I'm trying to get to 60 to get the max import bonus to ME 2.  Dont you think they went overboard asking 200k to go from 59 to 60 when the total to get to 59 is around 600k.....  i mean do you need a full playthrough just to go from 59 to 60 ?  I'm on my 3rd one and i'm 57, would i be able to get to 60 on this playthrough ?

You can go from 57 to 60 in one play through. If you're reasonably complete, on your first pass with a character you'll get to 57. (Barring your very first time through the game.) If you're on the pc, and it bothers you use the console, or try the me save site.

If you are on the 360 there is no real choice aside from multiple play throughs. So relax and enjoy a fine game.

crap that's a lot. I hate to be thorough twice playing one character. is it possible to hit 60 from 40, 50 in one playthrough?

Oh my god. I got to level 50 in one playthrough (Normal), started on a new playthrough for Hardcore, skipped all the unnecessary missions just to get to Insanity (and Ally achievements). I was level 52 by the time I finished Hardcore, and I'm level 58 (20,000 points away from 59) and I just finished Feros! I don't know how to get more experience, doing UNC and Citadel side missions. I also screwed up a mission, the one with the preaching Hanar and I can't complete that :( I really hope I can get to level 60 before I finish the game. I remember geth dropships dropped infinite geths so I might resort to that later on...

I agree. The gap from 59 to 60 is a bit much.

Crap. Any way to "grind" for experience? I'm doing all the assignments before going to Virmire...but I don't think it's going to be enough.

Well you don't need to kill everyone with the Mako, if you catch what I mean :)

Still haven't completed the playthrough while not killing anyone with Mako so I may be wrong.

I killed most enemies out of the mako, but I did miss out on some heavy experience due to Insanity difficulty and being demolished by several Armatures (so I had to use the Mako). No Sniper rifles either :/

Yeah I know what it's like, what I try to do is shoot armatures till they have no shields and low health and then take them down on foot. Seems to work in this way.(Kind of cheap but hey.....)

The only way to get enough experience involves either exploiting a reusable crate or the Therum exploit. In both cases it would be faster to just do another play through.

As for armatures, colossi and the like outside of the Mako, lift, bastion stasis, and sabotage are all ways of shutting them down. Master Throw will also knock them down for a few seconds. AI hacking can turn them on their buddies at least part of the time (not colossi). Often I find it faster at high levels to kill them on foot.

I have gotten only one of my characters to level 60. It took me 3 playthroughs, although I am well aware that people are doing it in 2. The reason it took me 3 is because I used the Mako as much as I could the first 2 times through and didn't have any of the DLC yet. That said, I would rather shoot myself in the foot than take an already leveled Shepard through the game again.

I think I was level 57 at the end of my second playthrough, and I hit level 60 on like the very last mission if I remember correctly. Major things: get the DLC, play on Insanity, kill everything on foot.

here we will make you play the game 2/3 times and it will seem like alot of content .... i think it was cheap imo

I do this too, but it doesn't always work. For example, you might have 2 Armatures shooting you, and then you have the grunts just running around them. So if you keep shooting until you lower the Armatures health, you may accidentally kill the grunts. You could either make a suicide run by ramming them and scattering them, but you risk losing a lot of vehicle health. Sometimes I would jump out of the Mako, take care of the little guys while incapacitating the armatures/colossi with Biotics before jumping in the vehicle to weaken them. Really annoying and I've lost thousands of exp and time (died a lot) trying to kill enemies on foot. Another thing...I KEEP FORGETTING TO KILL THRESHER MAWS ON FOOT :(

Actually this thread is about Mass Effect 1, not mass Effect 2. ;)

I'm trying to get 60 ijn 2 playthroughs. Last time I tried it I got to 53 in the first, then got to 59 in the second, but I was only about 20k away from 60, I think. This time I got to 54 in the first playthrough.

Don't forget to scan all those rocks on the planet too. Annoying. :P

If you're trying to max out your level gain, it's a good idea to use a checklist. A google search would turn up some.

Here's one.
