in trouble after just a few shots. The assault rifle doesn't have the same impact of a eviscerator shot gun blast with inferno ammo. I usually switch Grunt to enviscerator instead of AR. Pull is great and it enhances other skills like warp and concussive shot which would other wise be weak.

Depends on the class I play. If I play any class other than a vanguard, or soldier, I'll take squad incendiary because against organics, that ammo owns. Otherwise I give him inferno, and he's pretty deadly with it.

Those are just game balance issues. Why don't your squadmates have the cooldown and powers sheppard has? He was the protagonist so he's gonna be a little overpowered than an NPC.
Why Jacob over Grunt? Because on insanity Grunt doesn't survive much better than Jacob does. A little better but not by much. Because I can get Pull field, Squad incendiary and max passive out of Jacob, but if I max grunt's incendiary I can't max out 2 out of his 4 skills. In a way that nerfs grunt. I'd rather max out his concussive shot, fortification and his passive, Pull lets you combo with you or your squadmates by using warp, throw or conssive shot. Concussive shot doesn't.
Grunt as a squadmate are more for people who don't like to manage their squad's powers much.
As for his history on eden prime. He does talk about it a little. I know at least once on horizon and once if you view the alter on the Reaper IFF mission.

Jacob is so intent on not talking about his past, it's hard to find what you can talk about with him. If you ask about the mission, he just indicates whether or not he thinks everyone is ready. If you ask about his dad, he says he doesn't want to talk about it. Okay, what do you want to talk about, Jacob? The priiize?
Oh dammit, we almost went four pages without someone saying that...

I think his history on Eden Prime was untapped potential. I don't know if I somehow missed the conversation points up until then, but I didn't even know Jacob was supposed to have been on Eden Prime until he mentions it while examining the husks on Horizon. Then Shepard asks Jacob if he's okay when we see the dragon's teeth on the Derelict Reaper. But as far as I know, there's no "you were on Eden Prime, huh" moments between the two. Seems kind of an important connection between the two to just shove into background dialogue, especially if Shepard is going to show some concern about it.

If you're femshep, he's the only one other than Dr. Chakwas who even bothers to ask how are you doing. Other than that, he needs liquor at a bar to open himself up, and I'm down with that.

Before the Eviscerator, I wasn't so keen on Jacob over Grunt, but now they both play their roles well enough. If I'm taking Miranda or Thane, I'll choose Jacob just to help set up the warp explosions.

My stance on Jacob compared to other shotgun characters.
Jack's shockwave sucks on the harder difficulties, I only play hardcore and insanity, so this power of Jack's is useless to me. Pull is nice but Jacob has pull as well, and he doesn't have to invest three points in a useless ass power to unlock pull because he starts with it. Both Jack and Jacob have pretty damn good ammo powers, warp and inferno ammo are both excellent, however I prefer Inferno ammo on squad mates (they have a tendency to shoot less then me, so straight up damage increase isn't as useful as setting people on fire in my opinion).
I love Tali's drone (explosive drone FTW), energy drain is good too, and her AI hacking is very nice on geth levels, but sorry guys she's fragile and a fragile character with a shotgun isn't a recipe for success. As Pacifen said, Tali makes for a great support character, not a good shotgun shock troop.
Grunt is better than Jacob, I know blasphemy, but the guy has three upgrades with the sole purpose of making Grunt better, two health upgrades and the claymore shotgun. I don't care if Pull is better than concussive shot, Grunt already has more health then he knows what to do with, factor in his passive health boast and his two upgrades you have the best Shock Troop in the game by far. Now if only Grunt actually had a character of his own instead of being a lame Wrex knock off Oohhhhh!
On a side note, the Eviserator Shotgun is great for Grunt/Jacob, those two do some serious damage with that thing and they have the endurance to get close enough to use it, don't really need the assult rifle for those two in my opinion, however the assult rifle replacing the pistol for Jacob just makes more sense so they should do it anyways even if Jacob doesn't really need it.
