Palpatine. Did what the Sith before him couldn't!

Though it will be interesting to see what happens in TOR.

Darth Sidious.
His whole persona basically is influencing as opposed
to swinging light sabers.

Most powerful Sith:

In terms of raw power: Darth Nihilus.

The best warrior/general: Darth Revan

Best manipulator: Darth Sidious

The one who has the largest legacy: Darth Sidious

Most powerful Jedi.

In terms of raw power: Luke Skywalker

The best warrior/general: Perhaps Mace Windu for inventing the best lightsabre style.

The best teacher: Yoda

The one with the largest legacy: Either Yoda or Luke.

Darth Nihilus and his powers are canon as far as Lucas Arts is concerned.

In terms of who had the most influence:
Sith - Palpatine
Jedi - Luke Skywalker

In terms of who had the most awesome:
Jolee Bindo

Lol, I hope you mean his training of Luke. Yoda's extraordinary teaching skills and leadership in Episodes I - III pretty much single-handedly brought about the destruction of the Jedi order. Not that that was a bad thing, the Jedi order of that time was a stagnating, politically-motivated drain on the galaxy that needed to be wiped out.

my opinion, Darth Sidious .. because of his manipulating and persuading power.

but for truly judging between these siths (and jedis - this forum is about them too) we need to know them by biography. I'll put their biographies in the next days ... for better choosing between them

I'll go with Darth Revan because something about how Darth Sidious went about his rise to power and maintained power lacks style. As a Sith, I'd be insulted if someone said my elite skills showed Sidious's influence.

I'll go with Yoda being the most influential Jedi. Sure, he botched it during the prequels, but his teachings laid the foundation for the re-emergence of the Jedi Order. Um, and he had more style than Luke.

Yes, okay, I'm blinded by style.

How is this the first time Bane's name comes up.  Isn't he the one that came up with the rule of two and paved the way for The Empires rise to power?

As for Jedi I will cast my vote for Obi-Wan.  I mean the guy trained and was like a father figure to both Vader and Luke.  He was also a kick ass fighter who schooled Vader.

Revan made the Rule of Two, Bane as you said paved the way.

Palpatine. It's even confirmed that he was the most powerful Sith lord that ever lived. Vader had only 80% of his power according to Lucas. The strongest Jedi ever is probably Luke Skywalker. He did what Anakin couldn't. That deserves some real points. And considering how powerful he was in the EU taking place after the end of ROTJ, it certainly makes sense.

*SPOILER*

Question: is Darth Bane Palpatine? Or did Zannah really *mostly* defeat his body change? I don't know if there are comics continuing their story, but I was never entirely convinced that Darth Bane was destroyed in the novels.

In terms of control Luke might be up there, but both Kyp Durron and Anakin Solo had more raw force potential.

He brought balance to the Force. OK, sure, it was technically Anakin that through Palpatine in the real core but Luke didn't resort to raw power. Instead, he gave Vader a chance to redeem himself. If it weren't for that, they Battle of Endor may have been lost. While many Jedi and Sith had their strengths and weaknesses Luke had an aptitude in every aspect of the Force. No doubt considering his progress the Force, one could say that Luke had the best connection to the Force. I will say however, that Anakin could have been stronger than even Luke if he hadn't been doing some stupid things. And while I would like to go a bit further in this,  I will say that Lucas himself said that Luke was the most powerful Force user to exist. It may not mean that he'll always be the strongest but in the novels it was implied that he completely mastered the Light Side of the Force.

If I remember correctly, in one battle Luke enveloped himself completely in the Force and one of the most powerful Jedi on the order couldn't even SEE him move as he cut through an entire army. If that's not good enough for you, just remember what Lucas said.

As to saying who had the most influence? Well, that is something that could be argued about forever. Vader was influential. Sidious was influential. Bane was influential. Yoda was influential. They were all influential to some degree.

Oh, I didn't mean that I think Kyp or Anakin could actually win if they fought Luke, I know that Luke's greater control and understanding of the Force makes him a more dangerous oponent. I just meant that Kyp and Anakin have a larger Force reservoir that they could call on than Luke. Kyp could create a stronger force push, but Luke could direct it better and make it more damaging.

As far as what Lucas says, I don't give a sh*t. After creating the original trilogy, the only thing he's ever done for Star Wars is make it a joke. I know a lot of people may disagree with me, but what Lucas says isn't the ultimate source for canon. Hearing some of the stuff he said in the dvd special features for Episodes I - III --- I've never hated someone quite that much before.
