For those you of claiming that the Xbox is guaranteed to fail, maybe you should do some research before you continue with your assumptions. Believe me, I know the thing is rather crappily built and Microshaft has it's share of problems.

But do some checking first please. The Jasper chipset (the newest Xbox version) has an average failure rate of about 4%. It's not perfect....but it's a whole lot better.

Edit: Correction to my post. It's the FIRST YEAR failure rates for the Jasper that are under 4%. Apologies.

That's an old quote, I had to google, because i had recently read the survey, but the most recent survey as of April 14th, shows a 42% failure rate, that not one source, it's several stating the same figures One here another one and 55% needed repairs of somekind.

The poll question is about general lifetime 360 failures; the smaller chipsets and reworked heat sinks that fix the problem in the latest consoles aren't taken into account.

Also, the warranty Microsoft offers on the 360 is pretty damn good too. I've had three, two got the RRoD, and what had a disc drive failure, but they were all replaced for free within a couple of weeks. This latest one has been going strong for around a year now. It also depends on the games you prefer, but most of the time multi-platform games perform better on a 360.

I have an Xbox (actually, we have three) and a PC for gaming. We all think the Xbox is great in this household. Sent one back for RROD - MS fixed and sent back back within 10 days. At the time we could get 2 Xboxes for the price one PS3 - was a no brainer for us.

Those don't take into account the point in time in which the console was bought.  New chipsets and heatsinks in the 360 have reduced the incidence of hardware failure rather significantly.

I've had my sexbox for ~2-3 years. No rrod. Only failure was because some jackass mishandled my baby and jarred the focusing chip for the laser that reads the disk. Had that replaced for free very quickly. No problems since.

Oh, and Netflix instant download allowed me to watch Firefly for the first time ever. I think that's a plus, no?

I would actually have to agree with this. Preference plays it's part for sure, but the 360 has a good track record in terms of game line ups and platform support.

You need to dig deeper. If you read the details, those surveys specifically state that they DO NOT take into account when the hardware was purchased or what chipset the customer has. Those failure rates are for all Xboxes in total, not specifically the newest chipset. Old Xboxes (first gen) had something like a 75-80% failure rate over 2-3 years so that's what skewing the numbers. When you send it your old Xbox, they send you a refurb of the same chipset, not a new chipset.

I got my 360 at midnight the day it came out and I'm still not sick of it. I think they have better exclusives and online compared to the PS3.

Of course, I'm planning on a PS3 in the near-ish future.

Veteran Xbox user who has just bought a PS3, and I have to say that the PS3 is 100 times better, especially the online component.

lol once you include all of the cost for the peripherals needed for the Xbox its fairly even in terms of price IMO.

The PS3 doesn't need peripherals? All of my XBoxes came with controllers and HDD and even some free games.

As it happens, I am also considering a PS3 as well...I am just a tech ****, I guess

I'd say it comes down to wether you care for BluRay capabilities or not. I already have one in my PC, so I went with the 360 a couple of years ago.

I personally found the 360 exclusives to be better as well. Halo may be vapid and generic, but it can't be any worse than Killzone or Resistance.

I bought my 360 on ebay when they first came out, it was the 3rd wave of shipment to come, worked for over a year with no problems, but yes it did eventually get RRoD. instead of acting like a chicken with his head cut off and give up all hope, i used a little something called google, and found the solution. opened her up replaced two x clamps with machine screws and havent had a problem since.

:P noobs can suck it :)

Technically you also invalidated the warranty too.

And Killzone is better than Halo in my opinion (and I like Halo). I'd recommend trying it. As far as FPSs go, it's very good.

XBOX 360 rules....I have had mine since 2006, an original system, and I had the RROD once a couple of years ago. Sent it to Microsoft and within 10 days it was sent back better than ever! Still running old chip set with no problems.

XBOX definitely has a better line up for games (Halo, Gears of War, and lets not forget Mass Effect)

I already have a Blu-ray player, and that is the only reason I would consider a PS3.

I've had no problem with my PS3. There was no freezing or lockups while playing DA:O. Do you have all of the patches?

Does your PS3 freeze or lock up on other games?

That's arguable. It's up to the person whether or not the exclusives are better, there's no end all to be all. I prefer games like Uncharted 2, MGS4, Demon's Souls and Metal Gear Solid 4, myself.
And it's not exclusive if it's on the PC. Which it is. And better on.

My friend, I have both and I can honestly say the PS3 is better. Whatever problems you may have with your PS@, there is maybe twice as many problems with an xbox. Also, as far as exclusives go, PS3 wins by a long shot these past few years. Especially since you can get any xbox game on a PC.

Wow this is the most well-conducted thread on the two consoles that I have EVER seen.

Anyway, my Xbox has gotten the RROD twice now, but I'll admit I do not properly ventilate it, and I never clean the dust build up so I have brought it upon myself. I'd suggest calling Sony and just fixing the problem.

Paying another 2-3 hundred dollars seems a bit like a waste, unless money is hardly a concern for you. Personally, I've kept my Xbox (opposed to buying a better PC) because of money, and I don't want to worry about system requirements for new games. Also most of my friends primarily use the 360, so it keeps games interesting. I tend to get bored on my own.

I own both consoles but find I use the PS3 the most (because of the Blu-Ray player).
