This freezing with my ps3 is getting annoying, would it be worth swapping for an xbox?

wait for the holiday season at the end of the year, microsoft will probably launch a new xbox 360 model, the "xbox slim" with NATAL. (maybe)

Xbox has good exclusives, a great online system and has a very comfortable controler, I say go for it.

Do you need/want your PS3 for Blu-Ray? Otherwise maybe. I know I use my 360 more often than my PS3.

Don't get the Xbox whatever you do.
It's cheap hardware will fail on you when you least expect it.

Yeah, it might fail on you after a year and you have to go without it for a couple of weeks. If this is a big deal for you, I don't know what to tell you.

Though of course it shouldn't be happening, it probably won't get in the way of your enjoyment much.

what games from the bioware series will i miss without ps3?

I only bought ps3 for FF, which have sucked since 10.

I only use console for games so bluray is no interest to me.

I can get a refund from my ps3 plus the 2 year warranty, so thats over 300.

Its just whether the xbox is better, ive had no end of issues with this ps3 and the freezing during doa is making it worse.

You won't get Mass Effect, or dare I say Jade Empire (unless things would change) if they ever choose to do another one.

The Xbox 360 has the infamous Red Rings of Death, however you may have better luck with a new one as I too find the freezing problem with the PS3 annoyign (I own both systems, 360 from 2006 red ringed once back in 2007).

The 360 has quite an extensive library of games, and the online structure is better even though it comes at a cost.

I clean my xbox once a month, keep it in a well ventilated place and it has lasted me two years. You just have to be more carefull with the 360 but you can prevent the rrod. The exclusives alone are worth it i say, but it's all up to you.

Now for something completely 'OMG NOT TEH PS3/360 IT SUX' and people who obviously haven't read the thread and realized that he already has a PS3.
How is your PS3 freezing? Does it seem like some kind of hardware failure? Because you can usually get it sent to Sony for a fixing if so. I personally prefer the PS3, as it's exclusives tend to appeal to me more, and every 360 exclusive (at least the ones I care about) has a habit of being ported onto the PC with extra bells and whistles, so I just wait until then to get it. But even then, most of the 360s exclusives don't appeal to me. Gears of War? Yawn. I'd take Uncharted over it any day (no skin off it's nose of course, it's a good game, just not my sort of game). Halo 3 is good, though again, it's being ported to the PC (and following Halo PC release structures, it'll come with a map editor and tidier, better graphics) and Fable 2 is a massive disappointment and kinda crappy.

But if you're looking at longevity with a 360, don't get your hopes up. The 360's hardware fails very, very frequently. I've had to buy three 360s since launch, because they kept dying on me.

But if you're looking at exclusives for the PS3 to get and you're at a loss, there's really no shortage. I'd recommend Uncharted 1 and 2, being flat-out one of the best games ever made (no seriously), Valkyria Chronicles if you don't hate JRPGs and love beautiful stories, Demon's Souls if you're hankering for Ye Olden Days of Contra level difficulty (a lot better than it sounds. I promise.), God of War III because it's well... God of War III, Heavy Rain (I personally didn't think it was mind-blowing, but a lot of people seem to, so you might wanna look into that), Killzone 2, as it's a very, very good FPS. InFAMOUS is pretty much awesome in every way, even if the moral choices are a little... 'save the kid drowning in the river or jump in, keep him under the water to drown him and mentally torture his grieving family while burning puppies to death'. Folklore is also an RPG I feel doesn't get talked about enough. It's really great. Metal Gear Solid 4 is right up there with the best games in history, though it's a little too much if you haven't played a previous MGS game and LittleBigPlanet is a really fun little platformer, and I've seen some rather impressive levels made in it. There's also the Resistance games, which I'll admit aren't my cup of tea, but they might be yours.

If you want to play Dragon Age, the PS3 is probably the crappiest version. It's not bad persay, and certainly playable, but it sort of goes like PC >>>>>>>>>>> Xbox > PS3. And I wouldn't bet on Ubisoft keeping Conviction on the 360 regardless. Ubisoft is a huge, money-grubbing company. It won't pass a port up.

And are you sure you can't run ME2 on your PC? The system requirements surprisingly isn't that high. Check with CanYouRunIt and find Mass Effect 2 on the scroll-bar to see if you meet the requirements.

Although to be honest I'd just go with getting a PC.

EDIT: Oh, the freezing doesn't look like a hardware problem because I just noticed you mentioned it was freezing while you played DA:O. That's not really the PS3's fault, it's just the glitchiness of the port coming through.

My pc outputs a avg 20 fps on me1 so its no to me2, imagine doing hardest difficulty in me1 with 20 fps.....nightmare but doable.

ps3 isnt at faul, I got a brand new one from shop for no charge because I thought it was, its the sony bugged firmware that causes doa to crash and I doubt they will fix it either.

Having both is great. If I had it my way I would be a PC gamer but sadly I have no job.

I love my 360 and I've never had a problem with it. I get random freezes on SW-FU but, I think it's my game and not my console, since I don't have any problems with my other games.

If you take care of a 360, it will take care of you for years. If you are the kind of person who doesn't clean the dust off of it, crams it in small enclosed spaces while on, drops it, leaves it running without playing it hours on end... it might die early on you. I think it is more user dependent than anything else.

Oh, and mine has lasted me at least 3 years now.

if a console needs that much tlc to survive then its poorly designed in all honesty, I can understand PC's needing maintenance but a console needing it to survive is just poor ill stick with ps3 or wait for the next xbox installment

The new 360s are fine. Don't worry about RRODs unless you have one from the first two years or so.

with all the ventilation the consoles need, they need a little care, occasional blast of compressed air to clean the intake/out take vents.

Got no idea if the PS3 slim has any vents?

For those you of claiming that the Xbox is guaranteed to fail, maybe you should do some research before you continue with your assumptions. Believe me, I know the thing is rather crappily built and Microshaft has it's share of problems.

But do some checking first please. The Jasper chipset (the newest Xbox version) has an average failure rate of about 4%. It's not perfect....but it's a whole lot better.

Edit: Correction to my post. It's the FIRST YEAR failure rates for the Jasper that are under 4%. Apologies.

My current 360 is doing well, so I guess I would suggest that. Though I gotta admit that the PS3 is looking mighty tempting lately (Demon's Souls, the upcoming 3D Dot Game Heroes, Valkyria Chronicles, stuff like that), so I dunno. See what games each system has that interest you the most. At this point in the "console war" they both have a pretty solid library.
