I think I deserve a /winrar for my post. My condom protects against more viruses than you'd think.

AVG barely beats Microsoft Security Essentials in the poll, however I have used both programs and would recommend MSE over AVG.
I do not have the source, but tests show that MSE has a very low (if not the least) impact on you system in terms of performance, and it is IMHO comparable to the other top free (and paid) antivirus software.
I've noticed a performance increase coming from Live OneCare to Security Essentials. (Who's better to write an antivirus program to protect a Windows PC than Microsoft themselves?)

Those of you with MSE, can you tell me if it stores all the files on your "C" drive or can you install to an alternate location? Yeah, I know it's pathetic I'm out of space on C......

From looking at this guide, it appears that there is no option to install MSE to a specified directory. However it may be essential for the program and its components to be installed on the C drive...

*sidenote* (only if you are running VISTA or Windows 7)

If you are running out of space on your main partition/drive, you turn folders on your C drive into symbolic links, which gives you the freedom to move the folder anywhere you want to and windows/programs act like it is still there. For example, "Steam" (xbox live equivalent for pc basically) automatically downloads your games to your steam folder "C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/xxx/game". However, you can turn your "steamapps" folder into a symbolic link allowing you to store the folder elsewere.
EX: Steam thinks it is going to "C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/xxx/game"
but it is really going to                 C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps.ink -> D:/games/steamapps/"

More on this, and a video tutorial here.

Hope that helps :)

(edit: forgot the link :pinched:)

Nada. I got tired of trying out antivirus software after my first three attempts failed. Apparently very few are designed to work with XP64. Fortunately I rarely, if ever stray from familiar websites and minimize my chances at least a little. I do have a firewall though.

Avoid porn sites? Thats like telling someone to go from one end of a city to the other but to avoid all stop signs and/or traffic lights.. I'm sure it can be done, but who would want to go through the trouble? lol :D:innocent:

It's not impossible joey. At least if I don't need to google anything. Blind searches are always a crapshoot. Fortunately I rarely need to use search engines.

Sorry, forgot the "/sarcasm" in my post.. My bad :D.. Also, if you need to use search engines, but don't want to use an AV or just can't find a good one, there are always "safe search" modes that filter out porn and stuff from your search results..

@Shallow: I've been testing MSE and so far I haven't noticed anything spectacular about it. Works just as well as Avira on my system, but uses a bit more resources. Only thing it has over Avira so far is that it doesn't have that annoying window pop up asking me to get the retail version all the time, which is a big plus. Other than that, its nothing special.

Stick with pay per view, and magazines.  Porn websites are not safe.
