Ok, so I've finished editing a level and want to make an area from it.
The wiki tutorial says to choose a layout from 'AreaLayout', but these only include areas from the game, not to mention it's only showing *.arl files and not *.lvl files. Also, it won't allow you to change the directory from 'All Game Resources' when choosing a layout. How exactly do I do this?
I've looked and looked and can't seem to find a tutorial on this. The wiki tutorials aren't all that great really, as they leave out a lot of details and there's a number of inaccuracies between what they say and show and how the toolset actually looks and functions (for example, the tutorial for adding a new material for terrain mesh textures).

You're in the same boat as me. If I get an answer to my topic I'll let you know.

Oh, didn't see any other topics for it. Browsed for some and also used the search, but came up with nothing.

Yes you have to "convert" your level (.lvl) into an area layout. You can do this by clicking the purple + symbol in the Toolbar of the Level Editor. Once you do that and give it a name you'll have to do click on Do All Local Posts. Then your area layout will appear as an option when you create a new area.
Oh and once u get that working I'll respond the next question you'll ask, which will be, why is there no water in my area once I load it in game and why are all the textures black. There's a lightmap issue going on it seems. I can't solve it, and nobody is responding to my threads so, I don't know

Thanks for the response, I'll try your .lvl to layout conversion thing when I get home from work.

No problem. Let me know if you have any questions. Those of us doing this are gonna have to stick together it seems. And if u solve the lightmap issues, lemme know. Thanks

Did you try defining area after you clicked in the green + sign? The same place you name the area layout, you must define the area which allows you to drag a green box around which parts of the level you want playable. I am yet unsure what the red and yellow boxes beyond the green do just yet, but after you do that, you may notice some improvements to your lighting situation.

- The yellow box is the high level of detail, non-playable border (referred to as the Border).
- The red box is is the low level of detail, non-playable border (referred to as the Vista Border).

Are you talking about getting your .lvl to appear when you click the Area Layout property of an Area?KalDurenik wrote...

To get your .lvl into that list you have to export it. Press the Do All Local Posts button then read the log if it doesn't work.

You have to 'export' your module, not just save it.

Export with Dependencies, I believe. Works for me.
Realize KalDurenik that with the LM bugs your world will be black (or devoid of shadows if you used an ambient baked light), and there won't be any water, if you tried to place a water plane.
