How come I can look goofy but I can't look sad ...

Of all the expressions for the portrait to leave out, sad is a strange one.

I too wish we had more expressions, but beggers can't be choosers. instead of some of those snarling ones I wish they would put more serious expressions

I've found a way to look sad. It takes a little bit of fooling around with the eyebrow height but it can be done. The lower you bring the eyebrow height down the "sadder" or "angrier" you look. You'll have to do a little tweaking to get it just right but it will work a little bit. Good luck.

yes, it is difficult to be sad... only if you make something to your character, like put the eyebrows down (almost always work), but I wish they've put more expressions in it too... It's difficult to have different chars with those similar looks. But at least they put the option, it's a good thing.

Oh I agree I wish there were more options for expressions, as well as hair options for male/female and beard options for the guys. I would love to be able to give one of my characters really long hair (maybe the mage) and have another one like the Rogue (ranger) have an extra long ponytail.
Just a couple more options would be nice but in the meantime it is nice knowing that you can do some tweaking and (spend hours) get most emotions displayed.

you are right
interesting enough, I'm satisfied with the hair length, because it doesn't look short, even though they aren't long ones, but I'd like more expressions and beard/hair options, especially hair, but I'm doing a lot of chars with the available ones (actually, I already did too much, probably won't play with half of them). Overall, I'm happy

I'll give the eyebrows down tip a try, thank you.

I agree with the other posters of this thread. I'm not dissatisfied with the current options, but at the same time, there were a few more I wanted & was dissapointed with the lack of:
1: The top disappointment, my city elf mage not getting access to the hair that the Elf Mage Poster Girl has!
(Though I was gonna go red-head!
) I suspect Chris Priestly's evil, hard at work!
2: Agree with needing more expressions available. Some suggestions from me are: Spirited, Stern, (think Professor McGonagall of the Harry Potter books) Sad, Blank, (for any wondering, I consider the expression at the left-most slider option a 'Neutral' face) Tomboy, (for female characters) Gruff, & finally, a completely to the bone sickly arrogant expression, the kinda face ya would look at & think 'Jerk Face'.
I was dissapointed that I wasn't able to give my elf mage a 'Spirited' face, I wanted her to have a 'never say die!' expression, like the kinda face that's strong-willed & doesn't know how to give up! An Adventurer's face!
(I would also wanna consider such a face for My Avatar/Representative character as well if it was implimented well!)
3: I'm a fan of cute tomboy hair on ladies, so don't mind having long hair unavailable, but will still vote for it anyway for others who want it, as an act of selflessness.
Though, cute tomboy hair that looks rugged & wild for both guys & gals would rock too! (a guy's hair example bein the hair on the main character of Shining Force 2 after he promotes to his advanced profession)
Without the red colored Elf Mage Poster Girl hair & the Spirited face available, my elf mage is unfinished & not ready to go in all respects.

Also not sure if i've got the face ready to go or not either. I wanted her to look pretty & cute, like she is in her late teens, & dunno if i've correctly captured it, or if this is even possible. If not, then young adult is ok too. I've demonstrated her a few times, & people act like she's completely invisible!
She's definitely not ready to go in all respects if she can't grab any good attention at all!
Edit: Fixed a post error I spotted on a reread that somehow escaped my proofreading. (I plead I was getting heavily distracted as I proofread.)

Funny, the default human male face seems pretty darn sad to me.

I managed to think of another expression that would be a good addition, the 'Gallant' expression!
For characters that dare to strive for the path of the Hero! (Or at least look like the kinda guy a lady would wanna talk to instead of avoid or walk away from.
)
